Metal Gear Solid V release date - 2/24/15? (From Reddit! Take w/ grain of salt.)

I really want to know what the hell it is that they keep talking about, in terms of what can only be done in video games. It was awesome to hear Paz's actress, but all so vague! I need to know what they're talking about!!

Not taking blame for this. Not allowing Kojima to take blame for this.
You guys did this to yourselves.

When we release the date, or lead up to releasing the date, it will not be in some secret, coy fashion. It will be loud, proud, and big enough to be heard for more than just the super fans.

My man. I was hyped, but it certainly wasn't konami or kojima who built it up and then gave us nothing. You guys are awesome, we want that date. BADLY.

Same here. From what he says it involves revisiting Camp Omega, Paz and the Ground Zeroes incident in some way during TPP but how does that connect at all with a concept Kojima is teasing that he put in the game because it's "something movies can't do, but games can do"?

Yup! Exactly. Maybe he's hinting at branching paths of the story? Agh. There are way too many possibilities! I think I am most excited for the first chapter of the game -- just to find out what the heck happens right after Ground Zeroes.

I find the mystery surrounding the hospital stuff and what happened around the accident really intriguing. We dont really know how Ocelot and Snake get from that whole incident in Cyprus to Mother Base/Afghanistan.

I feel like we really dont have the full context, just look at what was discovered regarding Skull Face's alleigance when you listened to the GZ tapes. It paints a different picture than the trailers/plot descriptions and that was just a small detail, but there's way more shrouded in secrecy in terms of that first chapter that i'd like to know. I'm sure there will be something shocking in that hospital sequence, maybe not quite Raiden-esque but shocking nonetheless.

I don't blame Kojima for anything, in fact I wish him and everyone at Konami and Kojima Productions the best Tora.

If I ever end up designing games I can only hope I have a 1/4 of the talent that Kojima possesses, him and Shinkawa and everyone that works at KJP are one of the reasons I even play video games and became interested in Game and Engine development.

We only have ourselves to blame in the end for overhyping everything.

I hope everything goes well for him in the following year, and thank you Tora for always being here and addressing the community.

If it's not another side-mission of dubious canonicality (is that a word?) it would have to be with a different player character, right? I doubt it's Chico sneaking in.

Right, exactly. Yeah. Nothing makes sense right now, so I am dying to get some answers!!

Totally. Yeah, Skull Face seems like he actually shares quite a bit with Big Boss. I think that he will be an
ally
when it's all said and done. They've both lost everything, so why not? You know?

In all seriousness: thank you, Tora.

January 22! I'm looking forward to it. I actually enjoyed the show a great deal last night -- it was really cool to see them giving away gifts. (Of course, the chicken cap and Paz reveals as well.) It'll be nice to get back to watching Kojima Station with no expectations.

I don't think a release date will be announced on Kojima Station. Huge news like that would be saved for a major show like E3, Gamescom, or Tokyo Game Show show show show.

Or wherever. Release date announcements aren't exclusive to big events, but I am certainly not expecting one here on the 22nd.

So when she comes back, is it safe to say then that
her vagina didn't explode?

You could say that she... shurfifed.

I've come to this realization (and so should everyone else), Kojima isn't as big of a troll as everyone think he is. He's tricked us a couple of times over the years and now he's built up this reputation for being a troll to the point where everyone is over analyzing everything he does. The release date will be announced in due time and david Hayter is not in the game.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The number Kojima pulled on the fan base with the MGS2 switcheroo has left deep, long lasting scars.

i'm definitely not on board with it at all. but this type of thing adds fuel to the VR and gray fox hypotheses. i'm sure there's more to it and i still think the gray fox idea is nonsense, but i'm really struggling to think of what it could be

Announcement at Microsoft's next conference it is then! Unless Sony offered to pay more.

Next thing what happens is, Microsoft gives all their money to Kojima to make TPP a xbox exclusive. No time exclusive unfortunately.

Wow...what a tremendous let-down.

It's not that Kojima is 100% to blame for this troll [if it was indeed intentional]; but our expectations are always loftier than the reality of what is revealed in circumstances like this. All the signs pointed to something great being unveiled and it ended up being a less than worthless announcement.

*sigh*

Why, if the release date is known to Konami will they not reveal it? They expect us to preorder the game - but they won't tell us when it comes out. I only preorder games when I know when they are coming out. I had Batman Arkham Knight reserved for it's initial October 2014 release date and then they delayed it into 2015. So, I cancelled my reservation for it. They then announced it would release June 2nd, 2015 - so I once again reserved a copy. That to me is the common sense of preordering a game.

I wonder when we will legitimately get some impressive new information and of course - the release date?

Hopefully not at E3 - this game surely will release before then, right?

You're all only setting yourself up for disappointment by hyping this up so much. We don't know what it is yet.

Told ya' so.

I can't find any articles about this, but wasn't Kojima extremely embarrassed when he had to delay MGS4 and promised it would never happen again? Something like that, like I remember him treating it like it was a great dishonour or something. It could be why he's so resistant to giving out a date for MGSV until it is absolutely close to completion.

What more could they honestly show us about the game at this point that wouldnt' be best left until we actually play it? We got a ton of info this year, including our first look at MGO, two 30 minute gameplay demonstrations and oodles of extra details such as the size of the world and how mother base works.

E3 is in June, my money is on a June release but there's every chance it won't be out until after E3.

At this point I'm looking forward mostly to the next story trailer... at least that has a good chance of coming in the next couple months or so. I mean, after the Nuclear trailer I was like "that's enough for me, I dont want any more spoilt" but after this agonizing wait and the thought it might not even be here until post-June i'm actually hungry for another. I love Kojima's trailers.

As long as they dont show any more Skull Face I'd be alright with that. If they did one about Ocelot, that would be sweet...but imo they've shown just the right amount of Skull Face so that we don't know exactly what's going on with him and Big Boss and the possibilities are endless. He's intriguing and interesting, and most definitely vile... so I want to go into the game with only knowing that.

There was a lot going on behind the scenes of MGS4 that we didn't hear about. There's a whole, long article about it somewhere, but if I recall correctly the whole dev cycle was actually completely fucked when Sony announced the actual PS3 specifications. A lot of content and features were cut, and a lot of assets had to be completely redone (which is why the early trailers look completely different than the final game). That's the short version, I'll try and find that article.

He's a fantastic editor, and he's only gotten better over the years. I don't think he needed to put his fucking name on the last one, though.

That said, I don't need another story trailer, unless it's just a recap of shit we already know. I really don't want to know if Fox or any of the characters that haven't been talked about are in the game until I have it in my hands. I always remember Ryan talking on the Report about how he wouldn't have shown the Rex/Ray fight in the trailers, and I tend to agree with that line of thinking.

This is such an agonizing wait! The subversive trolling by Kojima isn't helping matters either.

That shit is why Kojima is my hero.

This is the Kojima Production crew how the hell is the game not finished?!

That's... quite a small team on that picture. Its only about 100 people. They have made brand new engine by themselves, shipped opening chapter, and are currently making incredibly ambitious open world game for 5 platforms.

Well, remember that Kojima said that the game is nearing completion. "Nearing" is a very broad term, but I would think that the game should be around 85-90% complete by this point [going by the 60% complete statement by Kojima 3 months ago].

All these VO sessions are most likely just ADR. They don't seem to be using the full facial mo-cap for them and I would think that all of that is already finished - just a few tweaks and ADR to wrap things up.

March/April is my guess.

That shit is why Kojima is my hero.

That shit is why he annoys me at times ;)

Don't get me wrong - I love his work, as he is a brilliant game designer - but some of his viral marketing/design choices are just jaw-droppingly lame and ridiculous. He is also the literal personification of the Aesop's Fable "The Boy Who Cried Wolf".

I don't think it should be a problem. An efficient 100 team is far better than a messy 1000 team. So far everything seems to be going smoothly for MGSVPP
