Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

WOW, I'm surprised at how great this beta is. First time I've had this much fun in a Halo game since OG Xbox Halo 2. (constant team BRs on MCC just isn't the same :(

343 really has a shot at Bungie's crown.

Truth is the Midship remake. They'll be rolling out all 7 maps over the course of the 3 weeks

oh no i was meaning 'remix' the one thats midship remixed, not truth but regret?

As a COD fan who wanted to get into halo but didn't like the slow speed/shields(the thing that makes it halo and not CoD) this feels great. Players die a lot quicker, aim down sights lets me be more accurate(shooting from the hip has the SAME accuracy, thats what makes it Halo and not 'war shooter game') like in COD and the movement feels a lot like Advanced Warfare. Guns feel more like modern weapons instead of the lame Sci Fi stuff (yeah man, i totally wish they had m16s and not these other things, wheres the realism?) that halo used to have as well. Probably going to buy this now! (;_;)

Edit: Kill Cam is awesome too, part of the reason why I didn't like the past Halo games.

Everything you just said is exactly what I didn't like about this in the 30 mins I played earlier.

Be kind to him, gents.

As a Halo fan, CoD Ghosts was my favorite CoD.

For Extinction though. It was like Firefight on steroids.

I actually agree with you that Halo has been too slow for a while; however, I don't support all of these changes.

Kill Cam is the worst thing ever

You're 343's new favorite person.

Ditto on everything. I could never stand Halo MP due to no sprint, no ADS, ridiculously high TTK. But this beta has changed everything I hated about the series. It's pretty much CoD4, and leaps and bounds more fun than Advanced Warfare (which is a giant pile of shit).

You're exactly who they're trying to court.

Here's my initial quick impressions. FYI I've played every Halo a ton so I'm a big fan.

Yes -

1.The pistol is awesome. I didn't like it at first and then it clicked.
2.The sound design is very good. 343 is good at that.
3.I like clamber it adds a new dimension to exploring the map. This is my favorite big addition to the sandbox. I also like ground pound and thrusters. Actually all the spartan abilities are great except one.

No -
1.Sprint. Honestly I went in with an open mind and its still terrible. At the vest least make it have a limit. Unlimited sprint is the worst idea ever.
2. The delay on the sniper rifle. Why does this exist? Its really annoying defending yourself against a surprise enemy.
3. The AR is my least favorite thing about the entire game. Wtf is up with the range and its ability to kill so quickly?
4. Why change the rocket launcher to a much less iconic design? Why get rid of the classic triple beep sound effect for respawning? Who is making these decisions?
5. The bonuses that "smart scoping" or ADS as we'll all call it, have broken the balance of the game.

That actually sounds encouraging. I've always disliked Halo MP for the reasons you listed but now I may have to reconsider. Need an X1 first, though lol.

Halo is a slower game than CoD, so it's normally obvious what killed you. Adopting the weapon icon into the kill feed is a better solution than blocking the death cam, which is critical in calling out enemy movements after you've died and seeing whether they picked up your objective or power weapon.

There's no reason for the Kill Cam to be in the game. If you're unsure of how you died, that's usually why you died. .

lol, me too! I'm still having fun with it though.

Just having to get used to the aiming/movement is turning out to me much more difficult then I thought. It's very different then COD (now that I've played the demo, I do not understand the comparisons).

Wait, where is the new rocket launcher in these 2 levels?

No offense but I hate you people. Don't take that personally though.

Eh, nothing wrong with a franchise attracting new fans. Like I said, CoD Ghosts is the only CoD i have ever considered buying (although it was only one mode i was interested in), but apparently its fanbase hates the game.

If the developers prioritize the core fans and stick to what worked in the previous games, everybody wins. Halo needs to steal back the mindshare it lost over the last 5 years if the game's going to go anywhere again.

It's clear 343 is trying to pick up the CoD crowd, but they need to respect Halo in the process.

No it stops people camping.

People really hate what I said but I love it, 343 have designed an excellent game and evolved from where bungie was stuck in the past.

Radar is the reason people camp, and even then it's not widespread unless the map is terrible.

There are rarely more than 2 Snipers on a map, so you're not going to run into many of them perched in a corner that you can't find or flank. Anyone else can be grenaded and probably countered more easily now with Spartan Abilities.

Unless you have a different definition of camping. Halo is very much about power positions, and being unable to break or counter those set ups isn't going to change with a kill cam. It'll actually be more difficult.

Is anyone else having some serious problems? I'm getting server errors, random sign outs, and now I'm here people mic chat while I'm on the main menu.

Not those issues, but lots of it just sitting on finding players with no way to back out, requiring you to restart the the entire game.

Call if Duty is becoming less popular every year. And I honestly do not think 343 is respecting Halo at all. Most of the things that made Halo Halo are absent. I'm not talking about gameplay, we could discuss that though, but everything else.

Spartans used to be cool serious figures now they're just one of the bros.
All the sounds you associated with Halo are all gone and they were some of the most iconic sounds in gaming.
The visual aesthetic of pretty much everything in the entire series. Spartans look different, Covies do too.

It just feels like they honestly don't care about preserving anything Bungie did. I mean these are the same people who made Halo 4 clearly they think differently on the direction of the franchise. Only after everyone screamed out no and abandoned Halo 4 did they decide to listen.

Its just frustrating. And the absolute worst part about the whole thing is they won't just have an honest discussion about the game. They say things like "If you feel you have to smart scope we've broken the game" and its clear to everyone on day 1 you should be using smart scope every time in certain situations.

At the end of the day though the game is fun and that's all that matters so whatever.

Man once this game clicks and you grasp the controls it's phenomenal. But until that point it's nothing but aggro

Very much in the aggro phase. Slowly getting the hang of it though. Not sure my teammates have liked it very much, but I have been running around during matches to get more accustomed to the movement.

I still think it feels more like Halo than COD.

Sure the kill times have been reduced but they've also upped the general speed of the game (with sprint, boost and other traversal options) so it feels well balanced.
You can still get in intense Halo fire fights where you're strafing back and forth trying to land headshot or throwing out nades into a crowd of enemies and then mopping up the rest with the pistol.
You don't get that kind of gameplay in COD and it still feels uniquely 'Halo' to me.

Im having an issue where i find a full game, then the screen starts to.flicker, then i get kicked to the lobby, with a "took too long, servers timed out" message.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Yea I agree with you. A lot of the game's charm and personality has been replaced with generic beeps, bloops, clicks and clacks and it feels like they're homogenizing everything else. I thought Reach looked (artistically, not graphically) and sounded perfect, and I wish they had just enhanced that visual-aural package rather than redesign it. I could come to terms with this (well maybe less so with the different sounds...) so long as the game plays very well. Halo 5 has potential in that regard, so hopefully all of this "we're listening" hype pays off this time.

I'm not holding my breath though.

Heh, I know that feel. Feel the same way about CoD after the real IW died.

A lot of people upset because there is finally a halo made for people who like Call of Duty. Call of Duty is the better game at this point, it would be silly for them to ignore that.

Also it's so much better. Whenever I tried to play halo 3 or 4 that 3 shot gun people had would always dominate, now I can take them down mid-long range with the assault rifle and kill them quicker than they can kill me, like all automatic weapons should be able to do.

Kinda annoying that I have to quit out after every game because the matchmaking doesn't seem to like to pick up extra people. It's either 4v4 on the first shot or search forever.

I know of a perfect game for COD fans: COD. I wish I could say the same for Halo fans.
