Indie Games 2015 [January] Now Voting - Post 305!

Toma

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
Welcome! A new year has come and we start into a new round of checking out notoriously overlooked Indie Gems and talking about the Indies we loved the most.

Off to start on a more serious note: This thread series is running since March 2013 now, but we noticed a steep decline in post count and overall attention during the past year. Since these threads are a community effort and currently rest on the shoulders of just very few people, losing some more of those or the help of a few very dedicated Indie-Pals, might turn out to be very unhealthy for the future of these threads.

I love these threads! I love this community! I love the idea of playing games that barely anyone else gives any attention to! But for that we need to make sure these threads are actually able to exist throughout the coming year ;) If you have any idea on how to improve these threads, how to make posting here more appealing, let us know!

Quick reminder what we do in here:
1. We archive all the Indies so these releases are easily findable even in a few months. If there is an Indie Game you like, make a post here so we can feature it next month! If you post a thread about a certain Indie Game, also crosspost here since those smaller Indie threads are lost to the GAF page 2+.

2. We check out new games, talk about them and play gems that barely anyone else knows!

3. We recommend games for others!

4. We talk about anything Indie related: Want to talk about the color of Fez' head wear? Want to compare Braid to Limbo? Talk about the perceived impact of Indie Gaming on AAA game design? Or did you just play a random favourite Indie from 2008 and want to recommend it to others again?

5. Vote on the monthly games to make a recommendation list for next month!

We love reading all of this, so just drop by :)

On a more positive note: I am hugely looking forward to our Community - GOTY 2014 list! We are probably going to release it in about 2-3 weeks, and there are plenty of worthwhile games last year that you might not have had on your radar before!

Anyway! I promise not to post this in every Indie thread this year. Hope to read you guys in here!

| 3.5 Quick Note about Formatting |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you want to suggest a game that has recently released or that looks interesting, but hasnt released yet, please follow the following formatting structure so the post is picked up by Toma-Bot:
Released games:
TITLE - PRICE (PLAT)
LINK
DESCRIPTION TEXT
Not yet released games:
TITLE - PLAT
LINK
DESCRIPTION TEXT
Copy the appropriate content and add the proper information for the black writing. Please only include 1 link and 1 image. I tried making it a bit failsafe, so it should be able to deal with 2 links or images as well, but 1 is safer.
If the game is free, then put "Free" as the price, otherwise please use $ or € for the price. You can also include more than one game per post (like the Screenshot saturday posts), but please stick to the above format for every entry.
If someone posts a non-proper formatted post, I'd appreciate if you could repost the game with the same info in the proper format.
Hey! I assume you are new in this thread series and want to see what we were up to? Or you didnt have enough time to play through all of the games from the last month but still want to catch up with the best ones? Then this list is for YOU! These were the games we enjoyed the most in the previous thread, voted on by the community (More thorough descriptions and impressions in the previous thread, especially the last few pages with the voting):
http://store.steampowered.com/app/282070/
In This War of Mine, there are only murky grey choices. Your actions matter, not just at that moment when you're desperate enough to kill and steal from people who are just trying to survive, people trying to keep their group alive just like you are, but also over time as guilt and depression erodes your characters' will to endure. Overall, This War of Mine was just one hell of an engrossing, compelling, and atmospheric experience.
I noticed there are a few noteworthy, and relatively unknown, projects that deserve a shoutout here because I feel that they share a common interest with the people in this thread. I talked to the guy from Pixabyte and MetaVendetta and both are very enthusiastic about the things they love and figured you might appreciate the shoutout as well. If you enjoy anything here or want to give feedback, let these guys know via their websites or also here in this thread. If you appreciate something, let people know. A heads up can sometimes very valuable.
Someone answer me this: why am I not playing Galak-Z at the moment?
Mystery!
Because you are apparently posting on GAF :p
I remember looking at Galak-Z and then deciding not to play it, I think. Whats so good about it?
And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Hey guys,
I was wondering something. A few months ago, I saw a gif of a very simple and clean indie game and at that time it had yet to be released. It was a gif of a burning log fire out in a camp and the animation was amazing - you could see a character resting at the bonfire as well.
That's the only thing I know of that game - and I'm wondering what it's called and if it has been released yet? Great thread, thanks for all the effort put in it (and all the previous threads).
Well my question was more along the lines of when the hell is it coming out?
But having not played it, I'll say that the way they've sold it as a Spelunky inspired space shooter with physics, crazy AI and that old school anime style... Just, yes please.
2014 was the year that I think more than 85% of all the games I played were indie. I don't think I've ever experienced so much diversity in games
Whatever happened to that one open world-ish Dark Souls-like title with, like, very simple but amazing looking 3d graphics.. there were only a couple of artworks and an ingame gif with a dude and his hair in the wind, overlooking like a valley or some hiils, i think. i can't remember the name, but it was in one of these threads, and it was made by a Gaffer too, i think.
I think I preferred 2013 overall, 2014 had some great releases, but 2013 saw more games that I'll be still considering among my favourites in years to come, for example Card Hunter, Cart Life, Factorio, FEZ PC, Fjords, Full Bore, Kentucky Route Zero, NEO Scavenger, One Way Heroics, Papers Please, Reus, Rogue Legacy, Spelunky, Starseed Pilgrim and some more.
I'm so bad a remembering games.
what was the metroid clone called a gaf member is doing?
and what was that arpg that has the same color pallet as FEZ?
music sounds alike too. AFAIK the composer is the same as on FEZ.
Woohoo, a new year! And a shitload of games to play and even more to discover!
So anyone know that one game where you play as a Rat with a ukulele(?) , and it seems to be inspired by Redwall, but it isn't RedWall.
I'm just mainly talking ratios. Maybe because there were more AAAs that got my attention in 2013 vs. 2014, but the overall ratio of games I played was significantly higher indie this year than last. I think last year it was closer to 70%.
I mean I'd have to compare what i liked in the indie world in 2013 and 2014 to see which year I preferred more in that regard, haven't really compared the two in that way
Ah, gotcha. Yeah, I was playing more high profile games before 2013 as well, mostly because consoles had a better big budget output than they do currently.
Still, the diversity and quality of indie games is indeed increasing and just plain awesome to see.
Oh hey, you got Desert Ashes in the opening post. I played a fair bit of that on my iPod last year, good to see it has reached PC. Solid Advance Wars clone, although the one issue I kept running into with it is the unit designs are so out there in places it can be hard to remember just what their roles are. Many times I rode the 'flying whales' into the enemy ranks thinking they were the front line fighters only to learn they were the artillery.
Edit: Drift Stage has a demo now!
Outstanding, dunno how I came to think this, but I was under the impression that this game had been canceled, very happy to be wrong. Dunno how it is in motion, but from screen I gotta admit that this has some of the most amazing visuals I've seen in a game in a long time.
Spent New Year's morning playing Lost Constellation and loved it. Nice and short, I hope Night In The Woods is cut up (pacing wise) in to similarly bite-size chunks.
Drift Stage is incredble. I think I'm going to be playing that alpha all afternoon. They have a way to go but they're definitely onto something. I don't think the low poly track really adds anything to the aesthetic, and it detracts from the game play which is a shame. I hope in the final tracks they decide to make the corners smooth as the game handles. As it stands it's a little too difficult to get out of a drift and you can end up smashing into a wall just to cancel it. Additionally the game doesn't feel that fun to play without drifting. Sort of like how some Mario levels aren't fun unless you just hold down the sprint button. I think that is something the game lacks and probably should provide. But I guess it's too early to say what their goals are.
Hope the art direction transforms into other settings and times of day.
Cant remember reading anything about it. What is it about?
How good are the tablet controls compared with mouse? Take longer? Less precise?
A bit longer because you have to drag the commands, but double tapping works really effectively for opening up the submenus you need to switch between Grab and Drop, Bond + and -
The main difference is that the story elements aren't in the iPad version
But overall it's SpaceChem on the go and it works great
Funny that the majority of my iPad purchases have been PC ports. FTL, Papers Please, Botanicula, SpaceChem. FTL feels like it destined for touch, the touch controls are that good
