Rumor: GTA V PC copies which are not bought on Steam won't use Steam?

Maybe late to the party but is it true that GTAV keys sold outside of Steam are for Rockstar SocialClub? Just read this in post by a team member of Gamesplanet: https://de.gamesplanet.com/game/grand-theft-auto-v--2625-1? (German)

Also read a bit on the store page on GamesPlanet and from the info I gathered via the notification on the website and from a user called ChrisV GTA V copies bought outside of Steam will only be reedemable and downloadable on Rockstar Social Club which might explain GreenManGamings use of "Other DRM" logo on their store.

Not sure about this. Anyone have any other info?

It is quite possible, I got MP3 on gamesplanet and it was not steam version, which I was fine with.

Shame that retail copies won't activate on Steam but there was little chance after MP3. I can't remember but I think RSC has achievements support.

Steam page doesn't list any Steam specific features like achievements. Maybe Rockstar is going the UPlay route.

The steamdb is listing store and CD keys but I don't know much about how that works.
They have Social Club for that.
Yeah but again, Max Payne 3 at least had Steam achievements.

Yeah, just to make sure everyone is clear on this: par for the course for retail Rockstar since Max Payne 3. Retail copies didn't redeem on Steam not contain Steam functionality. You used a sort-of standalone Rockstar Social Club launcher for it.

Im sure Amazon sold Steam codes, that's how I got my copy. This thread makes it sound like it won't go through Steam at all

Around MP3 release Amazon was the exception thanks to Tony (aka. the one working with digital games at Amazon) working his magic there. They also have plenty of Ubisoft games with Steam keys etc. But now that Tony is gone, that luxury might be over.

That's a huge shame. Telltale are trying their hand at that one as well. If they don't want to use Steamworks then it would be nice if they at least offered the game through Origin as well.

Crazy to think this game is coming out in less than three weeks. Almost no info on the PC version out there. Have they even released recommended specs yet?

Isn't the steam version better? (Update speed and comfort)
What are the advantages of the other one compared o steam?

You mean €59.99 on Steam, while retail copies will be found for €45-50. PS4 version has been €50 cheapest.

Amazon are selling the retail version for £34.99 in the UK and it would be unusual for them to undercut an RRP by more than £10 at launch. I know there's disparity between European and British prices but that seems like an awful lot. £44.99 is the maximum average RRP for a new PC game in the UK but very few will actually charge that apart from Steam. Even Call of Duty only has an RRP of £39.99

Nothing, but GTA 5 does not really need marketing.
Should be a very good "port".

My concern is that two of us use the same PC but with our own Steam accounts. We share our games using the family sharing option.

I don't have any experience with the Rockstar Social Club (RSC). Would we both be able to play the game under our own RSC profiles or does it lock to one RSC profile?

I pre-ordered from Simply Games yesterday and this could sway me to cancel.

Entirely different DRM system and I think it's for one profile only. I had a lot of problems with it on MP3 and I bought that on Steam. It's definitely not the most stable piece of software ever written.

Meh, I wanted physical but in that condition I'll buy digital.

Honestly, I'm not really sure I want to pay Rockstar at all. Their attitude to PC gaming is beyond stupid.

Its true. My Rockstar contact told me the retail copy is non steam, it will use rockstar social club.

The retail version will contain 7 DVD's.

Is registering for the Rockstar Social Club a requirement to play any of their later games? I bought L.A. Noire on Direct2Drive years ago, and while it did not register on Steam and came in a standalone installer, I was able to play through the whole game without ever having to sign up or log into the Social Club.

Ohhhhhhh the rage on GTAForums is going to be so bloody glorious if this happens. You still have a whole legion of twats there pouncing and abusing anyone that even mentions the chance of another delay.

If they're anything like the players I've bumped into on GTA Online on XB1 then they are probably all too young to be playing this game in the first place.

It's perfectly normal. The Evil Within was £35 on UK Steam, €60 on EU Steam. I have no idea why UK is so damn much cheaper.
