Rumor : Is Dying Light delayed again?

Update 2 :
update : Jeuxvideo.com (biggest french vg website) is reporting the possibility of the game "trying to avoid controversy".

They're basically reporting the first rumor, adding that it could be a mission where you had to kill a group of muslim women zombies. It's unclear in their article if they're making a wild guess or if that's what they heard.
The digital version would allegedly suffer no delay because it would be easy to remove the controversial content until the last minute while the physical version needs to be fabricated again.

I wish techland were more forward with this and told us either yes or no, it's the reason of the delay. We'll know eventually when the US version will be compared with the version from the rest of the world.

Update : this site claims they reached Warner and got a confirmation for the delay. Biggest grain of salt here, i never heard about this site before.

Meanwhile here on gaf we're here.
No news of a delay in the States.

Sorry for the bad formating, i'm on mobile now.

Original story :
Yesterday in France, a few websites were reporting that Dying Light was going to be delayed again.

Playeronetv was the first one. They said the retailer Micromania (big vg retailer) would not take preorders anymore. I checked that on their website but it's not the case. Maybe only in stores, idk.
Then Gamergen followed without giving any source. But on their forums, someone allegedly reported this.

I work in retail, and the manager knows from a reliable source that the game is pushed due to certain scenes reminding the january attacks and they have to remove or change them.

Today i think, Amazon.fr changed the release date to march 31 and Fnac.com to February 27.

A few hours ago, this was posted in the forums.

A friend of mine tweeted this to the game account 22 hours ago, and is still waiting for an answer.

So what do you think gaf?

Delay me again if old.

I think Australia is a different beast. Maybe it was denied a rating there and they have to delay it until they change something? I wouldn't base other region delays on Australia personally

Doh...I'm dumb I somehow disregarded the France part. Scratch that

Sure, that's why there is a big marketing push going on at the moment.

And if it's because of recent events, go fuck yourself recent events.

I doubt it.

Some press in the UK have final review code.

If they're delaying it out of sensitivity, it's not something they could have predicted, so of course reviewers would have the code because it was supposed to be out in a few days. But they could be making changes now, or they could be keeping it as is but simply trying to get further away from the troublesome comparisons.

This isn't a situation where the game isn't finished. For a cross media example, this can be seen as similar to how the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 3 finale was delayed until the end of the summer because of comparisons to Columbine.

If it gets delayed to feb 27th then its dead on arrival. Feb/March is already stacked with AAA and indie releases.

I'm confused as to how a Zombie shooter freerunning game set in a Favela style environment would remind people of terrorist attacks on a satirical news outlet...? Or am I thinking of the wrong January attacks here.

I bet that Miles' post about "DO NOT PREORDER THIS GAME" had a huge early effect on sales and they needed to distance themselves from from his post.

The trailer's indicate that the primary human antagonists take hostages and torture and kill and all that good stuff.

You know, just like most games.

maybe it has more to do with the four hostages killing in Vincennes (in paris) supermarket.

We haven't gotten any word on a delay but then again I have not made it to work yet. I should know something in about an hour and a half if this is true.

It could be that there's a mission where humans take other humans hostage - presumably in a supermarket or an office? There was stuff like that in Dead Island; i.e. groups of bandits in tenement blocks and even the police station.

Would be sad if we couldn't have an hostage situation in a videogame anymore...

Despite looking like some South-American city featuring favelas, parts of the architecture as well as the interior areas showed some oriental looking decorations.

Some zombies also look a bit muslimic:

All that could be intepreted as islamophobic content, who knows?

The game's fictional city of Harran takes inspiration from Turkey and Istanbul apparently.

That's what I'm thinking too. It's not totally out of what could be there given what's been in the previous games, and the story stuff we've heard from this makes it sound a little dark.

This is Australia that we're talking about.. These are the same guys that just refused Hotline Miami 2 to be released down there. The game is probably just getting censored over there. That's all.

It won't have any overall impact, but as the Charlie Hebdo stuff is still fresh in people's minds Techland and Warner will want to distance themselves from any potential association that could be spun into negative press.

Oh, that's unfortunate. That could be the reason why; maybe they're having to re-skin a bunch of stuff to make it generic central Europe rather than more specific Turkey or suchlike.
