Nintendo: Amiibo Sales Reach New Milestone - Over 2.5 Million Sold In NA

I mean, they don't do jack in terms of working with software or being functional. But some of them look really really nice. Given how cheap they are, they are cool (if you are into collecting figurines). So I would only suggest collecting, if you are into them for well....just collecting. They aren't that functional as of now in terms of being useful. This is my collection:

It´s always amusing and sad to see the arrogance of certain people who also feel the need to make insults. It´s also almost to a comical degree, "why didn´t you release it earlier *idiots*". Even funnier considering they have access to certain sales informations, but often it seems they ignore common sense and an idea of practibilty. The amiibos didn´t work just because they were a toyline with Nintendo IPs, there have been such things in the past, but the integration in one of their best selling videogame franchise played a big part to the sales performance of this particular line of figures. And we know that big projects take their time in development.

Can you believe there were people who said amiibos were a dumb idea?

Yes, because I still don't understand the wide appeal. Hell, I listen to a Nintendo podcast where all the members don't get the appeal.

I figured Amiibo would be a decent side source of revenue due to sales from die-hard Nintendo collectors and parents of small children, but nothing on this magnitude. And it's certainly not the quality of the models that is the appeal.

But shit, I guess I'm happy for Nintendo, as long as the Amiibos keep being used for trivial extra features I don't care about.

john deere sold more baseballcaps than harvesters this year.
I don't get your point
And I'm sure Ferrari sold more hats and jackets than cars this year.

So really, what's the next line after the Super Mario line? Animal Crossing, or Pokemon.

Pokemon has to happen right?

Originally I wanted just a few (Pit, Robin, Megaman, Shulk and Toon Link), on day one while getting Smash I got Mario and Villager because why not, now I'm hunting them all, and I wont rest untill I have the whole Smash line D:

Edit: But I guess 2.5m is still kinda low, especially compared to DI and SL, then again it's only one platform without a proper amiibo game, so idk.

Well, 2.5 million in 1 month and a half in America. Not sure how DI and SL compares to that

Pokemon with Pokken Tournament would make sense.

I want Splatoon too but they're probably not willing to take the risk on that IP yet.

Okay, did you make this display or buy it somewhere. Because it looks absolutely beautiful.

IKEA sells them. I heard about them over on reddit. A lot of the anime figurine collectors were recommending it.

It's pretty reasonable at $64. Then I bought an acrylic stair platform on Amazon that just happens to fit the size of the case:

Then I just put the lighting in myself.

I just realized that I have no idea what the actual Skylanders and Infinity games entail. My only exposure to them was a trailer for the Baymax figure that they played before Big Hero 6 in the theater... from that trailer, I gather that these games are just big open worlds that you walk around in and beat enemies up?

It shouldn't take too much effort for Nintendo to top that.

They are 3d action/platform, similar to the old skylander games. Infinity also has a "user generated content" mode.
Skylander Swap force (the third installment) was pretty good, in mocking old-school 3D platformers, imho.

Nintendo would be fools if they didn't make one.

I really hope they will do it. Maybe 3DS/Wii U as Smash. I could see Next level games taking care of it.

Sounds like Nintendo's MO, really. A light 3D action platformer with worlds for each represented franchise, playable with all of the characters. They could release it F2P and still make huge money... I know that I would be buying way more Amiibos than I currently am just to have more characters playable.

That's still a great segment for them.

Those collectors and parents are basically making sure that each shipment of those limited figures sell out. After that word regarding the sell out spreads and builds up anticipation for the next release.

People are monitoring certain retailer websites just to make sure they don't miss out on Amiibo pre-orders. There are even those who order Amiibos from different countries because they couldn't get in their own country.

We're almost certainly going to get an Amiibo-centric game revealed at E3, right?

It seems like the obvious next step.

I doubt it after the Mario Party 10 Amiibo reveal.

I'm glad amiibo is a success. I hope amiibo support will be a thing in the future (Codename Steam amiibo implementation is the best)
