So now that the game is out what do you guys think of it? Is it worth the current price? How does it compare to Grid Autosport and other racing titles on PC? How's the career mode?

Its much better than Grid Autosport in every way, but i think the career mode in AC is very difficult for a casual car-sim-gamer like me

In its current state, AC is an excellent trackday/hot lapping simulator. However, the AI, multiplayer and career leave much to be desired. Thankfully, Kunos are aware of these weaknesses and are working to improve them in future updates.

I just love it! It's demanding on your skills, but very nice!

Just did an online session with the RUF on Spa, trackday practice.

The NSX is pretty good in this early stage. It's fun, but it's not the cartoon-like chuckable cars Niels made for the rFactors. The sound of the thing is sublime however. I mean strikingly good.

I just discovered the Kutch 2000SL bare version (sexy) tonight. Hate understeer? This is your car. Like wheel spin in every gear? This is your car. With the boost dialed back a smidge, it's definitely one of my favorites in AC. It feels unlike anything I've driven before in this sim.

The Kutch has been my favorite mod for a while now. Have to check out this new version soon. That thing bends the laws of physics with the turbo at 100% (in the best possible way).

I have almost 200 hours in the game and I still cant get a feel for the braking. I don't know what's wrong with me.

I'm playing this less and less because I just don't feel I can improve at all. Its not fun trying to specifically spend effort to practice and get better and not have any progress in over 100 hours.

Is FanaLEDs (or whatever it's called) compatible with your G27? Using FanaLED, I've setup my t500 and pedals to ever so slightly vibrate when my brakes are locked up. It's completely unrealistic, but it sure helps.

Just got this, liking it so far, anything I should or shouldn't be doing or any tips on settings etc etc

My setup ( still a work in progress )

AMD FX 4130 5.0ghz
4GB DDR3 1600mhz ( being upgraded )
2 x 280x Crossfire
Corsair CX750M PSU
Roccat Kova+ mouse
Sennheiser 555's Headphones

playing on a DS4 pad at the moment, but should have a G27 tomorrow.

Huh, how does that work? I always thought FanaLED was just a nice looking rev meter you could customize shift points with. That would be pretty great, though.

I think I've solved a big part of the problem, though. I reduced my FoV quite a bit(all the way to 40 degrees) and I'm doing much better. I think what was happening was that I simply wasn't getting an accurate sense of my slowing speed. With a lower FoV, I've got a much better sort of 'awareness'(I don't know how to describe it properly...) and I'm judging my braking better as a result. I still think my braking technique is off somehow, but I don't feel lost anymore at least.

Definitely check out the mods. Beyond just cars and tracks, one of my must-have's is OV1Info. This is a fantastic all-in-one replacement for several of the lacklustre vanilla AC UI apps.

F11 to toggle rearview mirror.

Driving during sunrise/sunset is pretty.

Ma man!

I actually forgot you ran some crazy-ass fov. I would have fingered that as being a contributing factor to your problems if I had remembered. The track is so distorted at such a high fov, it's no wonder you couldn't hit your marks. I doubt I could even do a clean lap like that, let alone a fast one.

You definitely struck gold with that change.

That UI looks ace. I'll have to grab it. Thx.

Had no idea about the ffb stuff in fanaleds :O . The only thing I was missing going from the PWTS to my TX wheel was the rumble when breaking a certain amount (I had it set around 80%). The locking feature sounds useful, definitely trying it out next time.

Anyone know what the issues are with AC and crossfire? I was running about 120fps when just on single player with one card and since going to crossfire it now sits at 4fps ( four ) fps and hardly moves, works a treat on the other games just seems to be this one.

That looks amazing. But my video card setup unfortunately hits the bugs mentioned in it: An older ATI card (5970 and 5850) w/ 1GB video RAM :/ I need a cheap 2GB solution that would perform at least as well as my current setup, if anyone has any suggestions ;)

Lucca Ring is very impressive. Love the tree covered boulevard. The layout and look reminds me of parts of the London tracks in both GT5/6 and PGR3/4. I'm not sure it'll race real well, but it sure looks pretty.

This was the first time driving the NSX with the Oculus too. The interior for that car is really convincing. It's all really well textured and has the right 90's sheen to it. The dash is vinyl-y, the switches are high-gloss plastic, the speaker covers are wooly, the pleated leather door inserts, it's all great. Except for the day-glow red seats in the R. Those need some toning down.

It funny how little I notice about the interiors without the Rift on. To be honest, I hardly care about them at all. With the Oculus, it's a completely different story.

I'm guessing you're an ATI fan so I'd suggest an R9 280 with 3GB RAM for around $250 at PCCG. Here is a YT video comparing Radeon 5870 in 2x CrossFireX vs one R9 280x - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePfmlThdDTs

Of course you could sell your existing GPU's and use the funds for an even better ATI GPU such as the 290X ;)

Wow, that seems awfully cheap... and I'm honestly surprised there's a comparison vid available on YT!

I believe my cards (particularly the 5970) are apparently valuable in terms of bitcoin mining (if that's still a thing) so I might be able to get myself something pretty fantastic. I'm not all that aligned with AMD/ATI either, particularly with their very average driver support (although if I go single-card that may become irrelevant) so if there's an nVidia solution that works just as well or better, I'd love to hear it :)

That's the major benefit ATI has - their performance versus price ratio is fantastic. FWIW, the R9 280 is rebadged HD7950 whilst the R9 280X is a rebranded 7970. I was shocked to find a YT video too ;)

Nothing I could find locally matches the performance of the 280 in Nvidia's lineup for the same price; the GTX 760 is available for around the same price as the 280 and is better thermally and has lower power consumption however it provides lower frame rates in every game. The software side of things can be a little more tricky to gauge - Nvidia can be 'hit and miss' with their drivers (far more 'hits' in my experience); that said, I keep reading ATI are getting better with their drivers too.

As long as it runs AC without too much issue (and I think the big problem is VRAM more than anything) I think I might have to bite. $250AU is far cheaper than I was expecting for an above-average GPU, too. Especially one that matches my current setup. I noticed the R280 matches the 6990 (the 5970 of the 6000-series generation) so I reckon I'll be safe.

Do you mean more like $270? I'm still using the HD4890 1GB I got when I built my PC back in 2009. Everything else had been upgraded since then except the GPU. Is there any reason to buy one now and not wait until maybe mid-year? Since I'm not in any rush or anything obviously ahah. I just play at 1920x1200 as well with no interest in getting a higher res monitor any time soon.

Yep, it's $269. I was probably looking at prices on Newegg or whatever to ascertain how high the Aussie tax was at PCCG ;) $269 is still a decent price for a quality mid-level GPU.

Upgrade when you feel the need to do so. Most of the current GPU's are either rebrands of older cards or slightly tweaked versions of older models. Shaneus will have better all-round performance (better fps, lower temps, lower power usage) upgrading to a R9 280 (or higher). One can always offload their GPU onto eBay or Gumtree and use the money on the latest and greatest from Nvidia or ATI.

As for mods, I've downloaded the 787B, C6R, Nissan Primera, Miura, GP2 series and the tracks Mosport and Snoopy's Nordschleife. Those seem to be the best ones from what I can gather. Any others you all can recommend?

Edit: Forgot that I also have the Kutch.

Your best bet is to just go to Race Department's AC download page and click away at the highest rated/most downloaded content. A lot of it is wip or middling, but there are some gems.

FCM FC2-2014 Season 1.1 Final Release: https://www.mediafire.com/?5b1obbomrwu238i

Related story: http://www.bsimracing.com/assetto-corsa-fcm-fc2-2014-season-1-1-final-release/

Fans of single seater series will have noticed that the car model is close to resembling a modern GP2 car, while also the specs and liveries might look familiar. A while ago the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) have sended out a “cease and desist” letter to several modding teams around the world working on mods resembling FIA governed cars and series. For that reason, mods such as the FCM FC2-2014 are using a different name and only have their mods loosely based on the real world cars they wish to resemble.

The NSX is so great. I've been driving it non-stop this week. Along with chargingcar's Radical, which is also a blast.

That's a pretty good Eastern Creek too. Gonna check out Luccaring today.

The ORECA FLM09 is supposed to release in a few days. Looks really nice, they've done great work already with the Corvette DP.

Dream Pack DLC teaser - Alfa Romeo 155 TI

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOBSPoEnU1g

EDIT:
Is this the first footage we have of proper post-launch paid DLC?

Also, I love it when smaller sims get real, recognisable racers in to test their product. I'm mostly talking about Barrichello with GSC, but AC getting various drivers to test (including Larini) must be a great thing. Have a feeling many more drivers will line up for these sorts of endorsements, especially after Barrichello winning the Brazilian Stock Car championship last year. Hope Reiza got some extra sales out of that one!

PS. Have I ever said how much I love the look of AC? IMO the best looking racer on PC, particularly with the level of detail in things like body flex and car movement in general, which I just never see with footage of any other game. Though if anyone else has any challengers, I'd love to see some videos :)

We are glad to present the second teaser dedicated to Assetto Corsa Dream Pack, featuring the BMW M235i Racing, that will be included in the package currently under final development and betatesting. The first additional pack will come with some updates of the main build of Assetto Corsa and will introduce some new features, improving also the existing code. Other details will be revealed once the scheduled process will be completed and tested. The release is confirmed for Q1 2015.

Any tips for photomode - particularly DOF Focus....?

Love the look of this game and before i get a G27, i want to create some wallpapers.

Would love some pointers, maybe a guide.

Thanks
