Don't expect Dying Light reviews till release date or later

Again, there is endless footage of the game on Youtube.
Literally the first hours of the campaign are on Youtube being played by countless Youtubers who got early preview copies.

Unless the release version suddenly turns everything you can see there into shit,I don't see how a review is in any way meaningful to this game.

This. I find that youtuber impressions are more meaningful than reviews these days anyway. Actually seeing the game in motion is way more informative than a bunch of wannabe bloggers using flowery words to justify their like/dislike of games without really explaining much. Showing is telling.

Super Best Friends playthrough already made this a purchase when they found
EXPcalibur

A shame that all signs point to shit with Dying Light, I enjoyed Dead Island.

No signs point to it. Everyone who has played the game says it's very good, and all the gameplay on youtube confirms it.

dead island was an absolute blast for me, i have no worries about dying light. As other have said, plenty of footage out there proving (to me) that this game is going to be pretty amazing and fun, especially with friends.

Day 1, screw reviews

I'm not sure why people are pre-defending this. Techland's track record is mediocre, at best.

Edit: apparently there is a lot of footage... So I can see it sort of, but remain skeptical.

There are hundreds of videos of the preview versions on Youtube, all of them with hours and hours of footage of the campaign.

I am pretty sure people can use that to paint themselves a picture of the game.

Those where made for marketing. If the game has any bugs, the campaign is super short, any wonks in mechanics that where hidden, etc. etc. etc. can all be hidden until release.

This is a scummy move that needs to stop.

Almost all of the previews have been positive and there is a shitton of gameplay videos on Youtube. Hell there are fucking PLAYTHROUGHS on Youtube already. Stop acting like the game is confirmed trash and no hope from publisher because several reviewers say they haven't got their review codes yet. If there was no confidence from the publisher they wouldn't be letting youtubers put up fucking HOURS of gameplay on Youtube.

If you're worried about the game watch some of the several hundred hours of gameplay available on Youtube instead of relying on reviews.

All the ones on YT early looks are paid promotions, but there is enough footage to determine if you would like the game for yourself without any of their input.

Yeah I haven't heard anything besides the issues with pre order and launch concerns

This game isn't gonna end or begin well it seems :/

That's cool, I can wait for you guys to tell me if its worth it or not. Gut feeling, it won't be. Pretty much done with buying games day one.

I don't trust Youtubers' impressions myself. They are more likely to be corrupt with brand deals and advertorials (Shadow of Mordor, Battlefield 4, XB1M13, etc) where they're only allowed positive impressions near launch when given early exclusive review code and don't follow any ethics code of conduct unlike compared to critics at most gaming outlets.

Youtubers and gaming are where more unethical shit goes down compared to hemming and hawing about critics always being on the take.

Same developers as Dead Island?

Fuck, I'd be shocked if the game even loads. Anyone buying this has surely heard of their reputation?

Whatever.

I've decided to stop buying games in 2015 Day 1 because of stuff like this. So instead Dying Light sits at number 1 in my Gamefly Q.

Dead Island was far less buggy than a Bethesda game, and you've got millions of people on GAF lined up to preorder Bugout 4. Please.

So, NOT spoiling any of a game you want to experiencing yourself from beginning to end , and letting a reviewer give you a hopefully unspoiled breakdown of the good or bad of said game (bugs, shoddy programming, AI issues , etc..) is stupid?

Rather than posting a picture so as not to have an actual discussion, next time break down why you think that's stupid.

Too much logic!
Agreed, I look forward to the finished product, i loved both dead island and riptide.

I was really interested I'm this game last year but after all the shit they've pulled and now this!? Final nail in the coffin for me.

Where are you seeing it's cutting to a new mode separate from the story?

It's an invasion, the hives spawn when the zombie invades and is how you repel it.
Maybe it's me who doesn't know what an invasion mode is? I guess let's say this is not what I expected. I thought invading another player meant you being placed in their instance as a hostile entity. Basically drop-in anti-co-op. This sets up new objectives in place of whatever you were doing before. There are respawns. You can win the match, whereupon there is an end of game stats tally. Looks less like invading and more like a roundabout - although (hopefully) seamless - system for matching up players for a round of Huntered.

edit
If this simply meant that a dangerous, player-controlled zombie could pop up unexpectedly, that would be one thing. Instead, the entire game shifts into a versus mode, where you’re tasked with destroying zombie nests while the hunter has to kill you a certain amount of times – and it takes bloody ages. It is also significantly more fun for the invader than the invaded. Rather than feel the fear of an invasion, one simply rolls their eyes as gameplay is fully disrupted, and whatever – inevitably more important – task you were doing is abandoned. You can turn zombie invasion off in the settings, and I did after successfully beating a night hunter in a sixteen minute game of cat-and-mouse and got rewarded with another invasion literally five seconds after the first wrapped up. It doesn’t feel intimidating or spontaneous, it’s just a blatant multiplayer game awkwardly forced in.
That.

the game will be doodoo just like dead island. bookmark this post yo
Why? It's not like you're making a big, bold prediction here. The entire forum agrees with you.

Me? I'm going to at least play the game before deciding if it's bad or not. Crazy notion, I know.

Aren't early YouTube Lets Plays usually paid? I would rather wait to hear from fellow members here than YouTube personalities or reviewers.

Yes usually. Especially if they have been allowed to show it. I would know, I used to do youtube and had my fair share of stuff sent to me to discuss, but was mostly indie games. Mostly like, here is a game, do a preview, just talk about it but don't go into the negative. It happens on the bigger titles for bigger youtubers though.. Granted I used to get review copies as well from my youtube but those never had any caveats like that. Only the preview stuff or early access stuff did.

I don't even remember what this game is about honestly and had no clue it was releasing anytime soon until seeing this thread. I won't be buying it though based off what's been going on with it.

I was wording myself poorly. I don't necessarily trust the opinions of youtubers, I trust impressions videos in that they show raw gameplay for like 30-60 minutes. I trust the gameplay.

I'm aware of those cases.

I trust impressions videos in that they show raw gameplay for like 30-60 minutes. I trust the gameplay.

But, that's not necessarily true. In the case of Mordor, they were told they weren't allowed to show any bugs/glitches. So, if any would have occurred while they were recording, they wouldn't be allowed to show you without breaking their agreement:

Videos will promote positive sentiment about the game. Videos must not show bugs or glitches that may exist.

All videos had to be approved before they went up, as well:

The company has final approval on the YouTube video… at least 48 hours before any video goes live.

Source.

Youtube deals can be shady as fuck.

I'm in it for this alone, VR that is implemented at the developer level is highly superior than using a 3rd party plugin like VorpX. I am absolutely excited to see how this looks in the Rift.

Here's an article from 2 days ago.

http://vrfocus.com/archives/10748/dying-light-dev-oculus-rift-support-brainer/

and Tech Crunch had a good feature on it last month.

http://techcrunch.com/2014/12/17/we-tried-zombie-survival-game-dying-light-on-the-oculus-rift/

Sounds like it sucks and doesn't translate to VR based on that techcrunch article.

ooh ha really? i thought besides the pre order thing people were pretty excited about it. I'm just like they ain't gonna bullshit me again.

I also heard "around launch," but was hoping for before launch since I can't wait for this game. However, it's WB, and they seem to send stuff out at launch more-so than anyone else.

This is a game I'd buy day one, though, because I love the genre and really enjoyed it at E3.

Exactly. Also if we cut out the commentary, gameplay walkthroughs can't tell you much about the controls or other basic game feel things. Can still have mediocre/bad games that look great on video.

Techlands last game Call of Juarez: Gunslinger was actually very slick and polished (not to mention loads of fun).

I'm not saying pre-order (I won't be!), just pointing out that they are capable of putting out good games that work well.

A release date embargo ugh... This could get ugly. Recent releases with a release date embargo ended up the game being crap I.E Asscreed Unity and The Colonial Marines.

Good thing I dident pre order...
