Embargo just lifted. Here's some new footage of the new Raid mode.

Along with some hands-on impressions.

Now featuring a light story to offer some context to the chaotic battles, you play as an A.I. within a battle simulator from the Red Queen Alpha database. Within the digital HUB area, represented as a vestibule within a mansion, you're tasked with collecting data from different characters while running simulated battles against challenging foes. As you complete tasks, you'll find audio-logs that reveal more about Red Queen Alpha and its connection to the outside world. As you conquer challenges, the A.I. gains gold which can be spent on upgrades, new weapons, and new missions to engage in. Moreover, the A.I. can take the form of many different characters from RE's past and present (including Wesker and Hunk), and use their unique skills in digitally recreated areas from the main campaign, and even from previous Resident Evil titles.

It looks fun, but I can't buy a game for just one side mode. Mercenaries on RE6 was crazy fun, but that didn't change the mess the rest of the game was. Sso far, I'm not really digging the rest of Revelations 2 despite it having some of my favorite characters.

Edit: The Red Queen is in the game universe now? eh...

Meh, never was a fan of these type of game modes in RE, including Mercenaries.

Me too. Tried Mercenaries in RE3 and RE4 ... didn't like it at all. Felt like some tacked on high score battles. Not my kind of thing. Never touched it again. I want more things like Assignment Ada/Seperate Ways ... not Mercenaries. And first and foremost ... I want good RE games again :(

Blah, just Claire. Hope we see some Wesker stuff soon, wonder if he'll play more like his RE4 or 5 self.

Also, at the end of the video No online play at the start? smh Capcom. Can't even finish the product before rushing it out?

It's safe to say this is most likely never gonna happen, unless Capcom brings more classic REs as REmakes HD .

How's this work with the game being episodic? Do you get Raid Mode for buying only one chapter, for buying the full season pass, or is it a mixture of the two, with raid content unlocking with each chapter?

You're really missing out, the strength of the resident evil games since RE2 has always been it's very precise and well balanced combat. Since RE4 it's become even more focused on gunplay + melee combat that's just a blast to play.

I've been hooked since battle mode in RECVX. The Mercenaries mode in RE4 feels like a game you would find in an arcade, just fun zombie killing action with suplexes and superman kicks. Each iteration of Mercs in RE has only gotten better and better.

Raid mode come with episode one, and it's unlocked after completing. With the first episode, you have two characters to play as and have three mission packs (18 stages) to play through. In the next episodes, you unlock more characters and stages in Raid mode. If you buy the season pass or wait for the retail release, you get them all at once (baring special character/stage unlocks)

RE5 Mercs felt the best to me. Shooting the kneecaps, then getting the quick kill with a Chris neck-breaker. Or Ghost Butterfly with Wesker. RE6 Mercs felt like a downgrade.

I passed n Revelations 1, so I'll have to see how I like this.

ugh, i love raid mode but i hate what they've done with the resident evil formula

The series doesn't even have an identity anymore. Capcom doesn't know what to do with the IP outside of pumping out content. Fans are all over the place in gameplay and presentation that no matter what is done a lot of people will get pissed off. The lore/universe is an unnecessary mess.

And while I'll give that there's some interesting stuff involved gameplay-wise, it's still a C-team throwaway while Capcom consults with teenage fashion magazines to find the new 'it' to bring to the formula in the next 'proper' installment.

I've enjoyed all the Mercenary/side modes (except Leech Hunt) in RE games, but it's a damn shame that that's all that the series seems to be standing on at the moment.

Edit: To inject some positivity, I do hope to see in the future more moments like the Giant Chainsaw Ganados from RE4 mercenaries. Something unexpected in these modes to shake things up.

What didnt you like about RE6 Mercs? you have alot more options at your disposal.

The best strategy was always cap em in the head, and go in for the melee, rinse and repeat. You can also shoot them in the shoulder till they turn and go for the melee finisher. Jakes has an entire moveset dedicated to do just melee combos, and finishing off enemies with a giant swing.

yeah this is kind of the biggest deal to me actually, beyond the gameplay details found in the vid.

no online until the last episode is released? that's like over a month from the initial release of the first episode isn't it?

Looks like they re-discovered/re-used Lost Planet 2's plethora of gesture animations, but Claire looks absolutely ridiculous doing them. This title is looking so very pieced together.

I'm ok with it. Actually the Red Queen was the only one of the liberties they took for the movies that I actually liked.

Oh man, the possibilities...

Looks like Raid Mode, exciting, best thing about the first Revelations. Hope they don't go as boring with the characters/costumes as the first game.

Revelations 1 was one of my best RE games, Its worth a look if you own 3DS or Wii U. This is day 1 for me, cant go wrong for only £20 on PS4.

Why do we not have exploding heads? Seriously, why? If I shoot a zombie, point blank in the head, with a shotgun, why is there just a splatter of blood and a body flying across the screen?

vita limitations is my assumption
i'm pretty bummed that the game ultimately is forced to be designed under portable limitations too since that cuts down a lot of gameplay options (due to control limitations and memory limitations) alongside big important touches like that (exploding heads, that is)

Music is even the same as RE6 mercs. Feels like "recycled mode."
it's a re6 stage dude, of course it's gonna have re6 reference music. raid mode in rev1 had different music for different stages too

...Sony's doing the port themselves, right? Why would that be what's holding the game back?

Raid Mode was awesome in the first game(my single favorite thing in RE since REmake), however if Rev2 doesn't have a "Ghost Ship" equivalent it will be a major disappointment.

Chris Redfield better be in as well(hoping for Jill, Rebecca and Wesker/Barry's STARS costumes as well.)

Sony is funding so they can have a port on Vita. Rev2 did not start with a handheld port in the pipeline probably.
And ofc in order to have a Vita 'demaster' they might have to hold the console game back.
In any case Rev2 is not a full budget RE anyway.

thought i worded it well enough to answer that in my post but i'll try again:

if they knew from the start that the game would also have a vita version, it means from the ground up they have to design it with vita specs in mind. this includes controls, screen space/ui design and whatnot, alongside enemy reactions and numbers

think about how REV1's limitations gameplay-wise can be rooted to the 3ds- the simplified melee, smaller focus on precision aiming (larger weakpoints, effectively), no movement techniques, bland enemy designs (edit: gameplay wise, i mean) etc. the game was fantastically designed for the 3ds, but when ported to higher end consoles, it felt 'limited' in scope specifically due to that regardless of how much the graphical quality improved

I see. Thanks for the insight, guys. I assumed it was another Borderlands 2 situation where everything would be done fast and easy. Who's to say that couldn't be the case though, eh?
Please, no...

Red Queen? So they're incorporating the movies now? Ugh.

Red Queen was in Umbrella Chronicles, but the only similarity is the name and the fact that they're an AI.

Also,

Why do I have the feeling that this just spoiled who the mysterious female voice/main enemy is?

It certainly fits with what the producer said ("important to the universe and only hardcore fans would know her").

I swear this game must have been designed on MT Mobile first in mind because the game/models look more worst than 5 or 6 (I know it's a smaller team that's worked on this by budget but the textures look so poor) it's crazy.

Also it'll be interesting to find out the comings about the Red Queen AI System after the fall of Wesker.

Looks absolutely fantastic. Raid Mode was the best thing about Revelations and I am sure this'll be the same for 2. I hope we get a ton of playable chars.
