Apex 2015 has been evacuated due to struct damage - Some events may be cancelled

If anyone's confused, turn of events is basically:
Garage partially collapsed from storm. Event was okay, parking was going to suck
Hotel says venue is confirmed safe
For some reason, someone triggered an emergency door which sets off the fire alarm
Fire marshal inspects, finds event rooms unsuitable (meaning the hotel lied)
Apex postponed

Garage didn't collapse today, fire alarm guy isn't at fault, the hotel is.

To summarise, at least from what I understand, a couple hours ago a fire alarm was first triggered by someone opening a emergency exit, following that it appears another fire alarm was intentionally triggered.

When the fire marshal arrived and inspected the venue it was discovered many of the rooms had structural damage from the storm that hit the east coast a couple days ago. Everyone was evacuated from the building and now everything is up in the air for the tornement going forward.

Sounds like the hotel is, appropriately, getting in trouble for not having the building up to code for this event.

The whole thing is a shame, I hope that things are able to get sorted out for everyone down there.

This is apparently the garage that collapsed:

I got friends there, they knew parking would be fucked but this is screwed up. Hope everyone's safe

The hotel lied about the venue being safe. Not sure why anyone would have pulled a fire alarm but it's for the best this was discovered

btw team Sp00ky can't even get in to turn off their stream

While some may be quick to throw shade at the guy who pulled the alarm, he may have saved the welfare of many people this weekend. Pretty lucky if it was just a coincidence

Smash 4 and SSB64 room is closed for the entire weekend and it's not looking likely that Melee's is coming back up.

MLG are in talks with the Apex crew apparently and I sincerely hope they pull through. This is an unmitigated disaster and I have nothing but absolute resentment against the venue for this fucking travesty.

To bring things more up to speed, all venues at the hotel are now closed and while they are looking for alternatives, APEX is probably dead.

The Apex 2015? Leave out the word venue there? :p

True. As much as I want to see a Smash tournament, I'd much rather have the place evacuated if it prevents anyone from getting injured.

Before all the new trouble, this already happened to the parking deck and cut out a chunk of space in the venue:
(nevermind, beaten to pic)

Hopefully nintendo can do something to try to help out. Provide a venue for smash players (and to show off splatoon, of course!)

Yep, for sure.

And like I said in the other topic, I feel terrible for everyone there. Even if matches don't get streamed and we don't get to watch, I hope something happens because it will be so bad for all the players if they spent the money flying out there for nothing.

From what it sounds like, the police sound ready to start making arrests from how many safety violations they're now finding at the venue. That prank fire alarm may have saved a hell of a lot of lives, and not just for today.

I feel like they'll figure out someway to salvage it. That really does suck though, for everyone that traveled out there. I considered it myself, just to spectate.

I wouldn't be surprised if most of it ends up played in hotel rooms.

As an apology for lying about the safety of the venue, the hotel is offering all #Apex2015 attendees a free hour in the ball pit.

Seriously, that's messed. Good on the MLG folks for trying to help and I hope heads roll at that hotel.

what? i was looking forward to watching this all weekend.
hopefully Nintendo money can do good.

feel sorry for everyone who invested a lot of money to go there.

Wow, this sucks but is also really fortunate. Glad nobody got hurt, even if the tourney has to be delayed. Hopefully the hotel will reimburse everyone's travel money for the tournament.

Getting another large venue nearby in such a short space of time is unlikley. Even if they find one the price will be insane and i imagine the organisers money is tied up in the hotel.

Fucking sucks but im glad this was niped in the bud and nothing bad actually happend to people as a result of the building damage.

That garage roof collapse is nuts.

Maybe with some luck they can find an alternate venue.

It'd be really hard to find one in such short notice.

It can't be said enough just how much the hotel staff really fucked up here. Trying to cover up this much risk is insane.

Best case they'll find some way to host the important bits in hotel rooms. Hope the hotel gets what it deserves for this bullshit, they said it was safe and checked. Actual fire marshal disagrees

Managers at the Clarion hotel are getting gross amount of writeups from New Jersey cops for breaking x amount of laws. Ruh roh

Someone could've been killed because of their negligence. Taking money for the event while pretending nothing was wrong is bullshit.

This is just a catastrophe. Wonder what the TOs are gonna do now.

Spooky's stream went down--what happened? Can they do that remotely? They weren't able to get in to remove their shit

It probably was a staff member who knew about the conditions and wanted to alert the authorities anonymously.

Such a shame! I was really looking forward to Apex 2015. Hoping they can still go ahead but it's understandable if they can't. Safety first.

Hopefully all of the equipment can be recovered safely.

I say this now because no one was hurt, so the second priority is the equipment.
