Apex 2015 has been evacuated due to struct damage - Some events may be cancelled

Wow, the cave-in is nuts. It sucks that Apex was interrupted but it's clear there was a real safety issue so it's for the best.

Could they.. Move Apex 2015 someplace else? Or no?
They'd have to find a venue that could accommodate all of the entrants. Considering that the current venue (with very large ballrooms, mind) was booked months in advance the outlook isn't looking good right now.

As somebody who gets in awkward and shitty situations all the time, at least one person is probably relieved. At least there's that.

Room next to @ShippoFoxFire's at #Apex2015. Look at the roof.

I didn't know Apex is in Secaucus. It's like half an hour from me. Sounds like that hotel hasn't been doing maintenance lately and whatever snow that fell just exposed it. We did not get hit that hard lol.

What a clusterfuck this has been so far. Thanks, mother nature, for ruining everything.

This is more on the people running the location and caring more about collecting the money then the safety of their guest and customers. I'll be very surprised if legal action isn't taken over this. I would hope that perhaps Nintendo would also be stepping in to help where they can. Their people were at risk as well.

Gotta blame the people who were running the place first for not making sure it's safe.

If anyone's confused, turn of events is basically:
Garage partially collapsed from storm. Event was okay, parking was going to suck
Hotel says venue is confirmed safe
For some reason, someone triggered an emergency door which sets off the fire alarm
Fire marshal inspects, finds event rooms unsuitable (meaning the hotel lied)
Apex postponed

Garage didn't collapse today, fire alarm guy isn't at fault, the hotel is.

Yeah, fire alarm guy pretty much saved everybody's lives.

Nintendo definitely had a large stake in this event. Legal action here is pretty much inevitable.

I wouldn't be surprised if the issues went beyond just the recent weather conditions, considering how bad it seems.

yep. There's a review on the previously posted page that mentions the collapsed garage and was posted on January 25, before the storm hit.

Garage collapsed, told not to give "attitude." Posted January 25, 2015

... We grab some things to put away in the car before heading to the train station, but when we go outside, we find police tape wrapped around all the garage stairwells and a police car parked outside. They inform us, not the hotel, that the garage has collapsed and no one is allowed inside! ...

Geez, Apex can't catch a break. Hopefully no injuries had occurred, and that (hopefully) some of the event can be salvaged. Hotel has some explaining to do.

Everyone is fine, thanks to one guy who thought to be funny and trigger the fire alarm and unintentionally might be the hero of the day.

Totally, but it should come from the APEX organizers, not nintendo. Maybe they can give Nintendo legal a call and see if they can recommend a good lawyer.

Everyone got screwed. They should just storm the local library and set up there.

Holy fucking shit, I feel so awful for these guys. Wondered why when I stepped away from Twitter for a couple hours I came back to 200+ missed tweets.

It's really unlikely that a library would be big enough, plus there is the issue of the setups still being locked in the hotel.

Glad to hear everyone is safe. I hope the people in charge of that hotel get the book thrown at them for letting people into that building. This could have been so much worse.

Nifty AND saffron-colored!
To be honest I think apex organizers deserve some flack for going with such a shitty hotel. Everything about the hotel seems sketchy and second rate at best.

Wtf. Just, what the fuck. That this hotel was still in business is ridiculous. I am actually sort happy this happened now with no one hurt, so the ones responsible can be charged now (and from reading the posts, it seems that is going to happen).
