Rumour: Gold and Silver Mario amiibo on the way?

I've seen that there's the amiibo-specific party mode in MP10, but how does it work exactly? Is it worth getting a MP amiibo for that mode or will the Mario amiibo from Smash also work fine? I'd prefer to not have to buy anymore if I can just use the one I got.

The duplicate characters are equivalent in terms of functionality, but the NFC chip only has memory for one game. So you will have to erase your Smash data if you had that to use the same Mario Amiibo in MP 10.

maybe the "Limited Edition" ones will actually be available for purchase for a limited time (unlike the normal, Non-Existent Edition ones)

Wrong. "Limited Edition" because you'll buy it and only keep it for a limited time.

Personally, the silver would be the closest thing we'd get to Metal Mario, so that'd be my choice if they gave me the option.

I hope it is a gift for elite members, because it'd be idiotic to set these as normal rewards @ 800+ when most of us have already spent our coins.
Which is why it'd be brilliant and why I'm not spending a single coin on the rewards they're offering right now. It's a trap. I'm not falling for it.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
The PDF links have now been removed from the server... curious...

I don't think a "limited" amiibo situation would be much different than the current

I think I've never seen a Rosalina amiibo in real life :p

But yeah.. "officially" limited would cause even more scalping..

Woah woah what did he do that was ban-worthy?

Derailing the thread with waifu stuff, I believe.

Silver Mario and not Metal Mario? Seems a little silly.

In any case, I want one. Though there's no chance I'll get one unless it really IS a Club Nintendo prize. XP As it has been said, it's impossible to get REGULAR Amiibos, I shudder to think of how difficult it would be to procure an officially limited edition one.

Trolling. Read the first page.

Ah, I see, ouch.

Anyway,
I wonder if there are any chip differences, like if games will recognize it's special and make something shiny in-game.

I think I might collect the gold ones. I'll have to purchase a vault though so I can dive into them like scrooge McDuck.

But just one would be a nice centrepiece. Hope you can preorder somewhere.

Could be Club Nintendo prizes for Platinum/Gold.

I thought they released the final content update for Club Nintendo? If these are possible physical redemption items, I had better hold onto my coins for a bit.

That'd be pretty shitty if they announced something like that after making their Feb update look like the last one the program will get.

I'm 99% confident there will not be Club Nintendo exclusives. Just look at the box; it looks to be part of a bigger set of Limited Edition ("Gold Edition", "Silver Edition") amiibos.

These will probably just be a super limited run of certain amiibos, and it'll probably be a recurring thing going forward. They are cashing in on the collector appeal/rarity/desirability of these things.

Prizes for contests I assume, or Nintendo Store exclusives.

I won't go out of my way to get these ones. Color variants don't really interest me if I already have one.

I wouldn't be upset if this was the Club Nintendo reward, though I was hoping for something fancier and more impressive, akin to the Mario and gang figure, or the Luigi diorama.

It'd be better than just another list of digital downloads (not that I'd complain about that either; essentially free games).

Nope. Spend away.

"We now announce that the Silver and Gold Mario Amiibos will require Gold and Platinum member status respectively, plus 1000 coins. We appreciate your understanding."

The funny part is if these were CN rewards they'd be some of the more common amiibos

Not if you live anywhere else in the globe, though.

Until now I could get my hands on every single rare amiibo that I wanted without resorting to scalpers, only buying online from stores overseas.

Ike, Marth, Lucario, Meta Knight, Rosalina, Shulk, I managed to get them all, though I admit that I spent a lot of nights awake. If they were CN rewards, I would have to buy from people, and when you give somebody power is that you know how much they will fuck everything up.

I forgot about it erasing the Smash data, which kind of sucks.

Exclusive reseller editions. They should just start running ads for this stuff on the login pages for eBay and amazon seller pages. Just really focus in on who's really buying most of their product at retail.

Just kidding, but it's weird that back in 2004 they made something that looks jist like an Amiibo except this one is made from solid metal it's not just painted plastic. They gave them as a memento to platinum members to comemmorate the touch DS show where they sent out special tickets to all platinum members to let them get hands on with the DS before anyone else while at the show you were given a Mario statue.

Maybe i should buy a regular Mario crack open take out the NFC chip and put it in the base of the one i have as it has a hollow metal base with a plastic cap. Instant one of a kind Amiibo
