The Elder Scrolls Online |OT2| Unlimited Crowns, Limited Skooma

The only people that say that have no clue what they are doing. It has always been DPS.
It really depends on what MMOs you spent your time on. DPS is a very common term especially after it became the standard in WoW.

If you came from a game like FFXI or FFXIV the term used in that community is typically DD (Damage Dealer) though DPS is said often now too for obvious reasons.

I think the DPS term is silly, and I don't like using it. Maybe when tanks and healers go by TPS and HPS I'll think about it.

Eh. I always just pronounce it as Deeps, and that makes it funny to me.

Saw some 60 day subs for cheap, so I decided to resubscribe. Are there any guilds (EP or DC) out there you guys recommend?

Sorry, NA.

I'm looking for a guild that's group PvE / PvP oriented. I have a low level templar healer in EP that I'm working on at the moment, so I'd like to put it to use. I'd definitely like to do the trials down the line too. Not really interested in roleplaying though.

Well, you can of course join the GAF guild, just message me @XTVengeance. We are still trying to grow that one, though it is more personal for GAF. As for another guild, I would suggest More Than Fair. They have a pretty solid guild going, with people doing all aspects of the game.

Good googly moogly, it feels like the download for the PTS is never ending.

Okay, I'll give you a buzz next time I get on. I'll check out More Than Fair as well.

New Animations Video (Not PTS but from ESO:Live video)

I like a lot of the passive abilities offered in the champion system, especially the ones focused on countering attacks from your enemies. The new animations are pretty dope too. The only issue I see is with the light attack on the staves. They feel like they're missing a frame or two before they fire a missile.

Going to check out how stealing and fencing works in a wee bit.

What do your armor sets/dyes look like? I've always been such a fan of the Paladin T2 armor in WoW so that's kind of what I was shooting for with my Templar.

As someone who has shitty internet connection, should I start downloading the game before or after 1.6 patch rolls in?
I heard that the patch will be a big one. I don't want to download the full game right now and download another huge chunk of updates in March.
I really want to start playing by February 17th, I hope there's a 1.6 pre-patch available asap.

The download for the game itself is around 30~ GB, so you'll definitely want to have it done ahead of time. I've only just returned to the game myself, so I don't recall how the patch downloads are handled.

Okay, so they enabled the crown store today on PTS server. These are the items you can buy for real money.

The good: I got myself a Guar to ride and a pet dog.

The bad: it's basically Free to Play. You can buy unlimited health and magica potions if you have the cash so Cyrodiil will be fun.

They also did a 'play with the Devs' event tonight, which I attended. The lag was unplayable (30 seconds plus), lots of old bugs returned (falling through floor, doors unable to open etc) and then the zone kept crashing and rolling back every 10 minutes. I know they are testing, which is good, but it felt like the 2013 beta and launch again. So much has changed, it felt like a real mess. Hope they can staple it back together.

yea I'd start downloading now. You're going to want all the time you can get to download this game.

Had my first successful run at PvP last night, it's actually pretty awesome. I'm not usually a fan of PvP but it has a solid play style if you're with a good group of people. I had to find a group to get the last 4 gated Skyshards in Cyrodil but we had to defend a keep to stop the gates shutting, made it a good laugh.

Just got this game. Took 2 hours to install, but now it's past the baby-sitting step. Any tips to keep in mind for when I start playing? It's not my first MMO, but not really sure how much it differs from other MMOs.

Have fun :D best tip ;)

  • Don't buy gear or repair gear early on, just equip what you find
  • Don't worry about buying an expensive horse as in 1.6 they'll all be equal
  • Choose a race you like, unless you're an elitist then choose the passives you like
  • Don't focus on all the crafting skill lines early on, maybe just 2, as later on you'll have enough skill points to start levelling them all
  • Loot everything :D motifs come from bag, desks and bed side draws.
  • Read all the book shevles. You get about 5 free levels for 5 random skills per zone
  • Find a nice guild, we like to help each other out and we craft each other free gear that makes a big difference, if you're on EU ping me and I'll set you up with some stuff, if you're NA ping Vengeance and I'm sure he'll do the same.
  • You can join 5 guilds, if you're a do everything kind of person you could have a trade guild, PvE guild, PvP guild etc
  • Explore, quests come from looking around

If I think of more I'll add some

Take every weapon and armour you find, then use them for crafting (you can research items to learn skills and level crafting faster). Then you can start crafting your weapons and armour as you go along.

Explore. Forget quest marker MMO logic - if you see a forest, run into it. If you see a camp in a desert, go to it.

So far I'm digging the hell out of this, though it's a little frustrating to see areas completely picked clean of loot by someone who was just a few minutes ahead of me. I blame my obsessive need to hoard for that, though.

Should I be focusing my skills points on just a few skill sets, or can I spread my points out without having to worry too much down the road?

Stealth class is great. I use it on my main. Just get a heavy attacK in on your first target from stealth then rip the main to pieces. If you look for shards, do group dungeons and do main quests you should get enough skills to be able to try most skills. Try to focus on 1 armour type but if you equip at least 1 other armour type you can level that to. Remember skills can be morphed at level V so keep skill points for that if you want an even cooler ability. You can respec your skills at shrines later on for a price so don't worry to much. I think I must have respected about 8 times now.

People are great in zone chat to. Just shout out if you're at a boss or dolmen and people come running :)

Welp, now I'm frustrated as hell at this game. Everything absolutely destroys me. Just doing some of the first quests, I get killed in just 3-4 hits, and no matter how far away I am from an enemy, they always hit me.

I don't know anything about a starter island, but the missions I'm doing are rated at my level. Though, one of the quests I did that was at my level had enemies 2 levels higher...

During beta testing, progression during the very early levels was more linear. After you escaped from Coldharbour, you'd be placed in isolated starting zones, where you'd complete questlines to progress to where we start now.

To access those areas, you speak to an NPC at the docks where you first arrive at. You should go back to them anyway to get the skyshards.

I can see why they'd want to make the 2 starter zones optional, but the way they handled things by just dropping you straight in the starting capital just makes things more confusing. Should have done it the other way around with a chance to opt out of the starting zones rather than opt in.

Also a tip for leveling is to not invest a lot of points in passives early on. You want to focus on filling out as many active abilities as you can first and level them up to a decent level (Skills will only level up while they are slotted), so you won't have to start from scratch with grinding them at a higher level.

I like how if you skip the tutorial your under leveled for the area they drop you in and without any weapons. This makes it very hard to get started, especially for the new players not used to this game. Great choices lol.

Yeah. I understand why they changed it - they got almost universal feedback from betas that the starter islands were too small and didn't feel Elder Scrolls - but the replacement method does not work well for new players.

I sat with a bunch of casual players and watched them play Elder Scrolls Online recently, it was just too difficult for them. They all gave up. Zenimax tried to combat it by adding the kill log and on screen hints when you die. I think it's one of the primary problems and the console release will have.

I've been trying to finish off Craglorn in the last week, man some of those dungeons can't be rushed, was in some for a few hours. Craglorn took me a while to get into but if you get a good group it can be a blast.

Think I've done everything but the last upper Craglorn story mission.

Does anyone know how you get a nirnhoned item at the end of the quest line? Is it random or are you given a choice of items? If it's 1 item at random I'll be a little sad.

Some of the rewards from the quest dungeons are laughable. We did a 3 to 4 hour dungeon, must have used about 30 soul gems (we tried to 3 man some bosses with a vet3), spent 2K in repairs and our reward for killing the boss ... a green piece of armour, not even part of a set. I'm not bitter cos we all laughed about it but it certainly put me off doing it again. I'd love to keep doing them to help others but it's actually expensive!

Starting to get the hang of this. Doing the starting island helped a lot, but I still think Bethesda needs to not have quests show as scaled, when they clearly aren't. (Some of the faction quests did this, as well as fighters guild quests)

I ended up ditching my stealth character in favor of a heavy armor + two handed sword character. I'm thinking maybe a stealth + dagger character is a poor first class for this game.

This game is super comfy. I'm not big on the forest areas, but the beach areas are really nice.

I was having a hard time loving this game at first, but it's starting to get its hooks in me.

I chose a NB as my first Character. Was brutal doing the Mages Guild, Fighters Guild and main story. I'd recommend getting your skills up before tackling them. NB's have poor survivability early on in large mobs. I know they have Cloak but that's an escape move for a few seconds. Get yourself some Blue / Purple food before those, makes a big difference. Also try and have all your armor at your level.

The stealth of a NB is amazing when you want to avoid mobs or PvP players but as the game tunnels you into attacking things that wont die quick, it's becomes a hard life for the assassin. Would be great to sneak in, 1 hit kill the healer, stealth away, poison arrow the tank etc take them down 1 by 1 but it doesn't work that way. More like stealth in, crit hit enemy, 5 mobs hidden from view all run at you ... cry

I will say once you solo as a NB it makes playing as the other classes a lot of fun, feels easier :D

Glad you're enjoying it, been playing it a year and I'm still addicted

I have a templar at VR1 but it started feeling kind of tiresome. Biting Jabs is so effective against groups of mobs that using anything else just feels like I'm gimping myself, so gameplay mostly comes down to spamming that.

I've been trying out different builds and playstyles for my templar lately to get a good soloing build with great survivability that is also fun to play. I also wanted something that feels very paladin-ish in gameplay. All this time I've mainly been focusing on healing abilities to survive but I think that was the wrong approach, and too often required me to regularly stop damaging in order to get healed up.

It seems pure mitgation works a hell of a lot better. Fully clad in heavy armor, two-handed weapon, Brawler (Cleave morph) and Blazing Shield (Sun Shield Morph) gives me so mitgation I practically never have to worry about my health.

LiQuid!

I proudly and openly admit to wishing death upon the mothers of people I don't like
I assume controller support will be added to the PC version as well, yea? I've been playing FF14 for a couple months and have grown to love its controller support.

I've been pretty sure I was going to get this once the subscription was dropped since before the announcement was official. I think technically you can buy the game now and the free month that comes with it will last until Tamriel Unlimited starts? My current sub to FF14 is up in a couple days and was thinking about getting this early if that's the case. Eager for new MMO with less anime waifus.

I've seen Templars make great tanks. I've only rolled them as a healer but would be interesting to try this style.

I'll update the whole OT soon to reflect all the Tamriel Unlimited changes but also giving a bit more information on setting up controller support. It should have official support in future but they haven't promised anything.

March 17th is the official date for Tamriel Unlimited so you could buy the game now and never have to pay a sub. Although looking at the 4 rumored DLC locations you may eventually want that sub :D

How's this game for solo players? I'm thinking about buying it off GamesRocket while it's $17.95. I know it comes with 30 days for free, but will I be able to keep playing the game once it goes buy to play or will I need to repurchase it again?

The game is great for solo players, which is funny for an MMO :D but you will want to focus on skills rather than crafting to improve your survivability. Some open world bosses you might want to call out in chat or come back once you've levelled up, unless you play like a boss then just go fot it :D

If you buy it now with the 30 free days you'll be able to play it Buy2Play now.

I'm updating the OT front page for Tamriel Unlimited players. Anyone got any ideas of what things I should put up? There's so much I can talk about that I don't want to make it a wiki. What are the core things I should cover?

People who paid for subscription prior to the B2P transition will have all of their subscribed months tallied and converted into bonus microtransaction currency.

Put it this way - I played for a few hours today, I'm quite deep into the game, and I only saw one other player in several hours of play. I still had a ton of fun, and it didn't impact my gameplay at all.

When you get to the 'Veteran Rank' zones, after finishing the main story, you only see Veteran players - so frankly, some of those zones are pretty deserted right now.

That price is a bargain by the way. You won't have to pay subscription ever.
