What did you expect them to do with it? They couldn't publish it or get it promoted because a lot of the content was using assets and materials from other games. specifically from SNK fighters and action games.

It was a great game, and my personal favorite SOR title, but there wasn't much they could do with it.

Well it would have been nice if they didn't do ANYTHING with it :p

I agree. Honestly, all this stuff should be coming out to everything. M2 have clearly got some great tools to make games work across a huge amount of platforms - for them to only be on a 3DS is kind of frustrating.
M2 did Sega Ages, Sega Vintage Collection, Virtual Console, even with some of these same games. Stop making yourself frustrated and go buy thrm.

Meh....

Streets of Rage 1 was my favorite one!
SOR2>1 IMO after doing both recently on their hardest settings. While I won't argue with the music as both are great at it(though I preferred 2's a bit more), 2 has a better combat system, removing police cars mean each character had their own special moves, varied characters to play as when it comes to speed, power and balance, less exploitable with the single tap punch that can be used on nearly all enemies and bosses in 1, less glitchy, less cheap bullshit like enemies that can kill you instantly(I even have that recorded in my playthrough), most bosses at least had more patterns and more attacks instead of the usual same ones in 1(seriously, most bosses only have one freaking attack and pattern), better graphics obviously, less slowdown, Mania for that extra challenge, and more.

One of the few things better in 1 is team attacks though.

Funny that it's probably the greatest beat-em-up ever and one of my most played games and yet I'm kind of shrugging off this news. Not exactly a rare thing to play.

The 3D Classics have started adding new/alternate modes with new mechanics, so even if you ignore the 3D it probably won't be just another re-release.

The extra modes on the MegaDrive games tend to be pretty basic though, probably because they're really just romhacks. SOR1 only added a 1 hit mode iirc.

The Classification Board has just classified a game title ’3D Streets Of Rage 2′. Is it a new game? A 3DS game? A remake of the original for digital distribution? We have no idea at this stage, but have reached out to SEGA’s local representatives in an attempt to find out.

Most likely it’s a version of the original Streets of Rage 2. The reasoning for that is fairly simple: games usually go in for classification pretty close to the game’s release and there’s no way SEGA would quietly release a brand new Streets of Rage game. My guess is that it’ll be a version of the game released on the 3DS as opposed to a remake or a reworked version of the SEGA Mega Drive original, which is a little less exciting but far more likely given the circumstances.

Either way it’s good news. Streets Of Rage 2 is probably the best scrolling beat ‘em up game ever made, so I’m fairly keen to play it again on a handheld. Feels like a good place for it.

We’ll update once we hear from SEGA.

Heads up that Fantasy Zone is releasing on 3DS eShop on Thursday.

Really hope this'll mean a Wave 3, we should all spam M2's twitter with this game so it becomes a part of it

yoooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I hope M2 is still doing projects this slick years down the line.

Then again, there were the rumblings about more original games from them soooo

Sega just needs to hire them for something like a "Ultimate Genesis/Sega Master System Collection" for PS4 & Xbox One.

All they would have to do, is just take the ports that M2 themselves have done using the Sega Vintage Collection versions & the Sega Ages Online versions from PS3 & 360, & all of the 3D version of the games that they've done so far on the 3DS, & slap them onto one Blu-Ray disc. Not much work to be done.

And include other games like Shining Force 1 & 2 along with games like Phantasy Star I-IV.

Crazy idea: M2 should port these 3D Classics to VR devices (Morpheus and Oculus in particular). There wouldn't be any way to look around in first-person, but full screen-size immersion with 3D on top? I'd play OutRun that way and take my damn sweet time. Would also be marketable across PC and console platforms, perhaps with added options for multiplayer cross-platform.

Guys, we need 3D Power Drift. OutRunners is the Holy Grail, but I'd settle for a silver cup if that meant having the prototype arcade kart racer in my hands.

Cock Strain, Lifetime Warranty
3D Golden Axe
3D Phantasy Star IV
3D Virtua Fighter
3D Toe Jam & Earl
3D Alex Kidd
3D Sonic 2

let me give you my money

3D Outrunners

I would buy a 3D Outrunners so fucking hard, eshop would explode.

Alex Kidd and fun don't belong together IMO.
Unless you're saying: It's fun to throw Alex Kidd games in the garbage."

I can only assume he means Miracle World, aka the one that's actually fun.
In all seriousness, I enjoyed my run of Enchanted Castle, though Miracle World is the better game. We oughta get 3D Miracle World and maybe another Master System or Game Gear title, but it's Okunari's call based on sales (of the physical compilation as well).

M2 is godly, but it'll take a while to analyze the System 32 architecture before confidently remaking OutRunners by-eye...in 3D.

Too true.
IIRC I read an article on M2 and they talked about how hard it was to port Sonic 1 onto the 3DS.

Outrunners might be asking too much.

Hmm.
Bonanza Bros. 3D would be an acceptable consolation prize.

It was pretty tough for M2 to do Galaxy Force II from the Y-Board -- And System 32 is somewhat similar, but a lot more powerful obviously.

Such a Godly game.

Like Capcom's Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom and Shadow over Mystara, Revenge of Death Adder also had 4-player play.

Yes they have, and they've done a fanatstic job of what they've done. It's how Sega have been releasing them that's been kind of shit!

- Sega Release 4 Vintage Collections on XBLA - Streets of Rage Trilogy, Golden Axe Trilogy, Alex Kidd / Super Hang On / Revenge of Shinobi and Wonder Boy in Monster Land / Monster World / MW4.
- Of these collections, only the Alex Kidd & Wonder Boy bundles come to PSN, and as separate titles. Only the original, shit Backbone ports of Golden Axe & SoR2 are available.
- Toe Jam & Earl Duology comes to XBLA, not PSN.
- The Original Castle of Illusion M2 port gets released alongside the new remake... but only on PSN.
- M2 makes awesome, crazy ports of classics like Fantasy Zone, After Burner, etc. Only releases them on 3DS.

I mean at this point Sega has not commited ANYTHING to the Xbox One or PS4 regarding their massive, classic back catalog, and the only thing they've done on the Wii U is that Sonic Advance is coming to the GBA catalog.

Hell, they did a Japanese only, 3DS retail exclusive version of the Arcade Classics and M2 threw in the Master System 3D Space Harrier and Outrun just for shits and giggles.

I just want them to release the equivelant of their awesome PS2 compilations, but with English menus and thrown up digitally!

Edit: Ages ago I mocked these up when they started doing vintage collections:

Toe Jam & Earl duology IS available on PSN: https://store.sonyentertainmentnetw...earl/cid=EP0177-NPEJ00127_00-B000000000000365
The MD Castle of Illusion was only available for people who pre-ordered the remake, unfortunately.

Anyway, SoR2 for me is one of the best games of all time, I'm seriously considering buying a 3DS/2DS just because of this gem...

I just don't understand this either. I can't imagine that it 'd be costly to port those games & there are still enough fans around to make it profitable.
