Hard for me to say it's overused when Kojima is really the only one using this style, and even then you're also comparing slower cutscenes in MGS vs. the action scenes in Unity or UC3, so I don't really see them being better as opposed to just different due to the nature of the cutscenes.

Both Unity, UC3, and TLOU suffer the sudden transitions of gameplay into cutscenes though. You'll be exploring or running and out of nowhere a cutscene triggers without easing you into it, with completely different character placements and movements. In MGSV Kojima eliminated this kind of camera cut.

I think that is mostly the case because the cutscenes are not real time.
You can have much better camera control when the are .

In terms of a playable story sequence that uses cinematic camera angles.

Not that we've seen. Camera angle changes during cutscenes and melee takedowns but everything is pretty close to the character. No big God of War sweeping vista type shots.

It sounds good to me, nuanced and very believable. I can still tell the emotions the characters are feeling through their tone quite well.

But maybe it sounds terrible to someone who actually speaks German, idk.

Thank you. german voice acting is terrible sometimes (Delsin in infamous was.... not good). Well, think I am going to do my first run in english anyway.

What about something more akin to the
giraffe
sequence of prologue from TLoU?

Couldn't tell, I only watched a bit so as not to be spoiled. He was using a pistol and some sort of rifle. There was blood spatter from the shots but I don't think he used anything strong enough that would cause dismemberment

Okay thanks. I pre-ordered it on US store anyway just to be sure. The german PS blog refused to answer my question so I had already a suspicion

That is really jarring. Can't believe I never noticed that in the last of us. In both Unity and Uncharted 3 both games transition smoothly to gameplay from a cutscene, Unity especially, they don't do quick cuts into gameplay, really fast zoom ins during the start of the blackbox missions and the occasional short loading screen when a new scene is loading up but other than those exceptions the camera always follows the character into gameplay. In MGSV you see the problem of Snake sliding into place before the cutscene begins if he's not in the correct position.

MGSV has cuts to black as well when the location is changed. There are also quick cuts present in the game. Most noticeably in the ground zeroes mission.

I forgot about that chopper animation whenever you load up onto it. I do wish that was smoother even though it's still all in gameplay and not really a cutscene, which doesn't trigger until he leaves the chopper to look at Chico's tape.

The actual gameplay to full cutscene transitions are really nice though.

The end of that cutscene transitions into gameplay smoothly like the MGSV/ACU ones, so I think they're real-time.

To anyone who has played(or watched) it,

Is there any UC3-like desert moments?

That's all I want to know.

I'm 2 hours in and so far
it's just the London area you've seen in trailers.

I'll be finishing the game tomorrow night so I can be more definite then.

Looks like I'll be getting it here in Taiwan on the 18th due to the Chinese New Year holiday messing with store hours.

That's what the guy at the shop told me.

Him looking at Chico's tape is a cutscene, it's pause-able and can be skipped. And MGSV ones look nice if you're in the correct spot so that Snake doesn't do that strange walk in place thing.

They do it that way in the order because it's shot much more like an actual film would be in terms of cinematography. It also helps to avoid the animation transition issue seen above.

Anyone else kind of happy the game isn't striving for innovation and shit like that, or trying to be more "open"?

I just want a very solid, polished, third-person shooter with a great story. I know not many are talking about it in this thread- but while I do like innovation- sometimes... Some will no doubt disagree with me

But sometimes- innovation can just go and fuck off.

Can I switch shooting to R1 instead of default R2? I hate R2 as primary and can't play well with that. This should be default switchable on all shooters.

Not sure if you got an answer, but yes you can:

In addition to that (this is something not really in the tutorial), you can hold circle to move around the ends of cover to execute a 90 degree turn.

Also, for those that asked a few pages back, you can swap the triggers with the shoulder buttons, and swap the analog sticks, all available in the options.

In the options is also where (mentioning it again), you will find Camera Bias, which allows you to swap shoulders the camera is looking over. This is off by default, and once on, you activate it by pressing on the side of the touchpad you want the camera to move to. If you're fast enough, you can play a bit of camera pong. :D

You people have me on ignore, don't you?

Awwwww

I am really struggling with myself. Looks like there is an austrian online store that sends the game out already. But I kinda want to last the hype a little longer.

I'm trying to avoid watching any footage so i can go in fresh. I was wondering though:
- does this game have a 360 degrees free camera or is it a God of war kind of camera during gameplay?
- is there room for exploration and downtime in this game? Or is it guided from start to finish?

I love SP 3rd person adventure/shooter games similar to Uncharted. Is it comparable to Uncharted at all or is it a completely different game?

There are a few, like gamesonly and gameware, that already shipped the Steelbook edition (mine included) yesterday. So I will probably get it on monday.

Well for the first question, it's 360 degrees free camera" as you put it :) .

Lmao this just makes me think of the Bungie Halo3 Vidoc where they talk about how hard it is for their artists to construct these beautiful environments...only to have it all covered in boxes and random bits of cover. Still looks great though.

I know they have other areas with exposition and NPC's etc, but honestly I'd have preferred the scene above to look and play closer to the concept art. Though granted I can see the lure of wanting to use this space for combat instead.

- It's similar to Uncharted but I'd say the game is more like Gears of War, especially with the camera (stays close to the character and keeps him in one half of the screen), the violence level and the weighty punch of the guns.

- From what we've seen it's quite linear, again like the Gears games. Not much exploration, but there's definitely downtime where you're allowed to walk around areas and take in the scenery.

Not a direct criticism of the order, but am sooo sick of tps areas littered with conveniently placed waist high boxes to kneel behind, my what luck there is this crate dropped from the sky for me to stop and pop behind.

At least try and make the cover appear to be part of the environment.

Or better yet, make me hunt and seek cover as part of the gameplay, where I scramble for an aspect of safety under gunfire, where I need to weigh up each decision to move from relative safety to another vantage point.

Thanks Skux and flipswitch. Never played Gears of War but i have a feeling i'll prefer the camera to be further away while playing (like Uncharted). Still, very much looking forward to this.
