Completely off topic, but I just got $1000 dollars and first class upgrades from delta for staying back in Boston for 2 more nights. Guess I'm gonna be spending a lot more on expensive beer this weekend! :D
Go to the Phoenix landing in Cambridge. It's a cool pub frequented by college students and sports lovers. Pretty good food also!!

Are you getting held up with the weather system coming through? I've been in touch with someone who's stuck in New York trying to get back for work in Florida. Apparently not all the airports are on the same page.

Have you had the chance to play SF? They basically attempted that there with Maya. It was just a really ham-fisted execution on it, just in terms of story. You could imagine the writers waiting for the audience to gasp when they kept pointing out "but BOTH sides can be monsters!" I had high hopes because of the obvious Israeli/Palestinian conflict parallels. That was a bummer.
I played it, and that was pretty poor in execution like you said. My thinking is very different though. I meant instead of starting with whatever the name of the guy was in Killzone 2/3, and then moving in an uninspired direction with Shadow Fall, they should've planned a real story arc, and thrown us in there with some kind of half-Helghast soldier in Killzone 2. Imagine if you're a super soldier Helghast that can jump further. That one ability alone could allow the gameplay to change in certain ways.

You could begin on the Helghast side, before transitioning to ISA side in Killzone 2, and you have plenty of conflict to explore there internally. It's just a better position to start from in terms of character conflict, and since Killzone is all about the Helghast, it's not a bad idea to use that as a base for your protagonist either. And if you're a bit enhanced in terms of ability, it opens up a bit more in regards to gameplay, rather than keeping to the standard mechanics which are found in every FPS.

This is really a case of two very different visions really, so it's obvious why what I want didn't happen. It'd mean changing the game entirely in some ways. I still think it would've been better. Super soldier is generic, sure. But the backstory of the world, and making that protagonist a half-Helghast, allows you to move away from that. Add in one parent being human, and there's even more to play with in terms of loyalty and divides.

In an ideal world, I'd honestly make it a third person shooter starring a half-Helghast ninja who is adept with both knives, and guns, and I'd add some stealth elements. Like, what's in my mind right now, is so good and I'd probably love that game. Never going to happen though.

The stealth in Mercenary was actually great so I could see the knife/gun mix working very well

Imagine a game as one of the test-citizens for the Vektan augmentations when they were first settling in Vekta's environment. Like, one of the few surviving test subjects from the first efforts. A script where that character, knowing he's a symbol of his people, starts to have doubts because of what he's seen. I would throw money at a game.

I wasn't clear enough.
Not the entire gameplay aspect is on par with killzone.
Only the encounters in terms of level design and weapon placement.
Everything else with the order gameplay was solid.

You were clear enough. But you know how it is around here. 10 positives, a couple of negatives and people go bat shit over it. Word of advice, never compare games, especially if it's a negative. People associate them like bad memories

I thoroughly enjoyed KZ:SF and it's encounters.
The comparison to me is a positive, AAA first class shooter with eye-popping graphics.
I purchased KZ:SF for $40 though at launch, with BB's 3/$120 deal.
And KZ:SF had a mp element (bots no less.)

As good as TO:1886 might be, I can't bring my cheapass to spend $60 on a sp game that I probably will only play through once.
$39.99...yea probably.

That's a really good angle to come at it from.

If you use that angle, you could even go the route of having another one of the survivors be a friend who you ultimately betray (adding further conflict) or simply someone who was always an enemy and becomes somewhat of a constant opponent once you go to the other side. One super soldier against another, and two different extremes. Or the other one could be the ultimate villain. More brutal, more talented, and ultimately someone who gains more power after your betrayal, and the death of that one final boss in Killzone 2. This is more of a generic overview, but you can bring in the good elements in the detail.

There's a lot of good backstory in the Killzone franchise, but they pretty much went the most uninspired way in terms of executing on it. Super ninja Helghast soldier. I didn't ask for much. Just a lot.

Thanks! Will check it out

I'm literally on the last flight after which all flights out of here are cancelled till Monday. So they were overbooked. They expect a foot of snow at least.

Did you rob the receptionist at gun point?

Not at gun point. But my Lafayette charm worked wonders

My biggest worry is the ending. Uncharted 3 was such an amazing ride that went down the tubes with the lackluster conclusion. I hope they give you something to latch onto.

What is this...? Why is this so personal to you Thuway? why even entertain the trolls? :/
I'm not entertaining the trolls. I have friends who are journalists who told me they heard the game is 4 hours long. I called earlier this week to a game store in the Seattle area, the worker on the phone told me the game is 90% cutscenes and short. So I just wanted to dispel the myth of that. In any case, I posted the latest impressions up the good and the bad.

Also can we stop talking about my twitter here? We can take it to pm. Thanks.

So Abraham the vampire hunter is on tv...good movie to get in the mood for the game?

Not a game spoiler:
I know the reviews suck for the movie

It should've went for a Last Crusade ending where Drake overcomes puzzles to save Sully or something equally intimate.

Instead it's the exact same ending as 2, how'd they let that happen I'll never know.

I was just watching more gameplay on Youtube and I still cannot believe how good this game looks. It's just astoundingly good looking.

It sounds like this game will get mostly 7s and some 8s scores. So yeah, it definitely is not bad for RaD's first AAA game on a console.
In your head? What sounds like this? It's such a guess. You make it sound like it's 99% certain.
Even if it turns out that you were right, it's still a wild guess. What are the variables that make you give a number that is so definitive for you?

Why do you care though? People spread nonsense about everything. Titanfall is call of duty with mechs, ps4 has no gamez, XB1 is only capable of 720p graphics, etc.... Do you work for Rad or Sony or something?

Just drown out the noise and enjoy the game.

The game looks ace to me, some people will troll it and some people will legitimately have no interest in this style of game. Who cares what those people think?
