Yeah well did anyone actually use it? I mean the XB1's service actually gets some usage judging by my friends list, I don't see the appeal in that either, but Nintendo's seemed like it was trying to be a bit more than a TV service and remained not very appealing. Probably just a demographic thing idk

Oh nooo, what will I do now???

Wait, I haven't watched any TV for 10 years or so. What's TV? Is that some crap, that people used before the internet?

Wasn't the TVii feature also advertised in the EU? I wonder if Nintendo will get sued for this.

please, this isn't the US. it would get thrown out so fast.

Anyway, a bit of a shame. It might have been a useful feature, but I never got to try it. Maybe it will be to Nintendo's advantage in the end. The Nintendo Anime channel might be a better idea anyway.

I actually liked it kinda. On shows with high viewing it was fun to comment on scenes and what not. Ruined by the slow OS tho. That OS made using it unbearable.

Shame. Seemed like a cool feature. On the other hand, I don't have a TV subscription.

So, really, nothing more than a small tv guide app.

Well, to be fair, from what I saw it also had a real-time social aspect to it. Like, "comment on this screengrab of the scene you just watched". Not sure how useful that turned out to be.

So THIS is what my WiiU was talking about when it asked me if I wanted it to sync with the TV...or is that something different?

That's also for something different. Even without the TVii service, you can still use the Gamepad as a remote for your TV.

What did this do again?

It was tv guide that used the ir blaster to change the channel if you chose a tv source, or would launch hulu/netflix if you selected something on those services.

So, really, nothing more than a small tv guide app.

Well, I really hope they officially kill it in NA too so they release an update and we can get rid of that stupid and useless app.

That's for the built in remote control function. Your wii gamepad can act like a huge remote for your tv. The channel changing part of tvii used it.

You guys won out with Anime Channel. If that comes to the Wii U, even better. The only point of it is if you're watching baseball, football or basketball. How much do you really want that in Europe?

Really? I was under the assumptions consumer protections were stronger in Europe than America.

But it all depends on if the advertised it I suppose.

Consumer protection might actually be stronger here, but Europe isn't quite as litigious. (Sweeping generalisations ahoy!)

I hope it does. Seems lame they're offering a 3DS app as some sort of a replacement for this cancelled Wii U feature. Oh well, I suppose the PR tried their best when writing this press release.

I remember how awful that Reggie Asks segment for TVii was. Still no idea what it does.

Don't all Wii U gamepads have a TV button on them? What a remnant that became.

Well the TV button switches the gamepad into a universal TV remote which is quite useful, but there has been a TVii icon on the home screen since day one.

Also... I am still waiting for my iPlayer app for Wii U. I bet an intern could havbe made it in a week, but 3 years on...

well i am quite happy wiiu has crunchyroll, a great internet browser to watch youtube on and anime channel. dunno what tvii would have been able to bring to the table.

NOE!!!!!!!!

Why does NOA always get the good stuff
/s

Not that surprising, really. I'm surprised they kept up the pretence for so long.

Wat.

You guys get this thing:

Because Reggie and Co. across the pond thought that our big, American hands couldn't tolerate using the smaller version! (also because they couldn't work out a deal regarding faceplates with GameStop and other reasons...)

EDIT: I didn't see the /s... But still, my statement stands! :O

Can imagine that, but Europe is plain chaos with these services. Netflix started last year in Germany(one of the biggest markets), Hulu Plus is nowhere available etc etc...
