IGN first: The weapons of Bloodborne

Can't handle all this bad ass. The music, the animations and those transforming weapons. God it looks incredible. I'm liking the look of the hammer.

Yeah, this will do. I really hope there's no technical/bug issues with this game, I mean, the art is there, the music, the weapons, etc... This could be the first true "must own" game for this gen. And that's coming from someone with a love/hate relationship with Souls.

What a year though; Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, and Battlefronts? Yes plz.

The dude is the baddest of asses.

I'm probably going to be boring and start my first character with a reliable saw cleaver or axe.

God damn I really really hope the final game has good IQ. The art deserves it.

For anyone that says the animations are janky: The Souls games allow you to cancel animations and start other moves, it keeps the game feeling fast and fluid. If you cancel an animation, it's going to look janky, this is a fact.

It's a case of gameplay > graphics.

Yeah, I'll play it safe in the first play through. I'll go for the gunslinger build later.

I'm glad to see that the environment has some consistency. I'm playing Dark Souls 2 and the environments are a travesty. I can't believe it.

Lots of people are gonna get OWNED without magic and soul arrows.
GOOD. PvP was a mess with all those magic spammers in the Souls' games.
...on the other hand, let's not be too quick to rule out magic altogether. I have a feeling From still has something to show off before the release of this game.

Yeah it was pretty damn bad.

I think it will still make some sort of appearance though.

I think this video just sold me on the game. This looks like some fresh weapon types, love the transformations too. Looks like timing is key, which is pretty compelling to me as well.

The best part is that still so much info is hidden at this point, the range of stats we know about already pretty much guarantees that there are a bunch of systems that remain under wraps.

It seems pretty obvious to me that there's going to be substantially more to combat than what's been shown so far, which I think has been very carefully cherry-picked to highlight how the style of the action is much more aggressive than in previous games.

That new(?) hat though.

Imagine the fashion duels if we can tip our hats. Shrugging those cloaks, tipping those hats and bowing like gentlemen.

I have a few questions about Bloodborne --

How will item availability be in this game, I wonder, since the weapons seem to be so unique?

Will there be, for example, 10-20 different types of whipblades, 10-20 swordhammers, etc. or will there only be 10 different, base weapons that you upgrade throughout? Will there be leather armor, light armor, medium armor, heavy armor, or just clothes? How many equipment slots will there be?

Gathering loot and becoming more powerful was one of the most enjoyable aspects of Demons Souls and Dark Souls.

We won't know the answer to the first question until the game is out. My guess is that the number of weapons will be ~halved if they're all trick weapons like the ones that have been shown since they're essentially two weapons, and I imagine programming the functionality and movesets for each is alot of work.

For armor, pretty sure they've said light clothes/armor only, but they also said no shields for a long time so who knows.

Equipment slots is the same as the Souls games. Head, chest, gloves, legs. 2 slots for weapons per arm. I don't think we've seen any slots for rings or the such, but I'm sure they'll be there.

No Souls game has had that many weapons in one category afaik. Probably there will be fewer total weapons in BB, but with perhaps more variation and less derivatives. From have said you can upgrade weapons by doing the Chalice Dungeons, but I haven't read much about it and don't know if there are other ways to upgrade them. In one trailer a player's saw cleaver definitely had some lightning/electrical effect.

I think it's been said there will be no heavy armor, and I think one IGN first video showed equipment slots.
