Squids apparently love fashion. It says something about this shoe brand (aroma?).

From what I understand, it just states that there are multiple clothing brands in the Inkling world. For example, the sportswear are the Arome brand. Stylish high-tech shoes are being shipped (?).

The last sentence is the most interesting one, but it's beyond my understanding >.< It mentions identical brands (maybe giving brand-specific bonusses like TWEWY, but this is just speculation).

I almost thought that was a real shoe. Is that taken directly from in game?
You can almost count the polygons (mainly the sole and the black thingy on the back), so yes, it is taken directly from the game ;)

Is this game similar to Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare? (i.e. online 3rd person shooter, different class with different abilities, different game modes, etc)

I'll definitely do some research on the game on my own, but I wanted to ask good guy GAF first. I absolutely adored PvZ, so I have hopes this game will be in the same vein.

No, the game looks bad. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but the multiplayer is literally just seeing who can paint the map the most.

My take:

There are fashion brands in the Inkling world, just like we have in ours
This is a sports brand called 'Arome'.
They develop stylish, hi-tech shoes.
Whether they combine gear from the same brand, or mix and match, Inklings enjoy coordinating their outfits.

Its an online shooter where you can "kill" your opponents but you don't really gain anything by doing so besides perhaps slowing enemy territory gains. The real objective of the game is territory grabbing.

All sorts of weapons that range from offensive to more defensive style etc. Customizable gear that provides bonuses and the gear itself can upgrade via play etc.

One additional tweet today, though not about the game itself it seems.

In the old days, you'd probably encounter written characters in squid ink. But squid ink tends to turn transparent in strong sunlight.

We call the colour of fading pictures 'sepia', but sepia is a squid ink thing too.

It's romantic to hear 'sepia-toned memories', but imagine 'squid-ink-toned memories'... somehow seems kinda disappointing.

From here on in, we'll be introducing weapons you use in battle.

This is the Super-Shooter.

Power. Range. Rapid-fire ability. It's a balanced weapon that can deal reliably with all kinds of situations. You might say it's the kind of weapon that anyone can use inexpensively - the ultimate standard-issue weapon.

My translation:
We'll introduce some of the weapons you can use in battle.
This is called the "Splashooter".
The strength, range, and firing-rate are well balanced and useful in a variety of situations.
It's easy to use for just about everyone; you might even call it the standard weapon.

I think it´s a play on words, in spanish "sepia" is also a kind of squid. It´s a typical dish on the region I live, which is kinda funny because "sepia" only live at the sea and this city is in the interior :S

Yesterday my older brother asked me "when do Splatoon release again?"
Which is funny since he isnt much of a gamer at all, so I found it really odd haha

Anyway, I cant wait for them to explain more about the paintbrush weapon. Seems really different from the rest...

So have any people thought about game modes Splatoon Devs should be thinking about

Splatoon Modes Ideas

4 Person Free For All - the goal is to color the most area during designated time, each player is penalized heavily if he kills one of the other players while inking up the place. This will provide a different mechanic where certain players will focus on trying to ink up the environment while others try to get hit on purpose. Players see score in real time thus 3 people are able to group against one and try to get him penalized by trying to get hit by his ink.

Traversal Trials - Pretty much capture the flag in a randomly generated environment, where the different traversal mechanics are introduced and whoever captures the flag first/arrives at a particular check point wins. Since we have seen some additional environments and elements in the SP, those should be used here(pipes, obstacles, platforming). People are able to get hit and restart the course, but only long range weapons which require multiple hits for a kill are permitted.

Maze - Randomly generated maze where the opponents need to get to the center and retrieve an item. Once they have the item they need to return to an entrance in order to win. But you can only traverse ground you've already inked yourself and cannot ink while carrying the item. All players are able to see the maze and colors during the game unless they are inside the center/carrying the item. You can drop the item in order to fight or ink the maze path, but when you pick it up again the map/coloring of the map dissapears - so you have no way of knowing if someone is approaching you while caring the item.

Hide and Seek - One person is able to shoot during this mode, but they have limited ink. The map starts in the color of the person who is searching. Other players are able to color the terrain as they move through it but the person searching is able to view the whole map and its is colored. So if you run into the person who is searching while coloring in squid mode you're toast, but if you color some parts and than hide further behind they might shoot into nothing. The people hiding have a 10 second head start to color some of the terrain before the person searching is deployed.

Those would be dope as hell to me - wonder if such modes would be played in a TPS

It's the age of DLC, I'd pay to play a mode that's a bit more creative and utilizes the inherent game mechanics of Splatoon(so no to Deathmatch from me).

It's just a matter of the dev team behind this to actually provide an avenue for feedback from the Audience. If just a few good ideas make it into the game eventually it would just make it much more replayable. Perhaps provide this to the Indie Devs and allow them to monetizeustom modes they create for Splatoon($2-5 per mode or something like that) c via the eShop for example.

Also I don't think that having one mode is confirmed by the devs, I wouldn't be surprised for there to be more modes just not as competitive.

It's obviously my opinion and probably not what Nintendo will do but I can help but have hope and provide feedback if they have an official channel/

This just in! Apparently there are a lot of highly reputable fashion brands in Inkling society. Some Inklings like to wear gear that’s all the same brand, while others like to mix and match to create their own custom style. Whatever sinks your boat!

Squid Research Labs Special Report:
Our findings indicate that roller weapons excel at inking territory while on the move, but they can also fling ink in a wide arc. Flinging ink is a short-range attack to be sure, but it can be quite a powerful tactic. Interestingly enough, a statistically significant percentage of test subjects reported that switching between flinging ink and rolling ink on the ground is more satisfying than one might think!

The Birthday Skeleton
The first one seems to be the start of the Hero mode and the second one a stage from it? Waiting for the translations ...

Just caught this before bed:
This is 'Octo Valley' - the starting point for Hero Mode.
Cap'n Cuttlefish lives here watching over the Octarians.
He's not lonely, though. Heroes are destined to live a life of solitude.
He tells you that he hasn't seen his grandchild recently...without you even needing to ask.

The Octarians live under the ground in Octo Valley.
Connecting their headquarters to the surface is this kettle-shaped transportation device.
Undoubtedly, the Octarians have set a trap and now lay in wait.
No time for carelessness! Ah, if only I was a little bit younger!

There's a problem with that: If you've got four players, if one player kills another, two players are penalised; the killer gets penalised, as you say, but also the dead player is out of action for however long - meaning in such a situation, both those players lose out, and the other two reap benefits.

Might be better as a 2v2 team game, with one painter and one blocker on each team.

Calling it now: Dark Octo Girl is his grandchild.

Somehow.

Don't ask how the genetics work.

Thanks for the translations as usual.
"kettle-shaped transportation device". How do they come up with it.

Crazy science makes everything work.... somehow

I wouldn't be surprised. Maybe she was "octofied".or perhaps his grandchild is the octo leader. (or both)
Anyway. No wonder he's not lonely!

Boom! We’ve got some breaking news about one of the weapons used in Turf War battles. This here is the Splattershot! We’ve heard that it strikes the perfect balance between power, range, and rate of fire, making it the ultimate all-arounder. Easy to use but highly effective, it’s apparently the gold standard against which all other weapons are measured!

Another slow day here in the lab, so in lieu of any breaking news, I thought of a sweet squid knowledge bomb to drop on y’all! Back in the day, people used to use squid ink to write letters and such, but sunlight would fade the ink and cause it to turn light brown in color. Photos with a similarly faded-brown palette are called “sepia tone,” but the word “sepia” actually refers to a type of squid! The idea of sepia-toned memories sure sounds romantic, but faded-squid-ink-colored memories doesn’t have quite the same ring to it, does it…

You were right, Sepia is a kind of squid! Learning erryday. And the Splattershot is a great name
