Just got home from a walk. Reading the short story now.

Also, confirmation that you can change the time of day by interacting with a Rest Spot.

Weather effects include Fair, Cloudy, Rain, Thunder & Lightning, Aurora, Rainbow and continent-specific effects like Sandstorms and Heatwaves.

Lao (Voice: Keiji Fujihara)
One of B.L.A.D.E.'s team leaders.
His fighting strength and intuition is admired even by Elma.
He is unexpectedly sensitive and passionate to his core.
He is buddy of Douglas from their days in the US military.

Douglas (Voice: Rikiya Koyama)
A member of B.L.A.D.E. He is proficient at all military skills, but especially adept at piloting Dolls.
Despite his stern-looking exterior, he is easy to make fun of; Lyn will often poke fun at his mistakes during Doll test flights.
On Earth, he served under Elma as part of the Unified Government's Vehicle Special Ops Force (also known as the Doll Team).
He is buddy of Lao from their days in the US military.

Cool that they added new weather effects this time around. Though the heatwaves in the previous Xenoblade made me felt dizzy the first time around lol.

It's good to see some new info is up on the site. I see the game has shot up to #9 on the latest top 30 Famitsu most wanted software chart. It may not mean much in terms of actual sales, but it's nice to see that some Japanese consumers acknowledge this game apparent greatness in the making.

Yeah I really loved the idea of having a strong female MC but this just kills it... whyyyyyyy....

EDIT: A few quick guesses with regards to weather/status changes.

Fair, Cloudy, Rain, Thunder & Lightning - nothing much, just different kinds of monsters popping out.
Aurora - doll function impaired because of electromagnetic storm
Rainbow - magic buff?
Sandstorms - reduced range attack hit rate?
Heatwaves - increased cooldown times (lol)

Does that girly run animation piss anyone else off?

It's rather odd - I registered it immediately in this trailer, yet not at all in three quarters of an hour's worth of space rihanna treehouse footage. Maybe because in this new clip the character is more petite and it appears exaggerated?

You're right... The animation is probably only for the 'young female' model choice. Space rihanna is middle-aged female I think. So I guess I can have my MC after all.

Lao looks much better now compared to the initial trailers. I'm not really a fan of his default armour, though - while it thankfully doesn't suffer from the same overdesigned MMO aesthetic as the heavy equipment from the first game and Douglas' armour; its lack of contour and detail detracts from the design. Compared to something similar in concept, such as Raiden's MGS2 suit, it's apparent that accentuating anatomical detail can vastly improve these kinds of designs; especially when the alternative is a flat, static and uninteresting form.

It looks pretty bad, and the idle animation seems even worse. I hope that's only one of a few different animation options, otherwise I probably won't go with a female avatar.

Such a minor detail about the running animation. That kind of thing doesn't bother me what so ever.

On another note, I think Lao also borrows a lot from PSO2's Hunter character.

Man, Elma is such a big dick OG in X, im super glad, she is a woman in a position of power, she is also black(?), she is the complete opposite of heros in video games today.

How can you guys be 'pissed off' at the run animation, thats such a weird, minor thing to be so much as pissed off about, its probably a specific animation for like one of the voices/personalities you can choose from for your character.

Not just the running animation itself - if it and the idle are indicative of the style for all animations available to the female avatar, it'd defeat the point of the avatar I'd rather play as. Though there probably are more choices - as others have said, it's more likely they're tied to the body type chosen.

Personally I'm not fussed but I can see how people could be. It'd be a shame to put effort into designing a serious-looking, battle hardened warrior woman and then watch her spring to life with an "oh my goodness it's so hard to run in these heels" animation (note: I exaggerate, the animation in today's video isn't that bad).

See, as you say it's probably an option - but if it's not I'll be entirely sympathetic with those who dislike it.

Edit: maybe they did this on purpose so people would stop going on about the faces for five minutes

今回XenobladeXでは天候によってもバトルに影響する効果を足してみました。絵的な変化だけでなく、ゲームプレイの戦略に加えたかったんです。天候変化の頻度調整はなかなか骨の折れる仕事でしたが…。

I feel like video updates should get their own threads.

I don't know. This video update is just different avatars running for two minutes in environments we've already seen. It doesn't really present much new except most customization options and more examples of female avatars running. There's not much to discuss about the video while the website update is much more informative.

New twitter updates. Thanks!

Rough translation seems to be about the weather effects in Xenoblade X. It looks to add more to the battle rather than just enemy change in the previous Xenoblade.

Two comments from Kojima saying that "enemy placement depending on the time of day was already a feature in Xenoblade, but for Xenoblade X we also added effects that impact how battles play out depending on the weather. We wanted to make it more than just a visual change and actually have it add strategy to the gameplay. It was really hard to balance the frequency of weather changes though..."

The reason why I'm (only mildly) pissed is because the animation will be tied to the character model/age. I really like the base look of 'twin tails' and it's my guess that the girly animation we saw corresponds to the 3-4 young girls types of which 'twin tails' is one of.

It just seems like a really klutzy way of running and it annoys me because it makes my MC seem less fit when I'd like to see a protagonist hold her own. But as I was reminded, Space Rihanna doesn't run like that, and probably we'd be able to choose one of the other models if we don't like the animation.

But I do think animation choice is tied to the model as there is no option in the character design screen.

Would the idle and slow running animations tied to the voice/personality of the avatar?

I think voice is freely interchangeable from the model.

Oh snap, it worked!

Cheers! Added that to the OP!

From early shots of the game before we were shown that the MC is customizable I had hoped that (who has now turned out to be) Lao was the MC.

the thing about that is why is Elma out in the field alone unlocking a nobody like Cross?

She isnt just unlocking cross, cross just happen to be the person she finds, but her main objective and finding as many people as she can, and its assumed that alot of BLADE is doing that beyond policing. From what we know they were already in these positions on earth, its when they had to evacuate that their roles changed to things such as rescuing and recruiting and such.

it just seems like her rank is too high to be out and about with you in your party
from the backstory of everyone else that knows her it feels like she would be in the tower

As you pointed out before, Elma is again the Japanese trope of black person with white hair

I have been trying to find the origin of this design choice for years and had no luck so far

but manga and anime often has this type of character I love Elma being in this game tho
now I can even make my own black main without having to fall back on white hair lol

this pleases me :3

Horizon's avatar seems more perverted than usual, it also seems less lucina than usuall.
Haha I've been watching a bit too much kancolle
And I'll switch to Lucina after I get her amiibo or figma.

Back on topic, I really hope we get some kind of special edition. I'd get one if they put in an art book with all the works they've shown so far. Throw in a soundtrack Cd and it'll be godly.
