Who wants a Banjo without the talent behind it? It's dead, get over it. Playtonic Games is where it's at now.

Conker by Insomniac?
The guys who did Sunset Overdrive? With their subtlety?
Why not ask the Family Guy's writers to make a sequel to a Hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy?
Dodged a bullet for sure.
We need more JFG though.

Never in the history of videogames have new people tackled someone else's IP successfully, right?

Meanwhile, Playtonic games is just a very small bunch of people (without a major publisher funding them), being partially responsible for some success way over a decade ago. It totally never went wrong putting hope in something like that. Just look at the beautifully shitty Batman game the ,,talent behind Metroid Prime'' gave us, for example. lol. Look how the ,,mastermind behind Deus Ex'' gave people the horrid Epic Mickey 2, while other people actually made a new critically acclaimed title in the former series.

All you need to people like that are two words:

Killer Instinct.

Done.

Ah yes a rushed old IP revival surely would have guaranteed quality!
And MSFT sure has a history of handling their IP in a respectful and professional manner.
At this point Killer Instinct is the odd one out instead of a trend.
And no need to shit on Playtronic, they've just started.
They can end up like Retro Studio (ex Iguana guys) or they can end up like Molyneux.

?

Kampheld is an indie developer. If he's claiming to have worked on Crackdown, that's bullshit. Did he actually claim to have worked/be working on Crackdown?

Yup.

Edit: to be totally fair somewhere along the lines he admitted he had stopped work on his indie game and started working on Crackdown (but not at clouding as he himself posted), so when you vetted him as an Indie developer that was the case.

He never claimed outright but it seemed to be implied in a bunch of places...

"Maybe I can show u a small tech snippet within the next few weeks [...] your local gaming mashine does not have enough calculation power to run our game engine" (emphasis mine)

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=148933838&postcount=307
"It's up to us to deliver on your bolded sentence"

And of course the threads asking for feedback on the Crackdown IP and such.

I'd like to take the opportunity to state that Kampfheld is not a dev working on the next Crackdown, or is in any way associated with Cloudgine. I very rarely post in forums, and won't comment again, but as the co-founder of Cloudgine I can 100% state that all his comments should be ignored. Mods can feel free to reach out to me to verify.

Dave Jones, Cloudgine

You might not comment again, but will you at least give me an early beta of Crackdown?

worth a try

I'd guess if he was right with everything he said, until E3 ;).

He got a job offer to work on a new game and gave the hint something to do with orbs and said his indie game was cancelled, and has since been in the crackdown official topic posting in ways that suggest he is working on CD.

I don't get why he got banned tbh, why not ask him to verify his position working on CD? At least he should be allowed until anything he says turns out BS imo, everything he's said so far has came true and he's gave dates (e3 for banjo), so it's not like he can use the excuse "yeah it won't be announced until a later date".. A ban seems a bit harsh for now.

Ironic, considering Naughty Dog once called you out for something "similar"

Before that he was implying he was tight with the Preview Dashboard team and passing on details to them.
Before that he was an indie dev working on a game that might use the cloud.

Im pretty sure anyone with access to a dev kit knows the roadmap for OS updates.

When I downloaded the leaked SDK, there was a link to look at it, when I clicked it, it wanted me to login which I obviously couldn't do... I don't think he needs to be tight with anyone as long as he has a dev kit.

There's no trend or rule, it could go either way. That's the point. But relying solely on crude name dropping of a few alleged ,,former greats'' for a project backfires way too often (and not only in games either).
In the end I'd be more hopeful for a 3D platformer fully funded by one of the big publishers (and hopefully developed by an ambitious team), even with a new team, over hailing some indie group as the second coming, based on absolutely nothing but a few namedrops. Of which several were also still responsible for the not-so-great Rare catalogue during Microsoft days anyway...

Wasn't Haze Free Radical? The guys behind Time Splitter franchise?
I mean I'm all for shitting on ex Rare guys but I mean let's not confuse everything.

MSFT have trend of mishandling their IP, I wouldn't trust them on a minesweeper reboot.

I'm a vetted 'outsider' so if you need the outside scoop you can trust me.
lol this guy. typical attention seeking.

speaking as someone who follows numerous industry figures on twitter, you can rely on me to read between the lines of their posts and craft a compelling narrative on the inner workings of game development hirings/firings based on my preconceived assumptions.

Free Radical were formed of ex-Perfect Dark developers.

Exactly and they did Time Splitters and they had major dev problems and publisher's meddling for Haze.
I'm not saying it wasn't their fault, I'm saying that exRare guys don't mean crap.

That's on an organisational level, on which they gave projects to Rare no one ever wanted. We don't know whether a real Banjo platformer would be shit as an actual game, if they now finally decided to give in and make it.

He was in touch with the engineers and passing information to them, allegedly.

I don't know anything about this Khampfield dude, but couldn't he possibly be at MS Studios working on it in some capacity. He doesn't have to be at Cloudgine. I'm sure Dave Jones is correct with his statement saying he's not a Cloudgine employee but I don't know if he would know every MS employee working on it in Redmond.

And who's to say that they won't meddle or rush it?
They wanted to rush Conker out the door by giving it the lowest bidder like it was some shit they had to scrap off the bottom drawer.
Sure if MSFT managed to have EAD Tokyo work on the remake and they push it on PC with infinite money it's going to be the best game ever.
Killer Instinct is really a funny example too, I mean we're talking about a project with people who worked on Green Lantern, Front Mission Evolved and Silent Homecoming.
With a pedigree like that you don't expect them to make something as good as it is.
Considering how 343i handled Halo, I wouldn't expect Killer Instinct the norm more than everything else they did.
From the exRare guys making a 3D platformer, we have nothing except that they're working indie and the music will be incredible.
I'll go with the guys with the awesome music thank you.
