Thanks Jibbed! Sounds like they're really up shit creek.

Quite windy down here, but nothing too bad. Have to say, the Sauber livery looks wonderfully retro in person. Ugliest thing about it is the giant numbers near the side pods.

adamcooperF1: Looks like we will be coming back to court again on Saturday morning...
adamcooperF1: Intriguingly VDG's man says there have been "constructive discussions between the parties which are expected to continue this evening"
adamcooperF1: So it's over for today - and we're back at 0930 Saturday for more. But clearly the two sides are talking now...
adamcooperF1: Bottom line is both sides are talking - so the threat of bailiffs entering the paddock to seize the cars has receded

Awww, too bad, would've loved to see Monisha in handcuffs... :(

What are the odds of that Honda-engine lasting a race distance this weekend?

First race with an engine that has already seemed to be unreliable during testing? I have severe doubts. I suspect that Mags will bin it into a wall (possibly due to mechanical failure) and Button will either perform super poorly due to engine malfunction or have a straight up failure into a DNF. Would not be surprised if at least one for the cars doesn't even get off the start line.
Would love for this not to be true. Also, imagine if Mags somehow got a podium. The salt would be glorious!

What is the Virtual Safety Car?

All cars must slow to a speed equivalent to being behind the safety car. Basically to slow everyone down quickly and more easily than a real safety car. When the incident is clear everyone can carry on.

No unlapping, no catching the pack up, no eliminating a gap between drivers.

Hopefully it gets a lot of use this year.

Minardi-Honda LOL

4 seconds off the pace. 4 fucking seconds. And I thought Fred was leaving incompetent fools behind him, but actually it seems like they followed him to Minardi :/

They said they wanted to challenge Mercedes at the end of the year for wins and podiums - yeah, that will totally happen, they'll find 4-5 seconds in no time :(

So it will take a bit of time for McLaren to get up to full speed. Sure. But while they do, everyone else is going to be improving too. So there's been no significant benefit at all from McLaren moving to Honda for this year at least.

Said it before; they had the best engine last year with the Merc unit and they were still shit. This year they come in with a new engine supplier who has to catch up and people were expecting them to suddenly turn around?

People were too busy romanticising the old Mclaren / Honda days and ignoring the reality; Honda was also recently supplying engines a few years back and they were going nowhere. Anyone expecting anything more thna best of the rest from them is dreaming.

Will they wait until Illien updates or manufacturer change is already on the cards?

Want to know how bad it is for McLaren-Honda? Button: “I’m hoping it won’t be last row of the grid. Hopefully 20 cars will run.”

And they wanted to start the season, where they ended in 2014, so as a 3rd-4th team :(

Wow Red Bull throwing Renault under the bus
Renault really have been quite pathetic since before the new engines were on the cards. What the fuck were they doing development-wise that caused Mercedes to have such an advantage two years in a row?

I just feel sorry for Danny. Last year he has to deal with that fuel thing, this year the same old Renault shitshow. Who else is running them this year?

What. I haven't seen a single car on track yet and it is already more exciting than anything.

2 teams probably folding, Honda sucking, Mercedes improving the gap and probably the only team that can run this season with only 4 engines. Sounds exciting.

What are the penalties for using more than the allocation of engines? Can see McLaren chewing through their allotment pretty damn quickly

You know what? This season is going to suck.

Nope. It's going to be better than the last season. Hamilton vs Rosberg, Round two. Ferrari's rise to glory, McLaren's shit show (resulting in Alonso's mental breakdown, Sauber, Manor and Caterham leaving.

It's going to be all kinds of great.

Agreed, only exciting thing about this season right now is the possibility of bailiffs showing up mid race to take away Sauber's equipment.

Well yeah, that is what I was trying to say was exciting. This kind of drama is pretty funny in sports.

I tapped out at just after 2am in FP1 - but I heard Sky mention that Renault were at least 70hp down on the Merc. That is insane.
