Steven Universe |OT| Truly, Truly, Truly Outrageous

And you were saying last week that CN was afraid to show this stuff. :p

Of course.
:p
They still pussy footed around that particular Clarence scene by making it an air kiss rather than the real kiss on the lips that the creators wanted.
And again...it was only a seconds long gag that wasn't even that important to the story yet CN was still afraid that somebody might go ballistic if they saw it.
I'm assuming the only reason CN is ok with the Ruby and Sapphire relationship is because it's a lot more alien and subtle to random viewers (seeing as they're literally melding together and ruby is kind of masculine looking) than two cute well-dressed human guys kissing each other before their date while the music goes "love is love, lovely love!".

Going by how they reacted to that situation I'm still not convinced that they're even ready to take baby steps towards gender stuff yet.
That's just one of the reasons why it was weird to me that people would think Pearl was a boy (in both her pilot form and current one)...she'd be like a 8 or 9 on the femininity scale if she was a male character for most people, and I don't think CN is having that unless she was a bad guy like HIM.

Edit: They're definitely taking baby steps towards being more LGBT friendly, and I won't deny that.

That was a sweet episode and the ending was nice. Connie and Steven care so much about each other, it's adorable.
Poor Greg ha . Also loved the part where Peal and Amethyst were discussing about placing a barb wire fence or a moat. Trust that Amethyst wants to be a crocodile in it.

Steven almost took a hard right turn into Gotham there. That was nearly heartbreaking, but thank god the kid learned the full lesson before the end.

Fuckin Ronaldo, lmao

The point still gets across regardless of the type of kiss. Not to mention one of the character's parents are lesbians. Which they have no problem making an episode about.

and concerning Pearl, she was the most androgynous looking compared to Amethyst and Garnet and compared to her final design. Feminine yes but also fairly androgynous. Hence the confusion, (which I honestly didn't know about actually.)

Which is probably why she got the heaviest redesign. I'd wager it was due to the facial structure.

Amazing week of episodes, show is just too damn good.

Re: latest ep:

"You always say you'll be the crocodile but you never commit." was a great line. Also Pearl closing the door on Connie and just standing there until Garnet moved her out of the way was hilarious. Show balances comedy and drama so perfectly

We will likely get a break for the summer. This also allows Seasons 2 and 3 (?) to get some much needed (and deserved!) production time.

I still think they were pussy footing around that scene seeing as the creators wanted a full kiss on the lips and were upset that they had to change it (if CN wasn't uncomfortable with it or scared of the negative reactions it might cause from conservative parents they would have allowed for a seconds long lip kiss between those two characters), but like I said I ultimately agree with you about Pearl's earlier character design being a bit androgynous and the fact that they're taking baby steps towards better LGBT representation.
Again...baby steps, there is still a lot of work to be done...
our little Garnet gaybies, Ruby and Sapphire
along with Jeff's parents are a great step in the right direction for CN; I hope it gets even better in the future, and I hope they start specifically tackling non-cisnormative hero characters in unique and nuanced ways too.

Also Pearl's design was complete ass. Can't forget that one.

Man,
Steven really was rattled by what happened.

Thank God he didn't end the episode still trying to avoid Connie.

One thing I'm really curious to find out about, if it is ever explained, is the gems "infecting" planets to suck them dry and reproduce. I wonder the gems *must* harm and exploit organic life to create new gems. Or if they can create new gems in an ethical manner except not on a scale that allows manufacture armies to take over worlds.

Look at this image. This is when Amethyst starts bringing Steven into Kindergarten.

There's a clear line close to Kindergarten where all signs of life just stop. Plus, even after thousands of years, that area hasn't recovered.

I think it's pretty likely that, through continued usage, Kindergarten would slowly make the entire planet like that, incapable of sustaining life.

Man,

Thank God he didn't end the episode still trying to avoid Connie.
Especially after the car scene in 'The Return' really went out of its way to emphasize how naive he was and how seriously he finally started to take the whole situation.

^Her skirt looked like a prolapsed anus.

Her old "tutu" looked like an afterthought that was stuck on because her design was so boring. Yet they changed the outfit to one that looked much better. They could have done the same with the original.

Was I the only one that noticed Pearl's early design silhouette when she regenerated from her injury in "Steven The Sword Fighter?" I didn't see it mentioned in the earlier posts.

I'm talking about this thing, not her little translucent tutu. So gross.

I was talking about her pre-swordfighter outfit. It wasn't great but they changed it to something better.

I guess the point I'm making is that her original body and face were much better for me.

Reminder to everyone that in one hour, spoilers for The Return and Jailbreak shall no longer need to be tagged. If you're planning on watching those episodes but haven't yet, hop to it!

Also remember that spoilers from any non-finale episodes no longer need to be tagged once episodes have aired on both coasts, but I must ask that any speculation or leaks regarding future episodes be tagged for everyone's consideration.

That was a great cool off episode after the crazy finale. Didn't really feel appropriate to be aired right after it though, considering this is the first episode of season 2 and the flashbacks. Oh well. Another great musical number, really like the use of the ring tone in the song. Hopefully we get another StevenBomb at the end of the next season.

After all these quality episodes I still can't shake the dread of the looming Uncle Grandpa episode. I wish it was an Uncle Grandpa episode and not a Steven Universe one so I could ignore it all together. I'll try just pretending it didn't happen but that feeling of dread for such an incredibly annoying and crappy show crossing over with this one is kind of spoiling this awesome finale.

So I just caught up with all the last six episodes.

And HOLY SHIT THIS SHOW GOT EVEN BETTER.

The whole story and arc was great. The music was fantastic. It was all amazing.

I already liked the show beforehand but this just took it to a whole new level.

That one evil Gem completely reminded me of Frieza and all the fights felt like DBZ so that only helped to make this show even more awesome.

LOL TGD, the show has been firing on all cylinders for some time now. Alone Together, Lion 3: Straight to Video and of course the Steven Bomb are all great show cases why this series is a must watch.

I thought Season 1 is going to end with Full Disclosure (Ep. 50), Open Book (Ep. 51) and Joy Ride (Ep. 52) before it's really over.

Even if Jailbreak basically is called to be the finale by the creators.

man, i thought for sure that steven was going to follow through with ignoring connie. just makes me appreciate how this show isnt predictable.

Eeep, those aren't good ratings.

Seems like a bad day for all the shows though, not just Steven Universe. Still ended up with the second-most views after Teen Titans Go.

How the hell is toddler Titans getting so many views it’s so bad
Lol at the first comment on that page.
Why so salty? That show is fantastic. In fact, they made an episode specifically for people who say similar things.

Its kind of hard to explain but I kind of wish we ended season 1 where they planned. It isn't serious but it bugs me when they have to air things out of order. Although I do like getting to see more episodes quickly. Really just wish the climax was at the end of the airing season. (Yes, I know that the had to rearrange and that for all intents and purposes that Jail Break was the end of Season 1)
