Media Create Sales: Week 11, 2015 (Mar 09 - Mar 15)

LOL no one is fooled by the abomination in sheep's clothing, Nintendo! Give us a "Mario Party All Stars" with enhanced remakes of all the good ones (i.e., pre-GCN), then we can talk business!

lol if you have seen the amount of content the game has along with recorded voice lines by pretty famous folks in Japan yeah doubt its "cheap".

I remember for the first (mainline?) PS3 one (I think it was in reference to Yakuza 3 actually and not Kenzan, but could easily be wrong) they noted it was a break even title and they hoped to be notably more profitable with the next ones by reusing technology/assets, so that gives us something of a sense of what it cost.

Assuming the NX is a console, do you guys think it would launch next year?

Iwata repeated once again in that Time interview he won't give any more details about it until next year. From this, we can expect either:

- reveal and release close to each other, like E3 and fall 2016.
- slow hints and reveal (like the Wii for example) showing a bit here and there, and a release later. If it's a console, it would then be released in fall 2017.

Personally, I think it's an handheld, so sometimes in 2017 if it's a console for me. Hard to say.

It'd be close to the historical levels of when a DQ was released, if you assume that there's no overlap between PS3 and PS4 userbase. Not sure of 4m for PS4 by this time next year but it wouldn't be substantially far from it, I'd think.

I'm thinking end of 2016. o_O

Releasing another console before a handheld would certainly be an unusual move.

Well personally I feel that Nintendo(and the JP market) in general is moving downstream now. What were once console products have been supplanted with portables ones(Monster Hunter, 3D Zelda, 3D Mario, Smash) and what was once portable products are being supplanted with mobile ones. I feel Nintendo is done with AAA console gaming.

I'm actually thinking that NX might be more aligned with modern smart device design. A slate design/gaming tablet for the portable and a set top box design for the console(possibly still with touch screen controller).

Someone compared Nintendo's approach to Amazon and I think it kind of fits. I don't think NX will be based on Android like Kindle but I think a similar philosophy including hosting mobile games on their own eShop.

Then again I could be totally wrong and it's the handheld they ditch. On an unrelated note, they should keep the name as NX because it works the same way DS did.

Releasing another console before a handheld would certainly be an unusual move.

I see them maybe doing both. They did after all release GBA and GC a few months apart in 2001, why not do that again where it might be even more appropriate? Handheld first naturally makes sense, summer maybe, and console for the holidays?

It's curious that Nintendo managed to improve Wii U sales on USA (and Europe I suppose), but completely failed on Japan.

Contrary to the rest of the world, 2013 was the peak year for Japan and sales are pretty bad right now.

I think it was 3+Kenzan combined were break even overall by sharing technology and being co-developed.

Considering the suddenness of the New 3DS and the months until launch coupled with the fact that 3DS was 1 year from announcement to launch I predict that it'll be officially unveiled around early next year, maybe seeing the actual thing at E3 and then launch in the States that fall.

Considering how Nintendo basically killed off the series during the Wii gen, I'm not surprised.

I have no idea why they stopped churning the titles out - they were cash cows.
Because Mario Party 8 sold as much as all Mario Party's on GCN combined? :p

Not to forget that Mario Party DS is the most succesful entry.

yes, but isn't this pretty expected from Wii U games? I think that every single Wii U game will have that label at the end of the day.
Considering how it seemed to start /15% S/T on firts day) was able to sell at least again during the weekend and will probably sell the initial shipment pretty easily.
of course, lowered expectations, for Wii U softwares...
Mario Kart 8 opened a lot higher than most titles at least. Pikmin 3 was similar to 1&2 in its opening. Most titles didn't like you said.

Yeah, a price reduction woukd decease margins I guess but when you're selling 7k weekly...you should do something.

With its software library it should at least be doing like 10k. Still dead, but better.

Why are there so many releases next week? Holiday? Why wouldn't some of the smaller games move their dates to the weeks following the big releases?

End of Japanese fiscal year.

Thanks so I'm assuming they get paid for the shipments and want to make a splash. But wouldn't stores possibly be willing to order more units of D5 in the week they aren't ordering Bloodborne and SAO and thus receive a bigger payment in the long run for the smaller 3rd parties.

I apologize if I offended your favorite game developing company.

But the game looks like shit.

No, it's not a matter of insulting my favorite publisher whatsoever (it's ND Cube the developer, it ain't no EAD). It's just a poor choice of words on your front - might i suggest: the game's aesthetics leaves to be desired.

I think that is what you insinuated or tried to convey correct?

I mean my shit surely don't look like rainbows.

The thing it's been much worse before.

At least this time, you'll have Rodea & another Lego on 4/2 and Xenoblade on 4/29 shortly after.

Well deserved sales. Game looks like shit.

The minigames actually look fun imo. Honestly since like 2/3 I got bored of the actual boards a lot. Is there like a minigame mode in this game? That's honestly what I most care about. Honestly it's on the Wii U, even high quality games have done much worse sales-wise.

I have no doubt for the PS3 centric games they used a ton of the Kamuro-cho stuff, but from there with Y:Zero most def they had to redo a ton of things with the whole trying to capture the 80s. Though it seems that them redoing the city / graphics have caused some new issues to pop up on the PS4 according to people who are more sensitive to things like screen tearing, which never really was an issue before on the PS3 versions.

With all the time they have spent on the city too the team must be pretty well adapt at breaking it apart and putting it back together which most def helps cut down on development time.

Interesting that if it was about Yakuza 3 considering that they had made whole new areas with Okinawa and such.

Then from 4 also new content was included.

Then 5 had its other cities plus the new systems added to the game itself.

With 4 and 5 also the multiple character system most def took more time to implement with the balancing animations etc.

While I know the data will not be released it would most def be interesting to see a real breakdown of development in general.

Though with all of that aside I still think that calling the titles inexpensive to create is a huge understatement regardless and my original point and reply to said poster stands.

In regards to Zero though it most def seems to be a "stopgap" sort of title hence why they went and used Osaka and Kamuro-cho again. Good way for the team to experiment with the tech on a PS4 with the mainline game, yet have a setting interesting enough to get people to buy back into the series.

While not the same I still do believe that Yakuza Dead Souls for example was the teams practice run for creating Binary Domain. Working on third person shooting mechanics and tossing it out there to generate sales rather than having a long period of time where nothing was produced / sold.

Speaking of a crowded release period, Atelier Rorona 3DS has been delayed from March 26th to just "Spring":

http://www.siliconera.com/2015/03/18/new-atelier-rorona-delayed-until-this-spring-in-japan/

Gust says it's to "meet customer satisfaction" which I assume means more polish (thank god, when you have footage that can't decide whether the characters have even a circle shadow or not, you know it needs more work), but obviously the date had to have been a reason also.

Looks like the KanColle PS Vita game has been delayed to August?... did we ever get to see anything about the game?

I doubt Hori would just delay this special pack if the game wasn't too.
