Emulator Screenshot Thread

I wasn't using any hd textures in those screens, but there was a revision of Dolphin recently that fixed the minimap scaling so that it looks much cleaner at higher resolutions.

Thanks man. It runs at 50-60 fps when running around the open wasteland area, but it slows down to like 30 whenever you face some serious geometry, like some areas where you fight Colossi. Still totally playable

sweet got it working too

The Colossi are blue apparently, who could've guessed?

You know it's never really looked like it, but here is the first image where I've found the fur to actually look really incredible. For PS2 that's crazy.

I'm gonna contribute a bit :) Steambot Chronicles, Odin Sphere, Magic Pengel, I Love Katamari

(Sadly Steambot cannot play at 5x resolution, best I can do is frameskip at 2x to keep it playable. Still, this game wasn't even emulateable a year ago I think)

I was using print screen, but the image wasn't as good as what I was seeing before I had even saved it, so I thought there was a better way. I'll mess around with it more.

Hey guys I have a request. Does anyone have ANY of the fatal frame games? (Fatal frame 1-3 on PS2 or Project Zero 2 or Fatal Frame 4 on wii)

I would love to see how they look.

Here are two quick shots of Fatal Frame III. No additional post-processing on these besides higher resolution.

Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner plays incredibly well! 3x high-res, smooth gameplay all throughout even if with tons of enemies on screen. It's beautiful, and gameplay is unlike anything I've experienced even up to now. I don't think there's a game out there that plays quite like ZOE. Other mech games give you a hulking mechanical tank feel, on ZOE you just feel like this graceful bad-ass mech jet fighter.

Front Mission 5 also works at full speed. Playing it for the first time now after getting the fan translation :D

I remember when that game first came out a review said it was like "something 10 years out of the future". Seeing how the graphics still hold up today with only a resolution bump and some color injectors I would have to agree!

2.5mb jpegs and 3mb+ pngs on this page. For god's sake that Katamari one is 5mb... why?

I'll be back in a few hours once the thread has loaded.

Seriously guys, for pics where they are lots of jaggies, low polys, imperfect emulation etc, uncompressed shots are really not needed. Throw the batch in Irfanview and get 900kb almost indistinguishable jpgs.

Unprocessed shot

ssao + GeDoSaTo asmodean shaders + additional black crushing

I was originally quoting to comment how good and accurate that looks compared to the HD version of the game, but then I saw that mention of SSAO.

The fuck? GeDo's AO implementation works in PPSSPP!? That's crazy! If depth buffer can be accessed, doesn't that also mean we'd likely be able to use Reshade to inject DoF and AO as well?

Yeah it works with GeDo's AO implementation but not out-of-the-box. In this case I had to modify the source-code to detect and retrieve a 4800x2720 depth buffer from the emu (which is 10 times the 480x272 psp native res I guess since I use the x10 upscaling) and then stretch it manually to fit the 16:9 aspect ratio. It's hard -but not impossible- for any injector to analyse and detect all these unconventionnal depth buffer resolutions

I guess ReShade would have to do the same. With a plugin system like GeDoSaTo maybe. Then again all emulators are heavily subject to changes so it's probably not worth wasting time on writing stuff that wouldn't work later. If anything it should be native to each emu.

I just tried this on the obsolete Dolphin DX9 backend SSAO does work as well although it looks a bit out of place sometimes :

Not super necessary but still interesting to see

Unbelievable. I don't know shit about emulation, how is the performance of this game in Dolphin, especially with these effects added? This is my favourite game of all time, and playing it like this would be such an amazing experience.

Agreed

Ahh I remember you explaining the Dolphin method to me a while ago, had no idea it would work with PPSSPP. Seriously cool to see. It's a bummer that ReShade is closed source in this case then.

Should we have a mod add a 56k warning?

I kid I kid

I'm playing through it right now and yeah, it is a fantastic game. And fortunately the effects don't really have any impact on performance. With a 4670K and a 770 2gb, the game runs at 60 most of the time but drops as low as 40 when you're in the larger more complex areas

I don't know if I would play through it with this amount of saturation, but I think I would definitely try it sometime.

It's quite a different experience with the wasteland covered in grass, almost more like a Hyrule Field kind of vibe. Colossi are gorgeous though

Howabout some DS Games at 4x Internal Resolution?

Star Fox Command

Animal Crossing Wild World

Mario Kart DS

Elite Beat Agents

Sonic Colors

Doesn't really have much to gain with the 2D BG's, of course.

The other day I seriously considered posting something along the lines of "where the DS games at"

Glad you got to it before me :) they look great btw.
