Both the regular and XL New 3DS were submitted to the FCC, HUELEN got really excited

Quoting for new page:

Ugh, you excitable people!

This is meaningless.

Nintendo submitted both devices to the FCC back in September.

The regular New 3DS on 9/24/14 and the New 3DS XL on 9/25/14.

All that's happened here is the photos they submitted to the FCC have run out of their confidentiality period. Both of them were submitted with some aspects of the submission being confidential until 3/23/15. I think this is standard practice, they took the maximum allowable length of time for the photos to become public.

Two devices were submitted to the FCC at the same time, with photos of the device being confidential until the same later date. One device has released and the other has not. You can draw your own conclusions from there.

Any impressions on the circle pad durability, specifically for things like Smash? I'll likely pick this up since my XL has a fucked circle pad that frequently gets stuck in a cartain direction. Its made playing Kid Icarus and Smash impossible.

Oh geez, I see on my phone the title says US in some dumb character set, on my computer it just showed boxes.

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like
Meh...
I already bought the n3DS XL it's too late Nintendo

Why do people want the regular one over the XL again? I know there's a reason but I can't think of it.

- It has cool swappable face plates
- Higher pixel density so the display looks more crisp
- Smaller, fits easier in pocket (or, takes up the same space in a small case as an XL does by itself, so it's easier to protect)
- Some people have smaller hands and find it more comfortable

Hey, did anyone notice the black C-Stick? Japan's definitely did not get that, so it's not just a mere off hue in the picture.

On the one hand I am very happy, on the other hand they changed the buttons around.
Guess we will see it at E3 then...

Edit:
Could it be some bad photographs? By making the hue -32 on a SFC controller image I made this:

The green is a bit off but you get the picture.
Oh...

Having a manual completed is fairly indicative, but the submission being at the same time as the larger version just indicates that it was fully canceled relatively close to release.

Will be purchasing a new one when the smaller one comes out! If, it comes out that is. Especially because by then, there may be some exclusive must-have software.

Like right now, and this is just my own thoughts on the possibility, it was planned at the same time, port strikes happened, they decided to just go with the most popular model instead, leaving this one to a later date.

Considering the fact that Nintendo actively delayed Amiibo Wave 4 until the port strike gets cleared makes me think that indeed we may get the regular model in the summer.
I think they decided to soft launch it in the US in Feb to go with MH4.

Receptive Nintendo is best Nintendo. Happy for those that waited the true wait for what they wanted! :)

Edit: oh wait, not definitive? Hmmm...

Looks like so far there's nothing definitive that we didn't already know: that at one point, the normal New 3DS was planned for release eventually. We still don't know if that release is still coming, unfortunately. I'm holding out hope:

I guess that may have been a plausible factor, but it doesn't necessarily mean a launch now that shipping has cleared up. Retailers have already committed to a 100% XL/0% standard mix, marketing has been done, production schedules have been revised based on heavier projected XL demand, and any backlash over not getting the standard size has already occurred while a shift in policy would trigger new backlash from people who wanted a standard but settled for an XL.

Still really don't understand why anyone would want a smaller screen, but guess it's good to have a choice.
Lol if bigger screen had higher resolution your statment would be true but if they have same resolution I don't understand why anyone would want that 240p picture streched and smeared on the bigger screen...

Hey guys, Rob from GameSpot here. I've looked into this story and it appears the listing was submitted in September last year, with the confidentiality period now expiring.

What it means is Nintendo was making the necessary preparations, as any business should, about half a year before the system launched. At some point after, it decided not to ship the smaller version.

Unfortunately, there is no indication here that the company has changed its mind on the matter. I've reached out to Nintendo nevertheless, but I would suggest managing expectations on this one.

Thanks for being honest.
Oh well, still rocking my PAL version.

The mindset that encourages you to count pixels on a Nintendo portable is probably the real problem here.

Well I'm not really obsessed with pixels and screen quality but being surrounded with high ppi screens everyday it's hard for me to understand why someone would pick the bigger model except for comfort reasons. The mentality of 3DSXL is the same as the magnifying glass accsessory for Gameboy aka make things bigger, not better.

It's personally hard for me to understand why people obsessed with IQ and PPI (or think it bears mentioning with regards to Nintendo portables, which have been lacking in this area for years) would gravitate toward any Nintendo portables.

It's fair to push for the "best" within a particular class even when that class is poor at that standard in general. Think people who want the most fuel-efficient pickup truck, or the cheapest first-class airfare, or the healthiest ice cream.

Honestly, it's the same ambiguity either way, as Nintendo handhelds aren't traditionally known for their immersiveness yet the US market breaks for the XL because it's more immersive.

Ha ha, that title change.

That reminds me, what happened to that "video player" thing from Korea...

There's this huge chance that the unit on display is a pre-release unit because they'd probably be smart and submit the FCC forms ahead of the actual launch

Fuck man, and I was considering giving up hope and buying the New XL. I just don't know anymore. I wish Nintendo would be publicly blunt about the subject and say "it's never coming over". There are a fair number of folks who are still holding back on buying any New 3DS model.
