BloodBorne Sales Expectations : What are yours? What Could Sony's be ?

Well Bloodborne is now number 2 on the hourly charts on amazon. Normally games fall off after their first day. I would say word of mouth is spreading for this title.

As far as a console bump I'm not sure this game will be responsible for that. BUT, this month has seen some good PS4 deals already. Trade in deal for a PS4, Amazon has a bloodborne+PS4 bundle for $435 and various other retailers have PS4 deals.

I think March will be a good month for the PS4. I predict it will lead hardware and software sales for the month.

Games rarely outsell PSN cards on Amazon.

At least 80% of my friend list was playing it last time I looked. This sort of thing plus streaming will lead to network effect sales, I think. People don't want to feel left out.

In my session last night, I had 4 friends online, all playing Bloodborne. Pretty good showing. Amongst my friends list, I know about 90% of them personally IRL and are all long time gamers, Bloodborne and the Souls series are niche games only enjoyed by a few of us.

Compared this to Destiny, which was the game that made a half dozen or so friends go out and buy a PS4. And for months, every time I turned on my PS4 (to play Destiny) I had most of my PS4 friend list online doing the same.

Even my cat preordered Bloodborne!

Funny story; for the very first time in her life, my cat just sat next to me, watching the screen while I played Bloodborne. She has literally never watched the screen while I played any other game.

Cat-hype for Bloodborne is real.

I hope the sales for it skyrocket through the roof. I want publishers to see single player hardcore adventures and RPGs and such are alive and well. Well, at least if GTA V and Skyrim weren't enough.

Sony needs to help Persona 5 get the same type of exposure later this year.

Persona 5 needs to launch in the US at a time when there are no major releases. I have a feeling Persona 5 could be REALLY huge for the franchise. You already know it'll do well in Japan but I think it has potential to do very well in the NA market given the right advertising.

Why bloodborne has still not overtaken FF Type-0 in monthly amazon chart yet?

I wander how much unit an item needs to reach top 3 in hourly chart?

I'm surprised Bloodborne is still Trending Topic on Spanish Twitter (been in the list since the 24th). Don't remember seeing this in any other game.
Although that doesnt mean much about sales, Im sure its doing very well.

To which I asked "Really? What about the large user base of Playstation 4 owners that are still looking for a killer game? Don't you think that should move at least a 10% share of the current user base? What about potential clients on the edge that are long time Souls fans, wouldn't they be more inclined to jump into a system now, especially with the current results from reviews and looking at the upcoming fiscal year don't you think the trend is going up? Surely they could manage 2 million plus sales with those figures?"

I would have told you take a breath and settle down.

I was blown away by the 2500 streams this game had when i looked yesterday afternoon.

I think they might have a big hit on their hands, which is good in many aspects.

All things Playstation still doing incredible at Amazon - been like this for a couple of days. I'm starting to think that they are moving a lot of consoles, which in turn is moving a lot of games.

Xbox One bundle has been in the 50s for days, now sitting at number 52.

150-200K difference in march?

150k at best, is my guess.

Very true, I know that reads very douche-y. Just silly to say that BB needs XB1 to succeed. Sure it would sell a lot more, but it won't necessarily need the XB1 to succeed.
Let's be honest, any time someone makes a statement like that guy did, they're actually saying they're bummed the game isn't on their preferred platform.

Considering the fact that one of my friends, who is a diehard Xbox fanboy, is thinking about selling his 360 to get a PS4 & Bloodborne, let's me know that this game will sell just fine. Maybe 2 million?

I really hope this game succeeds (let’s say above 3 mil. lifetime). It would definitely be a remarkable statement to the whole industry that even a game tagged as niche could become mainstream.

it's sold out at the german amazon shop. only external merchants do offer it with almost +30% price.

either it was stocked kinda low or the sales exceeded all expectations

You know, it's sounding more and more likely that this game could outsell Dark Souls 2. Which would be insane. Seems like it's the exact right game at the exact right time in the console life cycle to maximise impact.

1) We have the PS4 which people like to claim "Has no good exclusives"
untrue but I digress
and yet seems to be selling incredibly well, implying that there is a "thirst" for games to make the purchase worthwhile.
2) Dark Souls fans are pretty damn hardcore and probably bought a PS4 as soon as Bloodborne was announced, so the actual core sales shouldn't reduce because of it not being on other platforms.
3) The reviews are pretty much unanimous that the game is incredible. Combined with aforementioned "Thirst", more people are likely to go "Oh this is apparently good" and pick it up.
4) The sheer ease of streaming has meant the word of mouth for the game is insane. Now that anyone can just press a button and let everyone see them, or easily capture something awesome they've done, it makes visibility for the game WAY better than Demon's Souls or Dark Souls games could have imagined.
5) Sony have actually done a pretty awesome job of marketing the game this time around.

It's like the stars have aligned for them. I legitimately think this game is going to manage 3 million sales over its lifetime, easily.

Nah, GTA is a system seller. Not bloodborne.

Probably around the sales of dark souls 2, not all platforms considered though.

I'd disagree. Obviously we don't know yet, but it definitely seems like BB is a system seller the fact it has a Amazon bundle kind of confirms that for me. GTA V is the highest grossing game of all time, a game could sell a 1/20 of what GTA V did and still move systems.

But they told me it was niche...

It will sell a lot more than the Souls games did, I am sure.
It's the first with such huge media coverage, bundle and social media hype from the start. The others grew over time. this one is hot from day one on.
2.5 Million.

P.S.: Many will buy it, try it and find it too hard. But they will never admit.

To your first point, the PS4 has had plenty of "good" exclusive games, but it hasn't had any "great" games. Personally there has been nothing that makes me jump and say, "I need that game right now" quality-wise until BloodBorne.

I'm not one to push indie titles (SteamGAF knows my rants), but I think you're ignoring Hotline Miami 1 & 2.

I bought the PS4 for this game, and there is nothing else I'm going to buy on it.

Everything else on my PC is soooo much better than a PS4.

Sure it will sell consoles obviously, but then every game would be a system seller, that's not how it works.

Sure dogs like to be petted, but then every dog would be getting their pet on, but thats not how petting works.

yeah, i think most what would be traditional assessments of how bloodborne could/should do will kinda go out the window because of this. bloodborne's something of a black swan: it just so happens that, for sony, the heavens ended up in perfect alignment at this point in time: the hottest console + the highest-rated console exclusive, with a minimal number of other new titles available (for example, had either batman or witcher also just been released, things might be different)...

bloodborne's gonna surprise people. in many ways :) ...

They'll just say that it's cheap or poorly designed. (Both very far from the truth)

No, they will pretend to have finished it (watching playthroughs under their blankets at night), praising it like all the others.
Claiming that this one is poorly designed would be social (media) suicide.

I can't imagine a world in which Persona 5 does gangbusters in the US. I'm sure it will see moderate success, and perhaps be one of the better selling titles given that the PS4 is so big right now, but I honestly think you are overselling how well an anime-style, story-heavy, old-school RPG is going to do in the US. (Persona 4 is in my top 5 GoAT, but I'm pretty sure the appeal isn't there for most folks.) I think the same largely about how well Bloodborne is going to do, but at least the content is gritty and violent which will likely appeal to the game-buying audience.

When I went to Gamestop to pick up my Majora's Mask 3DS the guy told me this when I asked how Bloodborne's release went.

"If they would have released it on Xbox One in addition to PS4 they would have easily sold a couple million copys, but without XB1 or a PC release I bet they'll barely hit 1 million".

He stared at me like a deer in headlights and said "Oh man, do you like, you know, do this stuff?"

I'm a financial Risk Analyst, I love hearing other people tell me their analysis sometimes, this was not one of those times. Bloodborne: Gamestop Financial Analyst edition... Reminds me of Michael Pachter.

***EDIT*** I would say based on the consoles sold through and projections by EOM Bloodborne hits 3 million WW by August with lifetime sales of 4 million putting it at a 18.6% attach rate to user base by E3.

jeez.

he's just a gamestop associate. no need to feel all high and mighty cause you "know" more than him

Given the paucity of big, well-reviewed titles on PS4, if it gets a Metacritic and marketing in the range of Bloodborne I think it would easily become the bestselling title in the franchise by a comfortable margin. Persona is something that hasn't even really been marketed in the West and has achieved success largely through word of mouth.

Is noone even more impressed that GTAV is still number 5? Not only months after release, but over a year since it's initial release :O

GTA sells like 30-40 million, so it's not strange that it'll outsell most games even a few months after its release (even if it's a re-release).

They've been advertising on very mainstream programming in the U.S. I love the idea of someone buying this and playing with no notion of what they're in for.

It's on sale for $39 & it hasn't been a year since the PS4/Xbox One release, it came out November 18.

But I'm sure that the game on PS4 & Xbox One is close to 15 million in sales already it was at 10 Million last I heard of it.

Didn't Persona 4 Golden sell about 1 million in the US alone in the Vita? Someone correct me
