Just like Dragon quest hero and it boosted ps4 for many weeks

Because it had a limited edition PS4.
Thanks Takao for reporting it!

I'm...quite surprised that SSB 3DS sold less digital copies than SSB Wii U

Wii U seems to have a userbase that isn't as averse to digital titles as much vs the more mainstream 3DS user base.

In the land of mobile and handhelds, 100k is alright. Can't all be like Hino, making million sellers as a past time and running them into the ground in a way which would make Rock Band and Guitar Hero blush. :')

/Hino mode on

excuse sir, which is the game which hit the ground you are talking 'bout ? Might be some yellow pocket-sized electric puppet ?

/Hino mode off

I know NIS were only joking around when they initially said they would be in trouble if D5 didn't sell, but...... this still isn't looking good.

Being really honest here, people would be naive to think NIS won't port Disgaea 5 to another platform. It's going to bomb in Japan and it won't make up for it in the West, they might make a Vita port after all, or even a PC port.

They'll need to... Sad seeing companies fall so slow. :(

I don't understand why they would want to limit their audience, I would get it if they bring it to PC one day.

But do they need the PC? I mean sure its an additional platform with an additional player base, but from what I understand, the PS3 than later Vita ultimate edition does well for them. The issue this time around is that they skipped the PS3. For instance, looking back it seems the first week sales of Disgaea 4 on PS3 in Japan was around 80k with Vita around 30k first week. I think the LTD for the PS3 version was 130k in Japan and not sure about the Vita release. Further, I do not know how the games are doing in the west.

I mean it looks like for company NIS's size, those sales are enough to keep going. Again, what seems to be the issue here is that they are skipping PS3 and supposedly skipping Vita (I think the comment was they would need the next Playstation handheld). I am not sure the fanbase in the West is large enough that it was worth skipping out on PS3 and the inevitable Vita port. And if that is the case, perhaps supporting the PC as well is too much for them?

I don't believe NIS is doing well. Granted I am not up to date on their financials.

From the below article, it looks like they are doing fine, that the 150k sales was a self deprecating joke from the producer. Essentially, the studio is committed to 150k sales and if that does happen, the producer said he might need to leave the industry.

Financials aside (they seem to slip in and out of profitability) the company itself just isn't doing well in general. There was a massive staff exodus back in 2013 including much of the core Disgaea team. There were also rumors about a lot of business shenanigans which painted the company in really poor light. Since then their output has dropped considerably and Disgaea 5 looks to be their first major test to see if they can find success with the brand name alone. If it fails, maybe the company has no future.

Thanks for clarifying. I knew about the exodus but was unsure of the level it might effect them.

It's really sad, the industry definitely needs companies like NIS, I hope they adapt.

If the rumors about why the staff left are true, then I do not think the industry needs companies like NIS at all.
