Legend of Kay Anniversary (Wii U, PS4, PC) screenshots

Finally we have an in-game look at this after it was first leaked by Amazon almost two months ago. And Nordic still won't announce it. It's developed by Unit 4 Games which seem to be in the same location as Keen Games who made the original as Neon Games, and Unit 4 has one of the founders.

Features:

- High-resolution textures - new, more detailed character models, modern rendering techniques and crystal-clear surround sound
- Much higher levels of detail to the environments, even when seen close up
- A new user interface making the game simpler to use
- Cut scenes improved - now in HD!
- Achievements have been added
- Leaderboard - compare your score with your friends' and compete against the best in the world
- 60 Frames per seconds for high speed smooth action
- 25 different levels with over 15 enemy types and epic boss battles
- 3 different primary weapons (sword/hammer/claws) with distinct combat styles
- Various mini-games such as wild boar racing, dragon flying and wolf riding

Doesn't look all that good honestly, I would've expected more than this.

It's due on May 29th in NA and EU.

With the way the announcement and such was handled this was never going to be a big budget remake. Still, I'd like to see a digital foundry on the differences between the Wii U and PS4 versions.

And to be fair, it IS $25 on Wii U ($30 on PS4) in NA, that's very rare is even the first for a Wii U game at release.

Also the radar on the bottom left shows what looks like a D-Pad and a + button so that's the Wii U version I assume.

So long as it's budget-priced, I am going to jump for this immediately. I always wanted to play the original and my only involvement with it was discovering virt's great tracks he did for it.

Glad to see it's at 60 FPS, too. I mean, of course it would be, but nice to see all the same.

It looks like the PS2 game, but in HD, which I don't know is any different from what should be expected. It was 60 FPS on PS2, so it made concessions for that to begin with. Still, it was fun, and virt's soundtrack is incredible.

Looks nice enough to me. About what I was expecting from a budget priced remaster of an already budget PS2 game from ten years ago. =p I've never played it, pretty keen to grab this when it launches.

Those shots are 720p, which is kinda 'eh' even for the Wii U. Still, I guess I'll be in for a PS4 copy as long as it hits 1080p.

I severely doubt it, for a couple of reasons.

1. The upgrade is the bare minimum, with cleaner textures (if that, kind of hard to tell) and some smoother models and rim lighting is it? I would highly think they would have made it 1080p on Wii U if they wanted to.

2. And bare minimum would also make it as much of a copy and paste job on other systems, and making the other versions (well PC is automatic I think anyway) in 1080p would mean extra effort.

As said, this would explain the budget price.

Pretty sure that's meant to be a magnifying glass. It's hard to tell because of the background, but if you look, you can see the handle.

Oh wow you're right! :)

Visuals aside, what's the general consensus on how the game actually plays? I'm more than happy to look past that if it's a good game that's fun to play.

It's the least bad of all those b-tier 3D PS2 platformers but it's still nothing to get excited about.

Wow, what the actual fuck? What a bizarre choice for a remaster. A retail release no less. Well I'm in, I really liked the original although I never finished it. The gameplay was really good as I recall. What they also need to do is totally redub it, that was the biggest problem with the original game, the VO was atrocious. A really fun game even so.

I never heard of this game back in the PS2 days. What's it like? How does it stack of to Rachet&Clank and Jak and Daxter?

HD Ps2 game, coming to a WiiU near you.

Looks OK I guess. I really am grimacing at the stock default UI with absolutely no character or charm.

seems similar to Rodea, honestly.
was the game any good in terms of gameplay? is the game coming out in EU too?

It was a fun game, not in the same bracket as Jak, Sly or Ratchet. It probably the best b-tier platform adventure, it certainly excelled in the soundtrack department.

It's up for pre-order in EU at most retailers (in the UK at least), so I'd say it is a lock for Europe.

If you want to try it out for cheap I think it's on PSN as a PS2 classic.

Edit: It is on PSN for £3.99 https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-gb/games/legend-of-kay-full-game/cid=EP4389-NPED00264_00-GLEGENDOFK000001

Edit2: Shopto have the Wii U version for £18 and the PS4 version for £22.

One of the forgotten gems of the PS2 Furry Action Platformer era is getting a remaster? And it's coming to PC?!

DAY FREAKING ZERO WHERE DO I PREORDER?

Never played it, but looks interesting in that platformer/action type of way. Its a budget title so maybe I'll give it a shot.

thank you!

If this doesn't save the PS4, I don't know what will.

Just curious why do you all thing this deserves a HD release? I've never heard of it, was it popular?

Nope it wasn't popular but it was a solid game, I guess having a gap in the market for this sort of game means it will stand it out more now than it did on PS2.

Not as good as those but honestly, it's not too far off, it's more of an adventure/Zelda Lite game style anyway but with a lot more platforming obviously...

I'd recommend it solely because they don't make games like this anymore nowadays!

I like that description.
if I'll find it for very cheap, I'll consider the Wii U version

Even though the original got a 6 from Edge, the review text sold me on the game.

Its foremost pleasures are the evenly paced exploration, the pleasant graphical style and the unexpectedly humorous characters... While far from essential, this is a much more enjoyable adventure than, on paper, it has any right to be.

I've never played this game, and I've always wondered why this of all games was getting a remaster. Some of the things I've read are promising, and at that price I'm kinda almost definitely going to grab it.

I kinda want this on Wii U, because I could do with some more games to play on that system, so I'm curious as to how that version compares with the PS4 one.

I'm still shocked this is getting a physical release. I'll likely buy it to support that. I had a PS2 copy way back when, but even if I still had it I think I'm unlikely to dig out my PS2 at this point, so this is a perfect way to give it a try.

Man, this game looks fun in that oldschool kind of way. I don't think I've ever heard of this back in the day. Martial arts cats, rats, and bears? I'm in.

It's a solid game that's on plenty of ps2 hidden gem lists. It was overlooked then, but the genre is pretty bare today and may stand out more today as a cheap game.

Why are all those inventory icons and the map on the screen? Is there a way to put the less-important ones on the Wii U Gamepad instead?
