Is currently staging a hunger strike outside Gearbox HQ while trying to hate them to death
This has probably been asked a million times before, but should I go ahead and buy the key I need to open the gate near the cathedral? I was gonna explore old Yharnam first anyway and was hoping to find it there somewhere.

Also, does telling people to go to the cathedral for safety do anything, and what do I do with the music box?

Thanks

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
So what if I killed Alfred how will I get
the password?
?

You don't get the
pass from Alfred, you get it from beating Amelia and going to the altar.

You only have to create the dungeon and not have to finish it if you want to use the glyph code. Maybe you have to finish the non-root version to use a glyph code for the root version?

I finished the first 3 non-root ones and wanted to help my friend clear them, he did the ritual and then used my glyph code and entered my dungeon so i could help him clear all 3 layers each time without having to redo them for me.
With the makeshift altar i could have just joined him in his dungeon for all 3 bosses right?

To use a root dungeons glyph, you would definitely have to unlock it first by doing the standard version first.

Honestly, it would probably be easier to co-op just by going in the same dungeon and ringing the bell. But I believe the altar would work fine.

Just helped two guys co-op Vicar Amelia and it was awesome. Got summoned instantly. 3 hunter bros going to town. Flawless.

Tried to summon people myself and it took awhile but eventually it found someone and he was awesome. Helped me take down her down no problem. Love this game.

I actually really like the bell system. Just set it ringing and carry through the level until it picks someone up. Also when it's found someone they arrive a lot quicker than they did in the previous souls games for me.

Also when I tried to summon someone it said a bell maiden arrived and began ringing a sinister bell? Does this mean if someone was around ringing their sinister bell they would have invaded me? If so that's genius. You open yourself up to co-op and can accidently invite invaders. I think thats a great system.

Tried that and it didn't work for me sadly

Just a random thought: In other souls games you could quit out of the game the second you landed before you died. Maybe that is possible in BB as well? Timing was kinda tight though. You'd just enter the game where you landed before taking damage.

Oh my gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwd

Finally summoned someone after, what, 45 minutes of trying? And I died at the first ice barrage from the sky lmao. Is there a reliable way to dodge this attack? I always try dodging left or right but 90% of the time, one piece hits me and then the rest combo me to death.

Yes it's got an A scaling in ARC but what I meant is you won't see any benefit from that if the base damage is not ARC so using a fire gem for example.

Then it would ignore the scaling from STR and SKL, you can see that by putting a fire gem on a weapon all its damage becomes ARC.

So it's a good ARC weapon for sure but your points in STR and SKL outside of what was needed for using it won't be much use if that's the way you go.

I know about the softcap concept but I am unsure about what weapon I will use in the end. If the blades of mercy are good then going to 50 SKL seems like the way to go. If not a ludwig on 25/25 STR/SKL is probably better. Decisions, decisions.

Ahh! So even if it has an A ARC scaling, you don't get any benefit of it unless you use a magic gemstone? Didn't know that, I though it would apply the ARC scaling at base.
This changes everything lol Thanks!

Sorry I can't help you about the Blades, never used them. I did read they're very good in PvP but hard against bosses due to range, but I dunno.

these chalice posts make me want to take a break from the main story and explore them. Think I'll do Vicar Amelia and then try the dungeons out.

BTW, after the vicar, do you explore behind the cathedral? there is a staircase either side - one goes through a cave to what I assume are
the forgotten woods,
and the other looks like it might be a closed off area with a big guy in it.

Apart from that I can't think of anywhere else to go - there was a big gate down in old yarnham but I don't know if that opens?

Not sure about the pvp in this game so far. When you get a good match it's awesome but those are just too few and far between. Here's the problems as I see it.

- The match making is too slow. Compared to dark souls 2 where it was pretty much instant, huge step back.
- The load times also add to the waiting. And when you come back from an invasion it doesn't refill your viles and bullets which means regular trips to the hunter's dream and...more load times.
- It is too difficult to prevent healing and with most people having at least 10 viles this lead to long drawn out fights. Weapons aren't quite strong enough to take someone out quickly, not giving them chance to heal. At least in my experience.
- Finally and perhaps most annoyingly, the bell maiden system means that the majority of the time you're gonna be fighting multiple foes unless you're in the 2 areas that already have maidens.

I loved the pvp in DS2 and played it for a looong time, and I see great potenail in Bloodborne but at the moment there are just too many things holding it back. Hopefully they add an arena in dlc with a no healing rule.

She just kicked me and co-op buddies ass in NG+. We got her to half before he got wrecked and I lasted about another 10 seconds :-(

Doesn't help that I have different weapon that basically rules out the gameplan I finally beat her with 1st time around either.

Wondering about the sinister bell thing too. Only been invaded once and it wasnt when I was trying to summon.

It's a known bug, it's pretty shitty. Every time I went down I sent the elevator back up just out of caution. Hopefully it's addressed in the patch.

The next patch the game is getting is supposed to address this.

Also, I have a question regarding the Cathedral area:
has anyone been able to unlock the door right next to the chest?

Just going into the same dungeon doesnt work that well sadly.
Lets say your friend is doing a dungeon and is stuck on the third boss and wants your help. If you use his glyph code and enter the dungeon you can't join him. The summoning bell doesn't work in layer 1 + 2 for your friend because both bosses are dead and you can't progress past layer 1 because you haven't killed anything yet. You would have to kill the first two bosses before you can help him.
I really hope the altar fixes that problem but haven't had time to test it yet.

People always claim to do a bunch of dodge rolls or run towards the boss, but when I did that I was always hit once nonetheless.

The best techniques I came up with are these:

a) If you see the monster summoning its ice barrage, look up at the sky and try to understand their pattern as quick as possible. You can see them falling from the sky and how they fall, but it's hard to pull off.

b) This is the best one I found: if he does the attack, use lock-on on one of the spiders and sidestep like a madman. Sidesteps have more invincibility frames than other dodge options and therefore the chance to get hit is way lower than doing the other stuff. In fact I managed to dodge all ice rocks several times and just once fucked up, but still: I think this is the best way.

Hey guys, I just cleared the first chalice dungeon at lvl 24, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if there's a recommended range for these things or if they just scale with your level?
Wondering if there's any point in trying the next one right now.

Is there somewhere a good list of the optional areas and bosses?
Off the top of my head:
- Cleric Beast
- Old Yharnam and Blood Starved Beast
- The abandoned workshop
- Henwick Charnel Land and the witches
- Cainhurst Castle and Matyr Logarius
- Iosefka's Clinic
- Darkbeast Paarl
- Nightmare Frontier and Amigdala
- Upper Cathedral Ware, The Orphanage, Celestial Emissary and Ebrietas
- Gehrman and Moon Presence, depending on the ending you choose

Basically half of the game is optional :p

Is it just me that its in central yarhnan for hours leveling up the character?:D
I cant be the only chicken, am i?:S
Nope I ran around there for ages before finally grinding Gascoigne out, Central Farnham was a great intro area for me as it emphasised the hunt for shortcuts not lamps and chatting to every window/door. Such a great tutorial zone that avoided making me feel like I'm wearing training wheels.

Is that the door after that
big guy with a ball?
. I was wondering too how you open it. How about that gate in the bsb area to the right? How do you open that?

If you killed
Amygdala
you can TP to the Lecture Hall. Its the higher tombstone right before the chapel in the hunter's dream

How about that gate in the bsb area to the right? How do you open that?

You need to defeat
Darkbeast Paarl
and you will open the access. But it's really just a dead end as it's only a one way road

I'm thinking you would have been through the
lecture hall
if you've beaten
amygdala
. Unless there's another way there that I don't know about

What the hell lol. That looked scary and intense. Hilarious that you were just rolling around everywhere trying to escape with minimal damage.

Honestly has no idea what to do lol. Probably just going to avoid that whole courtyard if I can. At times the frame rate in that place can get down to like under 10 fps, it's nuts.

Can the BSB be parried? Very low on ammo stocks and need to know if I'll be wasting my time with that method.
It's the easiest boss in the game to parry. One of his
most predictable attacks is the one where he swings with his right arm (YOUR left). He does that 90% of the time, even during phase 2.

Thanks, I'll keep these in mind. The next time I manage to summon someone, I'm staying the hell away from Rom though and hope my co-operator is a good player lol

I only just started playing. Here's two spoilerific questions.

1. When do I get some points of Insight? I know that some item grants it.

2. When do I get to summon other players to help me?
