Watching the Daredevil series, it is difficult not to draw comparisons with the recent Christopher Nolan Dark Knight films. Daredevil, as conceptualised in this series, is based heavily off the 1980’s Daredevil comics penned by writer Frank Miller, who later went on to redefine Batman through Batman: Year One and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. These books were a significant influence on Nolan’s Batman films.
More than just sharing the Frank Miller DNA, it’s interesting to note how many cues Daredevil takes from The Dark Knight, specifically. This is a grounded, real world hero who operates in a tangible space. Every punch thrown in the film is felt and a punch is often not quite enough to take out an enemy in the world of Daredevil. Unlike most depictions of violence on TV, when facing an enemy, if Daredevil punches them he needs to keep on punching them until they stay down. This is a brutal, cold, and violent superhero series. And it’s absolutely captivating to watch.

Just as Daredevil owes a debt of gratitude to The Dark Knight, it also takes many cues from The Raid and The Raid 2. While the action scenes are rarely as visceral as either Raid films, the scenes feel just as real.

Daredevil is compelling, wonderful TV that will hopefully find an audience beyond fans of the Marvel superhero films. This is a dark, nuanced TV series that is worthy of a wide audience. Daredevil is utterly fantastic and demands that you use all of your senses while watching.

The pulpy style and brutality (torture is one of Daredevil’s tools) clearly seek a higher sense of realism, which must be balanced against the notion of a blind superhero who can shimmy up walls and whose spectacularly hearing lets him to function, among other things, as a human lie detector. Helpfully, Cox brings the necessary mix of grit and Marvel-esque self-doubts to the dual role.
By that measure, Marvel has shrewdly expanded its portfolio, and Netflix has upped its must-have quotient with a fiercely loyal segment of consumers. Viewed that way, costume or no costume, “Daredevil” looks dressed for success.

Daredevil was well-worth the wait, and breaks the Marvel movie mold with bone-crunching delight. It’s everything Nolan’s Batman never had time to explore, everything Arrow wants to be without network boundaries, and exactly the street-level drama Marvel needs to complete its superhero world.

I'm not going to say much but since those reviews are out I'll throw in my two cents for now:

I've seen a couple of episodes. I really, really like what I saw and I think people are really going to dig it. Marvel is definitely making good on this being the darker, messier side of the MCU.

The Daredevil series, at least based on the first five installments, is one of the best encapsulations of a lot of superheroic themes that I’ve seen thus far in live-action. It features a deeply flawed hero, whose mission is painfully open-ended and who’s in danger of losing his soul in the fight against people massively more powerful than himself. It’s a must-watch, not just for fans of the comic or of superhero comics, but for anyone who loves great action movies or great heroic narratives.

It's beautifully shot (if a bit dark at times), with a look that is far more True Detective than the perpetually sunny Agents of SHIELD. It even feels more cinematic than several of Marvel's theatrical offerings. The first two episodes, for example, are directed by Phil Abraham, who has several episodes of Mad Men to his directing credit, but who also served as cinematographer on dozens of episodes of The Sopranos, which may help explain this show's distinctly HBO-ready look.

If this is the level of quality we can expect from future Marvel Netflix series AKA Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders, then I suspect we're in for a special couple of years. Daredevil is the first superhero TV project that truly feels like it's aiming higher. Don't make any other plans when it's time to start watching..

Please be nice people, and filter out any spoilers for those of us who'd rather go in blind and do not possess a radar sense to avoid spoilers.

"I can’t sing Marvel’s Daredevil’s praises enough. Visually the series is beautiful. The writing is smart, sharp, and leaves you on the edge of your seat. Fans looking for action will find the best choreographed sequences the MCU has seen to date – as well as the most ferocious. By capturing the human element, Marvel’s Daredevil proves you don’t need to be super-powered to be a superhero."

My most anticipated Marvel production ever. This is way better than Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and all that.

To show self restraint and watch an episode a day carrying me all the way to the AoU release night or to binge watch it in a day...

I have no self restraint

9 More days!

This is my most anticipated television show ever. I've always wanted a Daredevil series-not a movie-a series. Long form storytelling. For Daredevil, especially-it's critical to tell the story this way.

I've never really been into the Daredevil character, and most of Marvel's movie output has been just ok for me (the only one I really like is the original Iron Man, and the Avengers has its moments), but for some reason I'm really excited for this.

He's just trying to make his city a better place.

Reading Miller's Man Without Fear now. Can definitely see the influence on the show, even in the trailers.

Now Marvel fans who smashed The Dark Knight realism will shout praises to this series and show how brilliant and landscape changing it is.

That said, I can't wait.

If this becomes extremely popular, I wonder if Marvel will consider moving some of these heroes into the avengers realm or if they;d rather pretend they don;t exist as part of the MCU.

Nice. So glad this follows the DC formula rather than the MCU movie formula. The Batman movies are still my favorite and now I'm looking forward to this show. I hope it leads the way to a Punisher show on Netflix.

As an aside, I just started reading the Waid Daredevil run. It is a lot more fun and lighthearted and it was what I was expecting this show to be like. Glad I was wrong, although I am enjoying the Waid version too.

There naturally looms the possibility that something could go horribly wrong quality-wise in the final eight episodes of Daredevil’s first season, but the first five lay down such an epically gripping and shocking foundation that it’s truly hard to imagine things taking a negative turn. It’s smart, entertaining, and has moments so shocking that you’ll have to repress screams. Suffice it to say, Marvel and Netflix have another big winner on their respective plates.

Good thing I started in on the Bendis run of Daredevil. Really awesome, so I'm super psyched. I know it draws more form the Miller side, but let's face it: Good DD is good DD no matter who writes it.
