Turok: Dinosaur Hunter - Now at 60fps!

1440X1080 w/ 8X SGSSAA >> GeDoSaTo Bilinear (N64 style baby) Lottes Shader >> 320X240 = 50% GPU usage @ 60fps

I had Turok and never got anywhere with it without using tons of cheats. Platforming in first person in heavy fog with limited lives is just... not fun. However, the fact that Turok always looks like he's drinking the keys he picks up is pretty great.

there's a nice trick in the game keep the map up and time your jumps with it you will never fail once you get use to it. Judging by sight just screws you too much.

I would love to play Turok 2 again. I don't have the cartridge anymore, don't know what happened to it.

I can honestly hear the tribal drums and the primal cat roar as I view that screen.

Cost me £70 on import. It was worth it.

Do you have the ability to screencapture from your n64 per chance / nice camera? I would love to compare the GeDoSaTo settings to the real thing.

No. I'm afraid I don't. Sorry.

I could take a screen shot with my iPhone if that would help.

I stole one of Dark10x's screens from a previous thread and tried to make a comparison. Unfortunately... downsizing an image to the same dimensions causes a coloured moiré pattern to form.

You can see cool differences like how the AA causes a better reconstruction of the polygons and detail on the fire, plant, and key mantle. Or how AF (and SGSSAA) causes the textures to not blur to a flat green.

Original without the downsize problem:

It's a tad over exposed but that's what it looks like.

Seeds of Evil and Shadow of Oblivion was damn good games.

In fact, Shadow of Oblivion reminds me a lot of Half Life, looking back...

Rage Wars was as fun as GoldenEye and Perfect Dark IMO. Some of the best couch multiplayer ever.

Seems high.

Turok 2 is my favorite fps ever. Still replay it up to the last boss occasionally. Never can beat him though! 1+2 with 60fps, nicer draw distance, and normal controls would be amazing.

Actually! Just being on the VC would be amazing!

Normal controls? Nah. Turok Controls are the best control system for FPS.

It's pretty terrible, but it's also masking the fact that the level geometry loops around on itself in inherently unrealistic ways. Like, there's probably another canyon directly above Turok's head at any given moment, which is obscured by the fog but would look hilarious without it.

Do you have any evidence of this? That sounds super interesting.

Good job Dictator, wish I had the PC version still. Nice going, the first is the best one.

man the 2nd one is really bad and doesn't hold up, just watched a friend play it. Also has a bad framerate.

1st game is legendary so good job.

My ultimate gaming achievement was memorizing the code that unlocked EVERYTHING. Forgot how many characters, but it was alot.

If that could be fixed I'd love to replay the game. A Turok 1+2 "remaster" would be fantastic.

I'd be in for the Trilogy (+ unlockable Rage Wars). 3 would have been much better I think, but really was held back from a technical standpoint. I wanted to see where the story went, but the performance was horrible. Two had some awesome weapons. If they did the series justice, I think it'd still have legs. The most recent one wasn't all that bad.

Turok 2 Seeds of Evil is one of the best shooters ever made.

That said playing any of the N64 games at 60 FPS sounds amazing, considering 2 could barely keep it's framerate steady went action was happening.

Turok's animation when he falls off a cliff is hilarious, he's like a cartoon character. His scream makes it even funnier.

It was even funnier if you could lodge yourself in a corner when falling. His fall speed would be extremely slow as he did that animation + sound

He touched the black heart of a mod
Man, I really want a new Turok. And I want it to be as outlandish as the very first one. 2008 looked to be a little too inspired by Gears of War for it's own good.

scanlines or without?

Your choice. Both would arguably be the best!

Thanks! Has anyone other than I tried out the 60fps trick yet?

And about Turok 2: last time I played it, it definitely did not hold up as well as the first game. Mainly due to some enemy respawning decisions... and levels which make a lot less sense than even the first games. Plus those whole battle arena levels... it was defintely incredibly confusing.

It also has a less focused aresenal even though the guns are interesting.
That's great and all, but did they get rid of the 10 feet max draw distance?

This will never go away. You would have to rewrite the whole way the game fraws in objects :p Also the game is balanced with the fog in mind, they definitely use it as a gameplay mechanic.

Turok 2's framerate is laughable, plus big empty levels isn't exactly thrilling.

Not exactly defending Turok 1's progression but man, least stuff happened.

Oh man, did not even realize this was on PC. I spent so much time with this game and Turok 2 on the N64, it was so good, fog and crappy platforming and all.

Now I need to hunt down a copy for my N64, I wonder if I still have one in my collection?

Thanks for taking me back to 1995!
