AngryJoe receives a Nintendo copyright claim. Hope they enjoyed the ad revenue; Done

Just looked through his videos. Doesn't seem he makes much videos about Nintendo anyway.

Unless Nintendo took them all down, which i doubt.
That was his first one. In the follow up tweet to the one in the OP he says he bought a wii u, 4 wii pro controllers to start covering wii u games, but not anymore because of this

https://twitter.com/AngryJoeShow/status/584274375546777600

It's not enough that I bought a WiiU, 4 pro controllers, 4 Wiimotes, 4+ games (~$900). They need to monetize when I share my play sessions.

But yeah my take on this is Nintendo has a royally fucked up YT policy, with the way the wii u is selling you'd think they'd want as much publicity as possible to try to sell more units. Either that or they internally think its a market failure and are trying to recoup as much $ they can by taking yt ad revenue

I trust Angry Joe more than i trust Nintendo. And i think AJ's channel is a good channel to showcase games and gaming products and might be cheaper than hiring some advertisers.
So i take AJ side on this.

I disagree with Nintendo's YT policy and think their new YT program is ethically bankrupt (Youtubers submitting their content to YT for approval with Nintendo reserving the right to not accept your video, or just "work for" Nintendo by having your whole channel in the program...not exactly how you get critical coverage and something that would never be accepted on actual games journalist sites), this shouldn't exactly come as a surprise for Joe.

You can't be serious.

There absolutely is good advertising, advertising is meant to show your product/service/ the thing you want to sell in a good light so you end up selling more of it.

Thats not what letting rondom people make money off your game on the intenet is.

tell that to the gta developers and all the free press they got by the guys calling their game horrible and immoral...

Yeah, about the "free" advertising, I think any company would prefer to have a controlled advertising over the "free" one. He sounds so entitled.

Yeah, and the drama is not new. He's living Nintendo every 3 months. Really classy.

Kinda not the same thing

Anyone getting paid to sit on their ass and play games needs to count their blessings and stop sulking whenever things don't go their way.

What if it's a "Let's Watch" series, where he narrates over "Let's Play" videos?

That's original content, right?

If he wants to take a small piece out and comment on it in a video then yes, it's original content. Plenty of people take bits out of other youtubers videos as references or commenting on it.

Yep.
"Give me a Wii U so I can play those games for you, my fans"
"I CAN'T MAKE MONEY! THIS IS DUMB!"
If you're going to attack someone get the facts right. He didn't want a Wii U, fans started a fund for it and he said "fine, we hit this goal I'll get a Wii U."

i mean that you posting his content it's not the same of him playing a game (per se a transformative act, since he his playing an active part) and commenting on it.

if you make a video with his comment while commenting, criticizing it,then as long as you don't post the whole thing,it's fair use

but you have to play an active part..make the video your own

most of the "let's player" have their subscribers not thanks to the games (since most of them play the same games),but because of their personalities, their arguments etc..basically thanks to the active part of the video

Very valid points.

Although, I'd say that while personalities may be important, it isn't the main draw to their channels. If AngryJoeShow reviewed fruit or paint supplies, I doubt he would have the same subscriber base he does by featuring popular videogames.

He won't make any because he can't monetize them?

Sounds like he doesn't care about his fans or gaming, really.
It is really not. The thing is Nintendo don't take down his video. They only flag it, so they can still get some chump change and still got the coverage from the videos. That is what pissed off youtuber the most.

BatDan

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.

Still, it's pretty stupid that his fans donated money to him to get a Wii U, and now he refuses to cover it for them because "Wah I can't make money"

But he knew about Nintendo's policies before. He knew there was a high chance for the videos to be taken down.

Why even accept the money for a Wii U then ? If you are going to cry the first time you get a takedown.

lol at people talking about Nintendo defense force while most of people are not defending that Nintendo's move may not be smart but more like AngryJoe and a lot of Youtubers are acting like they have a sort of super influence on sales or whatever.

If they started to talk about some specific games it's because they know that the subject will bring them more views.

And he's going to call it all off because he's not making money on a segment of a uploaded livestream video?

Jesus, Joe.

It's clearly a loss for nintendo, it's not like i wouldn't play the game if i watched those videos, it's the other way around (they are, in a way, "incentives" to go and buy X game you found interesting).

But hey, they just lost some potential customers, no big deal. Guess the Wii U is doing so good they don't need more people to be aware of it's existence.

He has 2 million subscribers.

Nintendo and their products just stopped potentially reaching 2 million people.

Think about it.

How many Nintendo/Wii U games has Angry Joe covered in the last year? How many views?

Sad that this isn't the first time, Joe does this every couple of months. Dunno if it gets him extra hits/likes/follows or whatever but he keeps drudging up the Nintendo YouTube policies and acting shocked when it happens when he clearly knows about them. Kinda pathetic really.

You know the defenders in this thread are right. News websites should not put ads on their webpage because they are making money based on not their content.

People in this thread is hilarious. If you want to criticising someone ,get your fact right. Stop misinformed other people. Also he is talking about ads revenue not free advertising.

For Joe's typical reviews / top 10 list videos I understand his point of view but for let's plays? Ehh...

If you are doing a review of a game then using gameplay footage should fall under fair use. If you have a top 10 style list of games and use gameplay footage it should also fall under fair use. If you do a lengthy let's play or god forbid let's play the entire game then I personally don't think it's fair use. The courts should really decide this.

I was going to side with Joe, but after seeing this:
He didn't want a Wii U, fans started a fund for it and he said "fine, we hit this goal I'll get a Wii U."
can't say I agree with his rage.

How strict is Nintendo on videos showing their content? Can it only encompass up to a certain amount of seconds, or is it if you have any footage that you'll receive a strike?

Lol, as if he didn't know/want this to happen, he's done this dance with Nintendo before. Dude just wants attention.

Most of his career he was all about Xbox Xbox Xbox
After a few years he discovered PC
It took him until PS4 to finally bother looking at Playstation.
He only has a Wii U because he "asked" his fans to donate him one.

Also, this happened to him before. Over Mario Kart 8. He's raging over something that he knew would happen. I think he might have a problem.
Huh had no idea he had fans donate so he could buy a wii u? Was this documented somewhere?

Jesus, Joe.

If you get too many take down notices they suspend your entire account.

Josh reacts to The Angry Joe Show!

He needs a hook for da kidz though. Passive Josh reacts to The Angry Joe Show?

I 'get' Joes response but it does strike a little of throwing your toys outta the pram

Again, I'm really not someone who personally gives a fuck about let's plays, but let's be realistic, why would he spend time producing content that he won't make money on?

Not to say he's in the right if the WiiU was bought from crowdfunding, but it doesn't take a genius to know that he's going to spend his efforts on stuff he can monetize.

Pity that Nintendo does this. I don't even watch the guys reviews (too long with info that could be condensed into 10 minutes without the antics) but this is something where I'll stand on his side. And now back to playing smash online

DashieXP has a lot of Nintendo videos, mixed with other console and pc content and doesn't seem to get flagged.

Except he didn't get a "takedown", the video wasn't removed by Nintendo.
It only got an ad revenue flag, meaning the video is still up, but now Nintendo makes the money.
It's shit yes, but Joe knows this happens and he's overreacting to something he knew would happen because it happened before! That's one reason why I have trouble sympathizing with his "plight".

Again, I'm really not someone who personally gives a fuck about let's plays, but let's be realistic, why would he spend time producing content that he won't make money on?

A reviewer/Let's Player lives or dies by their fans. If his fans were willing to donate money to him to play Wii U games, the least he could do is indulge them.
Instead he's just going to take his ball and go home because he can't make money. This in turn would piss off the fans that donated.

Ah nintendo and youtube , it's like 2 different oils that can't mix together properly.

Nintendo POV on youtube users is IMO , so backwards it's ridiculous.

Poor guy.
Can't get money for his hard working of sitting on his ass playing games.

This youtube money shit should end forever and you would see how many of those "gamers" are really passionate about the games they play and continue to upload videos.
