Pre order the Wii U version if you want the Wii version too. Sooner than expected, hope at least one of the two versions is good. I've been waiting a long time for it

I already pre-ordered via Amazon.com.
Now I just need to buy a Wii U someday...

Can't wait to hear impressions of the Wii version from y'all. I'd laugh if this was releasing on the 27th so I can gift it to my mother for her birthday.

Forgive the brain fart, as I feel like this has probably been answered already, but will the digital version of the Wii U game also come with a code for a Wii download version as well somehow? If not, I think I will probably want to pick up a physical copy. It seems like the Wii version is the most appealing one.

(Also, am I right in thinking the Wii U version is built on an upscaled engine of the 3DS game and that it's an expanded (but different) version of the 3DS game? I dunno, I could be way off there. Just having difficulty keeping all three versions straight!)

No, just physical.

I can't find gameplay of the final Wii version at all, only the Wii U and 3DS versions. You'd think people would've been rushing to record footage. :(

Getting the first print of this, really curious about the Wii game. I remember looking forward to this game back when it was still expected to come out on Wii.

Already have a preorder from Gamestop, will also grab from Best Buy probably this week. Hope I'm not too late to also get the Wii version, I don't know how many they're making

May I have a cookie?
sorry for slacking off on the import OT, btw.

the Nintendo Direct threw a big wrench in my ability to focus on that :D

seems like there isn't much demand right now anyway?

edit: here's 11 minutes of retail copy Wii footage! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYVPeJtq88g

That looks like everything I've wanted out of this game ever since I first heard of it!

It's the true 3d spiritual successor to NiGHTS and Sonic fans have been waiting for!

I'd pay full price for just the Wii version

Every Wii U copy they make will have it. Every copy you buy on launch day is a first print copy.

It's on my radar, will wait to see how well it survived development hell before I buy.

if you're only interested in the wii version (and you probably should be) it was never actually in development hell. prope finished the game on schedule almost 4 years ago but kadokawa held off on it until the 3ds port was finished. then they decided to port the 3ds version to wii u and here we are.

i've played the 3ds version extensively by now (got to the end of the game). i've also had a little bit of time with the wii game and the wii u game (just the first two levels). what sort of surprised me was that the level design was somewhat the same but the structure between the two versions is actually pretty different. it would be more accurate to say the 3ds version is a sort of remake of the wii version in a way the 2010 goldeneye game was a remake of the 1997 goldeneye game.

Does the final release of the 3DS version run any better than the demo? Cuz the demo ran so poorly it had me puking. It was capped at 20 fps and often dropped well below that.

i can't say for sure. i never played the demo and i haven't seen any videos of it for comparison. also, i am a graphics caveman and don't know much about framerates and resolution (which i know is not being discussed here).

I'm interested in this game, but the gameplay looks really confusing. I don't get how the Wii version could be better than the WiiU version. Is there no wii remote support for the wiiU version?

I guess it just came out last week, will await some import impressions.

It's not a matter of supporting the Wiimote or not; the Wii version and the Wii U/3DS version are substantially different games.

People are just inferring that the Wii version must be better because it's the untouched Yuji Naka version and because Naka is quick to stress that he didn't work on the other versions, but I haven't seen anything that makes either version look all that interesting, frankly.

the wii u version supports the gamepad, classic controller pro (and i think standard classic controller if that's the case?), and the pro controller. the structure of the game is such that you are encouraged to explore the levels and find different places in the level for power ups and collectible coins.

the wii version is only controlled by the wii remote. by that i mean no nunchuck controls. you point at the screen and hold b and that's where rodea will start walking. you make him fly by pressing a. because of the way it controls, the levels are a lot more narrow, and the point of the game is more along the lines of getting through a level right. coins in this version are locked in secret 2d rooms that can only be unlocked if you have enough gravitons (those yellow bits), and aren't hidden around on the actual level.

Sounds....interesting. Really shocked this is getting localized to be honest.

Really surprised they went through the trouble of changing the gameplay in the WiiU version and not just making it an HD'd port. It's a little disappointing because the game looks like it was designed around the use of IR.

i think the game was unable to work with touch controls the same way it worked on the wii with pointer controls, so when they started making it a 3ds game they had to start changing things, and then maybe it got to be where the entire game didn't work as originally planned. the wii u version seems like an upgrded port of the 3ds game, with better graphics and better camera control (the right stick).

Thanks for the impression AniHawk. Looking at the Wii gameplay video linked and having played the 3DS demo, there's really a lot of gameplay difference than I originally thought.

yeah the wii game plays more like a mario game or a sonic game. rodea's tail indicates the amount of damage he can take while in the 3ds/wii u game he has a health meter. little power ups are found around the levels and they're what let him zoom around. guns and other upgrades are per-level and disappear when the level's done. i assume this encourages the player to keep abilities for better paths forward, in the 3ds/wii u version, the extra abilities are always selectable from the touch screen or the d-pad and don't disappear after a level is done. i think this is to encourage replayability of previous levels.

That's exactly what i was going to ask yesterday after seen the video, if it could be played with one hand (Wii Remote only). So thanks for clearing that up.

After hearing this i want the game, this is the type of diiferent mechanics that the Wii Remote allows over a traditional controller that i always liked to see developers explore.
Just wandering how much the game will cost?

Do you have any other impressions? Also can you make an assessment of the game's quality? For example, does it remiinds of you of the good or bad days of Sonic team?

Standard retail price: $60 for the Wii U version, $40 for the 3DS version. All first-print copies of the Wii U version come bundled with the original Wii game on a separate disc. (The JP version comes in a cardboard sleeve with individual cases for each disc, no idea how NISA's handling it in each region.)

English dub? or Japanese?

English dub confirmed, dual-audio is still up in the air.

Thanks for the information.

Too high of a price for me, at 40 i would have buyed just for the curiosity factor.

Of course i do understand the realities of a small publisher and the risks of localising something like this. But now my purchase rests on the game's quality amounting to good. Not expecting something in the master piece realm but a competent game.

And is the Wii Version im interested in mostly, if there was some way to let the publisher know some people might be interested in that version alone. Separated purchase might not be a bad idea to consider.

There's plenty of time until September so who knows.

Thanks for the impressions, Ani. Is the aesthetic and violence level similar to Kid Icarus: Uprising? (i.e. not that bad)

I have a quick question - anyone who used Paypal to preorder back in April, did you notice a cancellation for your preorder payment on Paypal's site? I just caught this while going through my Paypal statement for April. No emails about a cancellation, and my order status seems to still be good. Was that just some check to make sure funds were there, and I'll really be charged in Sept? I know credit card companies will sometimes do holds, I didn't think Paypal did too.
