Smallville is kind of a disaster

Total babe.

100% babe. Easily the babest babe they've had on the show, and because it's the CW every single female must be 66% supermodel at least.

That was such a depressing episode. :(

Yeah it was the first time Tom Welling actually managed to act with what seemed like real emotion probably because he was also legit sad by it.

I thought that was bullshit when they killed her off. Someone with teleporting powers should be like, the least killable person ever.

She had some magical plot device that prevented her from teleporting when the guy hung her. It was really damn dark for the show honestly.

Oh man speaking of love interests and red K, remember his teleporting girl friend that was a total psycho in the first episode but was literally the cutest thing ever in the episode were they killed her off?

Remember that hilariously raunchy scene when she gives him the Red Kryptonite and is basically in that hotel room with Clark all like "give me little baby Kents, let's go get married!"

I loved her.

How many times did people get knocked out. Must have been a running joke.

Best Lex and Lois.

Aquamans teeth seen from space.

I definitely don't agree that the first few seasons were good at all. The concept was still fresh in it's own world, but the acting (Rosenbaum and Glover aside) is at it's worst and the mystery of the week shit is never good

I agree with this. The first few seasons are still terrible. I couldn't handle the reused plot lines and awful Clark and Lana by season 3 end. I stopped after that. I tried season 5 because I wAnted to push through for the justice league stuff but I couldn't do it. It was just too awful. The main thing I give the first few seasons aside from the luthors is you felt the show had promise as soon as it found its feet. You start to learn the show will never find its feet and the writers are perfectly happy with the shit they produced. I've never seen a show that wasn't dbz that had so much damned filler.

I was so annoyed at the final episode. Here I was thinking finally, my God finally, they managed to convince Welling to put on the suit for five seconds as the the curtains close and series ends. Nope. Instead we get terrible CGI filled with awkward close-ups of Clark's face because he's so obviously not actually wearing the costume. It's actually kind of funny to watch it now, the idea that Welling was so stubborn that even after ten years he couldn't be arsed to put on the costume.

I thought they weren't allowed to show him all costumed up.

Perhaps he did try it on and it looked bad plus going by the budget of the last series, not worth going further. Don't think he was too buff in the end either.

I agree, OP. But man was that post long just like the drawn out seasons of Smallville :p

But the Smallville soundtrack always kept me glued. That series introduced me to the band Lifehouse.

I always felt like the show started weak. Then it got good. Then it got weird. Then it overstayed its welcome.

I liked Lois quite a bit though.

Smallville is a look into Arrow and Flash's future.

Enjoy guys.

Smallville had a bunch of issues with directly referencing or using actual DC villains/characters and even calling Clark, Superman which became a huge issue when the ratings demanded that seasons kept continuing. Flash and Arrow don't have this issue.

Arrow's biggest issue is that it's basically Batman in all but name, but of course DC doesn't want to do a proper Batman show(Gotham doesn't count) so they're just using Arrow as their avatar to play that out.

Flash is just fun, I think the villains are a little goofy/non-threatening outside of the Reverse-Flash, but then the Rogues have always been kinda goofy.

I bailed out during/after S4. It became boring and I wasn't feeling the magic and/or Native American storylines either. Plus, Supernatural came on after that and it was a far better show. Well, for a time. I checked back in every once in awhile and catch a random episode, only because it was on before Supernatural.

And if I'm not mistaken, did they not kill Lex? Always a baffling decision to me, since the show ends with Clark becoming Superman. Confusing as to why you'd get rid of Lex, especially when he's such a core villain not only to Superman, but in the DC mythos as a whole.

Also, remember Birds of Prey and how that was supposed to sync up with Smallville at some point? Man that show was terrible. Truly awful. Thankful it got cancelled, though when I was younger I enjoyed it far more than Smallville re-watched it a couple years ago and...well, poor decision.
If you want a non shite Superman growing up story, read Tom de Haven's "It's Superman!"

Or Superman For All Seasons.

First 5 seasons are great, the rest are trash, but since it was the only live action comic related show on TV i watch all 10 seasons, if we had Arrow or Flash on back then Smallville would have been ignored quickly..
To be fair, we wouldn't have Arrow or The Flash the way they are today without using Smallville as an example. Make of that what you will.
One of my favorite opening TV show song though...

Spoilers abound,just in case lol...
Dat is a big ol' nostalgia rush.

Show was a mess, moments of brilliance which ultimately end in disappointment.
I can only assume that is an example of the brilliance?

I remember the last two seasons when they didn't have the budget or a choreographer for fights and every single superpowered fight was just Clark throwing people through wooden chairs.

They didn't exactly kill Lex, they left his fate "ambiguous" when the actor bailed out, until S10 where there were Lex clones of all ages all over the place and then Lex appears as the president in a flash forward.

Yeah that's pretty much how Smallville does things.

Smallville also had the best live action Zatanna.

This is very true, although I think Smallville's biggest downfall was branching out too far into the DC universe. .They really should have kept shit locked down on focusing on just Clark.

This.

I watched the first two or three seasons because I like Superman and I will watch anything shot in Vancouver (my hometown), at least for a bit. But it was horrible on a number of levels. Acting was atrocious (again, Rosenbaum and Glover excluded and arguably Allison Mack too). The writing was even worse, with painfully on-the-nose dialogue, idiot plots all over the place, and unearned sentiment at the heart of every insincere episode. I viscerally hated Smallville back in those days, and then eventually I stopped watching it.

No flights
No tights

Fuck that noise!

Show lasted longer then the band that sang opening song. Each season had 5-6 great episodes but overall was disappointing

Welp, that's fantastic.

Brilliant, really.

Regardless, I do feel compelled to watch the entire series. I feel obligated, in a way.

I agree with the OP. Show had a great first few seasons then went batshit lazy and crazy. Writers really didn't know what to do with the characters or plot after high school.

Well said OP. First few season were good, then it turned into garbage. There was no long term plan for characters and story arc, so after a while none of it made any sense.

Let's not forget that Smallville is the biggest fucking "will they, won't they" circlejerk ever made. Incredibly annoying to watch.

The problem with Smallville is the cheese and ham kept going up as the budget went down. Arrow S03 (and 02) looked very dated and the CGI was pretty horrible. It will only get worse from here. The Flash will never look better than it is right now and eventually the shows will lose their location budget just like Smallville so it will all be set in badly created set pieces.

Mark my words. The CW doesn't mess around.

How? Just how was this show so successful? Started off ok but absolutely defecated on the characters and stories towards the end.

Lois was a great love interest but Lana...I kinda cringe anytime she showed up after awhile.
She ruined a large part of the show for me (lana).

I still can't believe how bad they dropped the ball on
Doomsday, he looks so fucking badass and the fight was over in like 2 goddamn seconds

Chloe was the only reason I kept watching after the show became garbage.

What made you decide to slog through the whole series? Jesus anyone would have told you to stay away. The show is a huge mess, it has it's highs but they never last very long.

And cmon as low as Arrow has reached this season it's still better than Smallville has ever been.

Problem with smallville is that they kept sticking to that no tights, no flight bullshit. At least let him fly, his cousin could do it from her first landing... Bleh.

Haha nostalgia mainly, I was sitting around last month and i was like "man I used to watch some of Smallville in high school I guess I'll see what ended up becoming of the series".

I don't really regret it, the rage I had was a lot of fun. Plus the moments when the show was great were way worth it.

Chloe was the only reason I kept watching after the show became garbage.

Definitely...until they totally ruined her as well :|

I think no tights was fine since the show was really about Clark Kent, but I agree he should have definitely been able to fly. Also let's be honest the show stopped being "Smallville" and should have just been renamed Metropolis. The only scenes that took place in Smallville after a while were at the Kent farm and the Talon.

the costumes other than lana bothered the hell out of me. we're in the mindset that no capes is a thing, which is why the flash, cyborg and aquaman fit well. then somewhere down the line they say fuck that, and we get the horrible justice society costumes(with the absolute garbage hawkman costume) and the ugly mess that was the blue beetle.

The blue beetle was on Smallville? I must have repressed that memory.

Blue Bettle was some struggle ass cosplay., I refuse to believe a professional costumer did that.
