Kind of depressing that Disgaea 5 didn't even make the top 30 this week. It sold what 22,000 during launch week? That series is dead or dying I'm guessing.

03./00. [3DS] Xenoblade Chronicles 3D |new 3DS| <RPG> (Nintendo) {2015.04.02} (¥3.996) - 56.932 / NEW <58,66%> [Units Shipped => ~97k]

Media Create also points a loss of sales opportunity for Bloodborne, since was out of stock at many places.

I think it's plausible to see how retailers understocked Bloodborne. I don't know if this is accurate, but I think I remember reading something that Japanese retailers can't sell-back overstocked games they've purchased from publishers. Whereas American retail chains can. This is why Japanese retailers are more reluctant to purchase high of a shipment because they can't refund unsold merchandise so the retailer takes a loss.

Also, I think people are grossly underestimating digital sales. To be able to download a game without having to leave home, deal with clerks, buses, trains, traffic, probably get the game early if pre-load is supported, not have to deal with changing out discs or running down your disc drive. A lot of pro's to going digital.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 didn't do too bad after all adding digital sales.

Mm

Famitsu is listing Resident Evil Revelations 2 as a ¥741 game released on February 25th...
It doesn't say anything about if it's a specifical chapter. I don't know how there're counting this. All chapters purchased together? Just the full version?

Judging by the price it doesn't seem the case.

I am sure people will still ask for more proof regarding the game being sold out. i am not saying it would have lit up the charts if it was in stock but the drop would have been lower.

i almost feel like some people want games/hardware to fail or do bad just so they can make fun of its sales or get satisfaction in calling it a "bomba". the worst are the ones that change narratives depending on their platform preference.

Huh? But I checked Amazon.jp this morning and it was in stock. I don't understand why MC and Tsutaya are lying. That game is a huge bomb.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.

You're arguing Xenoblade 3ds is a huge bomb? On what grounds?

Given its very limited install base + niche title + downport, it debuted a good bit higher than I would have expected it to

If that 60% week one sell thru is accurate, it's probably right on target too

I believe they are referring to it being out of stock last week. So this mornings stock wouldn't represent that.

Where does the 25% number come from? I believe that 10% were reported by Yoshida, or am i mixing that up with another game?

someone said BB will sell 200K at retail and 250K with DD sales at the end. At least that's down from DD number for all VITA games are 30% of retail.

First Day Sell-Through {2015.04.09}

[PS4] Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin <RPG> (From Software) (¥5.962) - 60% It seems high, but the truth is that there's almost nobody left to play that game, so the shipment is low.

Mm? You say that I'm forgetting something?

[PC] Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin <RPG> (From Software) (¥5.962) - Ah yeah, PC version. These days PC gaming is not that popular, right?

Mm? It wasn't that?

[PS4] Bloodborne # <RPG> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2015.03.26} (¥7.452) - This isn't a new release, but this weekend a new shipment arrives. That's your chance

[PS3] [PSV] Xblaze Lost: Memories <ADV> (Arc System Works) (¥6.264) - 20% Yeah, it's a niche game, but still I want to say if there's any fish in this puddle?

[3DS] Raishi <SLG> (Klon) (¥6.264) - 30% that's bad too

I love how the blogger trolls.

The game is solid so I've heard. That being said they should have just released the Wii version back in 2011 maybe?
The release timing can really affect unit sales (same goes to Disgaea 5 and such).

It is solid from what I've heard from friends over in Japan (and from our OT), but its got a lot of things going against it.

Maybe WoM will carry it over to 5k!

not in Japan and not on console

Comes with the territory of being the top console in the world. Sells great everywhere except Japan and one of the highest rated games right now isn't selling like hotcakes? That's going to attract detractors like bees to honey.

Do you think a good portion of people bought the "Wii U version" of Rodea mostly to play the original Wii game? Clearly there was seemingly no demand for the 3DS version it seems like...
3DS owners had a demo to convince them not to buy.

I'd really like to know the digital numbers for this one. I really think the audience completely shifted to digital for this licence, and like Pocket Football Club in Europe, not many people see the point of just buying it retail for a code.
There's a physical game in the retail package and a code for the other system's version.

Rodea is making W101 look like a great success....

Btw, didn't a Lego game release the same day as Rodea? If so, it did more poorly than usual (they usually hit like 3-4K 1st week each so far except Undercover which does better?).

Looks like SCE/retailers were conservative about Bloodborne's sales. Not surprising conisidering the market situation.

I think its at 30k right now. Might crawl its way to 50k LTD. Its bad. Western sales still need to accounted to get a full picture but we never get sales info :/ . I doubt the series is going to be abandoned by NIS though.

Really?
20% of the LTD being digital sales would be basically unheard of, especially for a game of this kind.

Yeah expect 10% or at the very most 15%.

DQX 2nd expansion pack seems to performing well in pre-orders. Is the game a success, after all?

It most definitely is. The game was over a million even before the 3DS version came out, with the 3DS version Nintendo only DQX is also over a million. It is more successful than FFXI and FFXIV in Japan too. Subscriber numbers seem to be stable or even a bit up, going by participants in seasonal events with voting (Valentine event).

It also has gone a long way to improve the reputation of online games because although it has micro transactions and a f2p mobile companion app, it remains fair and non exploitative. They also keep working to make the game easy to play for people with little time.

For the release of version 3 they have another newcomer campaign as well. If you start playing between March 31th and June 30th, you can get a coffin skin for the dorboard:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9pJYZLxXD8

So I expect version 3 to give the game another small boost in sales. Having Xenoblade X and, later this year, #FE on the same platform should help the Wii U version too.

Cool, thanks for the info.

So it seems SQEX's choice to make the game a MMORPG was bad after all. I wonder whether we're going to see a PS4 version down the line, and a Western version.

Media Create's comment in English:

Media Create said:
Old titles such as last week's popular titles led market

・ Total software sales were 817 thousand copies, which were 63.60% compared to last week.
Due to intensive releases of popular titles last week, a ratio of new software sales to total software sales plunged from 69.55% last week to 40.29% this week.
Meanwhile, old software sales increased to 124.72% of last week, so old titles such as last week's popular titles led the whole market.

Sales of "Bloodborne" for the PS4 greatly decreased to 14.82% of last week (from 153 thousand copies last week to 23 thousand copies this week) because many retailers were out of the title and suffered a opportunity loss.

・ Debuting at the top spot, "3rd Super Robot Wars Z: Heaven Prison chapter" sold 230 thousand copies in 2 platforms (109 thousand copies for the PS3, 121 thousand copies for the Vita).
Its sales fell below combined sales of previous installment, "3rd Super Robot Wars Z: Time Prison Chapter" released in April 2014 for 2 platforms, which had sold 271 thousand copies (142 thousand copies for the PS3, and 128 thousand copies for the Vita).
As for the sales breakdown, sales for PS3 edition decreased by more than 30 thousand copies, while Vita edition kept almost the same sales volume as previous installment, so it can be said that Vita edition successfully kept fans of the franchise compared to PS3 edition.

・ "Xenoblade," which was the first exclusive title for the New3DS, sold 57 thousand copies (sell-through rate: 58.66%), falling below initial weekly sales of its Wii edition released in 2010 (83 thousand copies; sell-through rate: 76.29%).
Since sales of the New3DS system (the New3DS + the New3DS LL) slightly increased by 4 thousand consoles from last week, its hardware pulling effect is limited.

So final verdict is "did well, but could have done better. Should have no problem reaching its target in the upcoming weeks/months.

Curious about the potential impact of XCX, especially coupled with GW.

comparing a rpg with a rhythm game in my opinion is like comparing apples with oranges, or like comparing DQVIII with DQH, or FFXII with Dissidia, or Majora Mask with Zelda Musou

To be precise, the Persona fanbase is very faithful, to the point that buys even fighting games (Persona 4 Arena sold something like 200k units), so the comparison might not be that reaching.

so I'm waiting for your comparison between P&D Super Mario Bros and New Super Mario Bros 2, same IP same system

Lol. U are getting desperate there lol. One is P&D and one is Mario IP though.

Better comparison would be Etrian Odyssey vs Etrian Mystery Dungeon here. And we did see how EMD does pretty comparable to normal EO title.
