Media Create Sales: Week 13, 2015 (Mar 23 - Mar 29)

Discrepancies between Media Create and Famitsu are becoming bigger and frequent.

Media Create

[3DS] Xenoblade Chronicles 3D <RPG> (Nintendo) {2015.04.02} (¥3.996) - 56.932

Famitsu

[3DS] Xenoblade Chronicles 3D <RPG> (Nintendo) {2015.04.02} (¥3.996) - 43.762 <40-60%>

If we go by Media Create figures, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D did well. On the contrary, if we go by Famitsu numbers, then it had a mediocre performance.

Aostia

El Capitan Todd
To be precise, 3DS went up with respect to the previous week.

Xeno "New" exclusivity could have helped a bit?
Btw, I was referring (about 3DS sales) that during the first 2.5 months it seemed to hold better compared to last year compared to the latest weeks. I wonder when it will hit the 19 millions mark

Yep, 3DS started declining YOY, but I was pointing out that the platform is back to the top also thanks to its own merits, since it increased with respect to the previous week; if it stayed flat, PS4 would have been n.1 again. Btw, Xenoblade might have helped a tiny bit.

got it, you're right.
which could be the next big release for the console?
the main issue here to me (apart for the saturation of a dedicated device able to sell 18.5 millions pieces in Japan today) is the fact that almost all the interesting incoming games are sequels or, in any case, aimed at a target/demographic very similar to the one that already owns the console. Puzzle&Dragon x Mario, Fire Emblem If, YW spinoff, and so on...I really think that only a DQXI announcement could giev a significant bump to the console (let's not start the redundant DQXI discussion, it's just to make an example)

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
hiska, if you prepare the Media Create Top 20 (like you did the past week), I can open the thread, since it seems Chris is having problems again.

I wonder how long until N1 is gone themselves?

Pretty sure I saw someone last week (or two weeks ago) posting a japanese IR document, telling us that NIS profit was actually up year on year, because of the western market.

The thing is once shipment is done it really doesn't matter if it sells or not, so NIS isn't really going anywhere (the president's comment on Disgaea was just a joke anyway).

This makes May16 sad.

This was true, but, on next week's chart, now that it's not sold out anymore, the number isn't going to go up.

Yep, of course not.
But I expected ~200K for a PS4 exclusive game like Bloodborne.
In the end, retail + digital, ~250K is a good number in japan.

This mirrors the same debate people had last year in these topics. It's difficult to predict which software for 3DS will drive hw sales. Remember that people didn't even think YW2 would have driven hw sales because YW1 was already there... And then YW2 was a huge success and it increased 3DS weekyl sales by 50% during a slow period such as July (and then also September). So far, we have only safe-bets, such as Puzzle & Dragons, Yo-kai Watch and so on. Majora's Mask pushed hw a bit higher than usual, though.

I think Golden Week might be better than last year, because of Girl's Mode 3 and Puzzle & Dragons, along with Bravely Second. June should also be good with Fire Emblem and Rhythm Heaven. Then July with Yo-kai Watch Busters. I think it's ok if 3DS keeps getting a constant flow of games, so it can sell average until the holiday season.

Nintendo is launching a new Animal Crossing game which might be huge and drive N3DS hw sales.

Isn't that new Animal Crossing just a downloadable title? Maybe the NFC cards might start selling once it's out but that is all I can see.

It's not clear if it's retail or not afaik.

It's weird because it seems like Japan's the one region where NFC games haven't really taken off. Skylanders and Infinity have both been bombs and it's also Amiibo's weakest region. The new Amiibo collectibles (AC cards, Yoshi dolls) and Level-5's Snack World initiative will be interesting to watch.

We still don't know. It might be download only, and sold through the adapter.

It's me or 3DS numbers (all models) are awful?.

Maye it's you. 3DS is the best-selling hardware of the week, already ammassed 18.5m units. It also increased with respect to last week.

Little hw increase with a new3DS exclusive. I'd imagine that they aren't happy with the hardware boost, it seems that few people decided to make an upgrade for Xenoblade 3D.
Usually a port is a cheap and useful way to test the audience.

It's worth noting Xeno 3DS was released in budget price (well, sort of). I wonder if it helped or not.

Xeno 3D at 56k

PS4 met my expectations, Pretty much 25k+ onwards till May.

That Xbone surge though? I thought it wasn't gonna reach 50k LTD until May.

PS4 and Bloodborne dropped more drastically than I was expecting. Bloodborne has (had?) stock problems though. The summer drought begins...

And congrats to MS. Their Japan division must be proud of a 400%+ increase WoW and over 50k units sold*

*LTD

it's not what I am thinking, it's what we heard from reports to Japan

I do not expect anything cause I don't know Marvelous when and how much will restock, but if you feel better let's say that it's a big bomba

Sometimes, what "sold-out" means is misunderstood. Very few titles had a demand really higher than supply; all the others satisfied the demand in the first very week and what was left in the market (or what eventually shipped) could not change the situation. Etrian Mystery Dungeon fits the first case: the game re-appeared in the chart last week which signalled that Atlus wasn't able to satisfy the initial demand; SK might fit the second case, such that it is true that the game sold well with respect to the initial shipment, but this basically fully satisfied the demand such that even with an additional shipment you won't see more legs than usual.

Bottom line, "sold-out" per se is meaningless.

EDIT: Woops, wrong thread, sorry about that.
Well the first Vita Touhou game got announced for June 25th if that interests anyone, but I think it's gonna be PSN only so I don't think that'll have trackable sales.

That and Touhou is also niche, so do not expect some massive sales numbers out of it.

It is, but last I checked its main competitor was Kancolle which is getting stupidly huge predictions for what is essentially a crappy browser game port.

Smartphone / browser game that takes pretty much no skill to play vs. hardcore STG.

From the words of Zun himself

"If you want to make money, don't make doujin games."
