Sequels that will never happen for games that ended on cliffhangers

And also POP 2008. So wanted a sequel to that game but it is so dead now. Damn you ubisoft ;(

even if there would be a new PoP, Ubisoft would make it boring as all their user AAA games.

Yeah good point, dread that ubi might put out one with their usual open world formulaic, full of million collectibles & crappy sidequests shtick

You go on an adventure to discover why psynergy vortex appear, 70% of the game is about the eclipse, the last few second a vortex appear, THE END.

Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness.
It's true that the storyline went on with the Legend-Underworld narrative arc, but the ending (as well as the rushed development) left too many holes in the plot that were clearly meant to be explained in a sequel. But we all know how badly AoD was received and Eidos changed Core Design in favor to Crystal Dynamics to develop the further instalments of the series

Came here for Golden Sun.

There's also Again : The Eye of Providence, which was a fairly obscure visual novel developped by Cing.
It wasn't very good though, so I guess there isn't much of a loss here.

I want to believe there will be a sequel but I don't see it happening

The World Ends With You

EDIT: Well technically not a cliffhanger. Still it's shitty to tease more and then nothing.

Was about to post this one.

And yes, i'd call this a Cliffhanger. But one of the worst implementations of it.

It was not in the original Game, but in a Mobile Port that recived next to none Support from the Developer.

It's just pathetic at this point :/

Virtues last reward... (PLEASE NO!)

Metroid Prime Hunters comes to mind too. Hope they do explore events after that at some point as it seemed pretty interested, but deep down I don't think they will. Feels like it's been too long to revisit that now.

TWEWY 2 I still have hope for actually. It doesn't seem it's been that long since that teaser image was revealed, only concern I have is if it'll be a mobile game if it does happen...

Ah Dead Space 3 as well... Personally it disappointed me, no thanks of course to EA changing it for the worse, but the story still sounded interesting I suppose. Would love it to return if it can remain true to the DS1/2 roots.

What's the context behind this ?

I never played any DLC so my ending was the isaac static thing.

If you don't plan on playing the DLC.

Copied from the Wiki.

After the battle with the Brother Moon over Tau Volantis, Isaac Clarke and John Carver wake up on the surface of Tau Volantis, shocked to find out that after falling to their near death, they are still alive, they then make their way across the surface of the frozen planet, finding memories of the horror they had experienced. After finding out that the Marker signal was still causing insanity, suicide and Necromorphs, they battled through more of the threat that Isaac and Carver had just faced. They then found out about a Unitoligist ship that can take them back to Earth. After witnessing many ships lift off, they find out that the Shockpoint Drive in the ship is missing. It can only take them to the CMS Terra Nova.

Once boarding the Terra Nova, Isaac and Carver must find a way to restore power to the derelict CMS Terra Nova and find a new Shockpoint Drive in order to return to Earth. However, within the halls of the old Sovereign Colonies ship, they encounter the remnants of the Circle who've taken refuge inside and begun a new following in the name of the Necromorphs[1]. After dealing with members of the Circle, as well as their own insanity, Isaac and Carver find a new ShockPoint Drive, but Isaac is now losing his mind. He protests installing the ShockPoint Drive into the ship, because he happens to think that if they install the ShockPoint Drive, the Brethren Moons will follow them to Earth, and kill everyone living there. After Isaac and Carver have a hallucination of fighting each other, the hallucination is interrupted by another hallucination, in which the Brethren Moons reveal that they were only slowing Isaac and Carver down, and that they have known where Earth was all along.

After regaining his sanity, Isaac admits that Carver was right all along. He agrees to install the Shockpoint Drive into the Terra Nova. However, Carver then recalls that the Audio Logs hinted that the reactor could power up enough energy in the engine to go into shockspace and return to Earth. They toss the ShockPoint Drive into the reactor, and they overload the reactor by dumping plutonium cores which generates enough power to enter Shockspace. After returning to the bridge, they activate the ship and return to Earth, after attempting to communicate with Earth, they hear transmissions of people getting slaughtered by Necromorphs. When they look out of the cockpit of the Terra Nova, they notice that the Brethren Moons have already arrived and are attacking Earth.

One of the Moons comes up in front of the Terra Nova, crashing the ship and knocking Isaac and Carver unconscious. It is unknown whether this is another hallucination or actually what is happening.

I was actually thinking of Assassins Creed for this, but not 3. Assassins Creed Brotherhood has a pretty big twist at the end for the modern day plot and after that it basically get completely ignored, it's coincidentally the same time that I feel the story telling for AC as a whole went to shit.

I strongly believe that the series was originally planned to end at 3 but the money made Ubisoft make the most laziest and downright stupid decisions to keep it going.

Yeah there are lots of plot threads that have been totally ignored from earlier games, like references to Eve, various things that Subject 16 had touched on (mention of a son, Eden etc) and more.

I always found the glyphs interesting, all the allusions that real world leaders had influenced history using pieces of Eden and various other conspiracies. The Truth video also seemed like a plot point going forward too but that's another strand that fell by the wayside. Even Lucy's death was rushed and not fully explained. A shame really.

World in Conflict

Even though it wasn't a massive cliffhanger I would LOVE a sequal !

There has been ZERO talk about a sequal so I doubt there will ever be one.

I'd hate to see my favorite DS franchise end like this, always imagined another sequel trilogy with an older Luke.

screenshot0027-04-12a4wun4.png

Release it on iOS and charge me 5$ per puzzle pack and 1$ per used hint coin if you must ("a true gentleman always pays for microtransactions") but don't end the franchise with something like Layton7 ftp cardgame :(

What if it isn't ZE3? T_______T

It has to be.

- They started the countdown from 0303.
- If we have to wait for nearly 4 months for the reveal, it has to be something big.
- Aksys has not denied it being Zero Escape 3 when pretty much everyone is assuming it all over the internet.
- Uchikoshi said a few months ago that he is working on "You know what" and that "It’s looking like 2015 will be the year where everything I’ve built up over the years will come together and be let out into the world in one fell swoop."
- Aksys tweeted "Having catered Greek" with the hashtag #4infinity. Phi and Sigma are Greek symbols.
- Uchikoshi posted a series of numbers on Twitter which was quickly cracked to form "The longest night will have an end" and "We are all men of our word." He then deleted the tweet.
- Rising Star Games, the guys who published Virtue's Last Reward in Europe have stated that they know what the game is.

So if it doesn't turn out to be Zero Escape 3, Aksys are the biggest trolls ever.

Not exactly a videogame, but in a visual novel called Remember 11, it ends in a cliffhanger because they ran out of budget. While they did explain a lot of things, there were still things left hanging and I will never know 100% what the hell is going on. ;_;

This site (Remember11 SPOILERS!) might help you make sense of what happened.

A damn shame there was no budget for the third route.

Uchikoshi can never deliver the third product due to money issues... The poor guy can't catch a break.

For the people saying XIII : Does the game follow the story of the books? Because if it does you can just read them. At least there's a way to see the rest of the story unlike some other games here.

Star Wars Force Unleashed 2. The game itself was vastly inferior to its predecessor, but it ended with a head-scratcher and I wanted to see where the story would go next.

We'll never find out if Captain Titus from Space Marine gets executed for heresy or not. Probably, I assume, given he'll never be given the chance to redeem himself.

I don't really care about Genesis and the crap he added to the FF7 series but I at least wanted to know where they were going with it all.

Really??

Wow! I need to look up the other ending to Kya then! That was the only one I was aware of.

I always recommend to the few new players that go into the game:
Don't help one of the really early wolfen to turn back, but get all the rest. Finish the game and see if it goes to black or goes to what is obviously a teaser for another game. If it goes to black it's right and you can just go save that last wolfen to get the "true" ending in all of its cliffhangeriness.

It surprised me when I played it because mine was actually wrong, but my girlfriend (now wife) got the game at the same time and hers was fine.

Also, I would absolutely buy a less buggy, HD remake of it on current consoles. Hell, I might try to play it on PCSX2 again just because, now.

It has no real cliffhanger but Elite Beat Agents ends with a "To Be Continued"-screen.

I am still waiting for that, 8 years later.

:(

How did this thread get so long and no one mention Bulletstorm?

bulletstorm-cover.jpg

It pains me that there will never be a sequel to this awesome game. Especially with the ending setup.

Another is Kane and Lynch 2 dog days

0066224891010_500X500.jpg

It just sort of ends with nothing really resolved.

I'm very glad i no longer have to list Tex Murphy Overseer in this thread.

Also, I don't care about Half Life anymore but I still kind of want to find out what happens to Barney.

How did this thread get so long and no one mention Bulletstorm?

It's in the OP. In fact the OP wanting a Bulletstorm sequel is why this thread was created in the first place.

Donald in Maui Mallard is an interesting case since the games ending literally tells you too look forward to Mauis next adventure, but none was ever made. Ever since i beat it as a kid i've been wondering if a sequel was ever even planned.

From Last gen:

DmC_box_art.png

I think the next DMC game is going to be DMC5.... we got this interested reboot game that we will never see the continues of it's story and characters.

220px-Prince_of_Persia_2008_vg_Box_Art.jpg

My most heart broken case from the last gen, that ending and that cliffhangers that left us wanting so much more :(

256px-The_Darkness_II_cover.jpg

The ending left a BIG potential for a a very great and interesting storyline... it has been 3 years now and we didn't even get a small piece of conformation that they are working on part 3.

Xenogears - The whole story revolves around the fact that
Deus wanted to go to Earth. Deus set in motion the 10,000 years+ worth of history of the game's planet for the single purpose of one day being able to going to Earth because it wanted to go there that bad.
And then at the end of the game you still have no idea why.

Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge - The third game doesn't count.

Garou: Mark of the Wolves - What is Kain's goal? Will Rock be okay? Is Geese alive?
