Media Create Sales: Week 14, 2015 (Mar 30- Apr 05)

So, Star Ocean 5, what can we expect from it? :p

Japan LTD rank has

360 version - 166k FW/209k LTD
PS3 version - 85k FW/158k LTD
PS3 Ultimate hits - 21k LTD

So it had solid sales even with SE throwing it under the bus with 360 timed exclusivity

Is that time of the year where 3DS will not receive any more game from third parties, and all handheld support will go to PSV?

At this time last year SQEX didn't have anything on 3DS as well.

In the next 3 months we have on 3DS: Bravely Second, Gyakuten Saiban, YW2 Busters, Puzzle & Dragons SMB, Hatsune Miku, DBZ and PoPoLoCrois Harvest Moon.

I was meaning, there's always a time of the year where people think 3DS will be dead in a few months because no 3rd parties support. IIRC, at this time last year SQEX was having nothing except for BS announced. SQEX has not been stellar on 3DS, this is true, but thinking that are BS there won't be anything else is disingenous.

PlayStation MH5 isn't happening. The best indicator for gauging pro-PS betrayalatons is Verendus and if you compare his comments re:MH versus say DQ it's pretty obvious.

I don't remember Verendus saying anything about MH and while he seems to know quite a lot I doubt he knows all the deals happening.

The real question is what they are actually doing with this cash?
Because they did some aquisitions but they don't see to do anything serious with them.

Well it isn't easy to come up with hit games, right now they're expanding p&d with other IPs or platforms, which makes sense since a direct sequel for mobiles isn't easy to pull off.

and iirc the W version hasn't been doin too well.

We don't really know what they have in store other than the collaborations, which i think is a wise move to keep the IP relevant.

p&z butters their bread, so it makes sense to focus on it

At this time last year SQEX didn't have anything on 3DS as well.

This has been going on for years now. Just a few weeks ago some were still convinced BigNs next gen handheld would launch by the end of year (2015) and early 2016 at the latest.
Since then 5 games with the potential of selling 500k+ in Japan have been announced earlier this year for 2015/2016, plus Fire Emblem if, which also has a slight chance to overcome this threshold.

About all the crossgen developments, PS4 obviously still isn´t seen as self-sufficient system in Japan, this kind of slow transition to the next gen is really unprecedent and it will be interestng to see how this will affect the next console cycle. Many already seem to think that a PS3 version is good enough compared to the PS4 version, there is a high possibility that this will be even more prevalent next gen (PS4->PS5), unless there is a much bigger focus on exclusive content. I also wouldn´t be too surprised if FF15 will be pushed further back for this very reason, in retrospect they would have done themselves a favour to not cancel the PS3 version, considering we already are approaching the second anniversary of PS4s unveilement and PS4s situation still isn´t good enough in Japan.

Mmmm

This week's leaks are very difficult to guess.

From what I understand One is back where it was.

Something sold 43.391 combined. I'm gonna guess Super Robot Wars.

PS4 not enough sales...

Not sure, but seems a safe bet.

Only Square Enix was mentioned from what i can see, not third parties. I think that Square Enix will make at least one more game for the 3DS though.

I wonder if this is the game with most revenue in japanese history. EDIT: Perhaps most profitable as well.

I dont think people have been saying for years, that the 3DS wont get any more 3rd party support, especially in Japan. The 3DS is afterall just a little over 4 years old.

So, a solid announcement despite the 4th not being beloved it seems. Another arrow for PS home consoles, prominently for PS4 imho.

I can't see how Wii version will be above Wii U version first week and LTD.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=732865

This was 1,5 year ago when Wii was kinda alive with some software, now it's completely dead.

I'm ecpeting the Wii U higher than the Wii one too, but with small numbers. Probably 45k Wii U opening week?

500k is being safe.

Are you sure? It seems way lower than the first one on Comgnet/Preoder/buzz

Yeah, it's SQEX this time. Before MH Stories was announced, it was Capcom.

Btw, at some point early in its lifetime, 3DS was selling not-so-great and apparently many third parties were cancelling games. People were saying 3DS was already dead (also in light of the announcement of PSV, which hyped people a lot), then price-cut and the conference in September where Iwata announced everything. 2012 was better for people, but I remember doom&gloom comments about 3DS and third parties since 2013; for example, when Monster Hunter 4 disappeared for a while, people though that it was going to be multi-plat with PSV (also fuelled by some rumors).

3DS showed to be a lot more unpredictable than any other platform in the short term, so I guess it might be the case to be less clear-cut on its situation.

I see what you mean. I think that Square Enix will release at least one more 3DS game. Its hard to know when the next Nintendo system will come out though, and how the publishers are thinking about the business regarding that.

Yeah, that is true. Similar things were also said about the Vita early on i remember, that developers were moving away from the system. I just ment to say that people havnt been saying for years that 3rd party support in general will be dropped from 3DS, at least not from what i've read in these threads. Going multiplatform for example would still mean 3DS support in that case. The 3DS sales were a bit low compared to DS standard in the first 6-7 months or so before Iwata announced the price cut etc., as you mentioned. And the 3DS have seen a steady stream of support since then.

I'm very sure that both the 3DS and Vita will recieve a fair share of 3rd party games in 2015 and 2016.

W is actually just the same app. It's a new mode you can select.

But yeah GungHo has a fundamental issue because they don't actually seem to understand what makes a mobile hit unlike some of their competitors (most notably COLOPL who constantly generates hits without even having a platform a la LINE).

Even traditional publishers like Namco, Square, Sega, and (I'm shocked I can say this now) Konami can generate multiple hit games these days.

Mixi has the same test ahead of them.

ah so it isn't the sequel?

i haven't touched game since i lost my account

i rolled some epic monster, which i don't think ill ever see again lol

I think GungHo does know what to do, they're probably just more careful since they don't wanna tarnish their new gained fame since p&z.

we just really don't know til they actually show their hand

That's what I thought at first too, seeing that comment from the blog. The question now would be...how much lower than 20,000?
20k this week, sub-20k the week after

PS4 is only going to matter with a steady stream of games. Without that, its gonna sink

PADW is a really weird spinoff because IAP barely exists in that game. There's no rare egg machine, the sole gacha is only rollable using in-game currency. Your stamina meter always has 5 hearts instead of scaling with rank. etc

I'm not sure they expected it to be a big moneymaker from the start.

It doesn't need to sell like the first one to achieve good sales, the first game shipped 1.5m, i don't see the game dropping to 500k.

Oh, I understood you meant launch week sales: 500K opening would be too much imho for a sequel/spinoff (don't know how to call it?) of a (apparently) much more anticipated game that started, during Christmas, with 543K
