Continuing from the last thread:

At the same time Bravely Default's production values aren't even in the same league as SE's PSP efforts, though. So, I wouldn't necessarily say that the increase of hardware power also means that the budget of a potential 4DS Bravely has to grow over the costs of a typical Vita game, since that clearly wasn't the case with Bravely Default either. Between Bravely Default's second half and Bravely Second apparently recycling a lot of the first game's content, it definitely feels like SE isn't giving the developers more money than absolutely necessary and if they are allowed to continue working on the franchise, I wouldn't expect that this would change.
I don't think this would be my basis for comparison though. The previous game was 4 Heroes of Light on the DS, from which this is a major step up. It has a ton of jobs, monsters, voice acting, notably better visuals, a robust sound track, and even if you cut out chapters 5-8, is still a lengthy, content filled JRPG. Taking a look at a credits list, even if we cut out the musicians and voice actors, there was still a whole lot of staff working on the game both internal to Silicon Studios and outsourced: http://www.gamefaqs.com/3ds/729328-bravely-default/credit

I don't think this is inconsistent with how Square Enix followed up on their PSP games either. Let's take a quick look.

Dissidia: This is now an arcade and PS4 game by Team Ninja. It looks quite high effort for what it is.
Kingdom Hearts: The team went on to KH3D which was an upgrade visually though I believe not quite as robust as BbS (which was in development for four years I think?). However, the team was then moved on to Kingdom Hearts 3 for XB1/PS4 using UE4.
Type-0: This got a mobile spin-off title and an HD remaster, while the senior staff was all moved to helming Final Fantasy XV for XB1/PS4. Tabata has noted he wants to make Type-1, has put a secret movie for it in Type-0 HD, and shown off concept artwork for the game. Judging by what was shown and the platforms he's working on lately, I think it's safe to assume this is intended for XB1/PS4.
The 3rd Birthday: Underperformed and the series is dead again.

I don't know. They still strike me as a company that progressively increases production values on the games they keep going with, especially if they're not small spin-off entries.

What was the puzzle?

Now I understand the leaks. Two puzzles this week, with some links.

First Puzzle:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/4023339032/

http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00MVII89O/

http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00JZI3F6O/

First Link => 100
Second Link => 70
Third Link => ワン (Wan) => One
Answer: One 100+70 = 170

Second Puzzle:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B009T5APVQ/

http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00FB4S3RM/

http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00005V28E/

First Link => -25000
Second Link => はちまん (hachiman)
Third Link => キラキラ (kirakira)

Hachiman means 80.000 in japanese. And Style Savvy 3 is called Girld Mode 3: Kirakira code in japan. In my previous post I thought that Style Savvy 3 sold 80k because I thought that the first link was something else.
Amswer: StyleSavvy 3 -25000+80000 = 55000

This week was even sadder than last. There are no winners here, only lesser losers.

Neat that MK8 continues to crawl towards a million. It will be the first Wii U game to hit that mark, won't it?

But hey, new Xbox One owners in Japan can all get together and form a decent 6 on 6 touch football league.

Minecraft legs have surprised me for sure. Is it just a download code or actual game on retail card?

Slow week and disappointing numbers for everything, hopefully Bloodborne can keep those numbers up in the upcoming weeks.
Next week will be more interesting, pretty much decides will there be Bravely Third or not.

3rd Super Robot Wars Z: Tengoku-Hen is collapsing hard, this is not unusual for these titles, but overall sales are (especially on Famitsu) way lower than the previous entry.

[PS3 - PSV] 3rd Super Robot Wars Z: Jigoku-Hen <SLG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2014.04.10} (¥8.715) - 334.661
[PS3 - PSV] 3rd Super Robot Wars Z: Tengoku-Hen <SLG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2015.04.02} (¥8.716) - 243.377

[PSV] Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition <ADV> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2015.03.19} (¥2.592) - 11.121 / 102.104 (-17%)

PlayStation Vita finally found its evergreen title, without Minecraft its sales would be in the 10.000 range, which is what it was selling in February.

Thanks to Microsoft :).

3DS and PS4 up YOY. Not bad. Not great either. PS4 needs more games though.
XBO double digits soon? Is such a thing even possible?
Too bad about SRW sales. It's a decent game. But this particular series has gotten somewhat long in the tooth I feel.

I can't believe Wii U has still sold more in Japan than PS4. I thought for sure it would've been passed by now.

I think the problem is that neither system has really had a game that's captured the mind of the Japanese audience. PS4 has a week-on-week edge, but I don't see it actually overhauling Wii U's total until such a high-profile game hits (FFXV? Seems the most likely candidate that we know of right now).

I forget, was Girls Mode 2 on DS or 3DS? (Edit: Style Savvy 2's mentioned above!) Thought it might spark a small spike in hardware sales, but that's because I thought it was the first GM on 3DS. If it's the second, the audience already has one.

Seems that all hardware is selling worse this year than last year, glad that 3DS is not far off from past years hardware sales thanks to N3DS. Will Vita 3000 boost vita sales so it will be above last years sales?

Anyone expecting much from Xenoblade X? I know I'm excited for it state side, but haven't heard if there is much hype in Japan. It comes out in a week.

I bet it will do roughly 75-100k in the first week and drop from the chart the week after :/

I got surprised with this week's number, they are bad. Then I saw last year's ones from the same week, and I concluded they aren't that bad.

Wow, that's quite the convoluted puzzle.... yet it all makes sense.

I wonder how long it'll take until SCEJ makes the announcement that Minecraft is the Vita's highest-selling game in Japan.

was expecting more from style savvy, good YoY for 3ds and Wii u, with ps4 holding better than expected after last week drop

Would have liked to have seen Style Savvy have a bigger opening but if stays on the charts for awhile I think it'll be okay. Hoping to see a localization announcement for it, but considering only Japan got the last patch for Trendsetters I'm not expecting it.

Didn't the original SB4 sell pretty badly in comparison to SB3? I don't think they expect this expansion to do very well.

Yep:

PS2 : Sengoku Basara ( Capcom ) { 2005-07-21 } - 208,757
PS2 : Sengoku Basara 2 ( Capcom ) { 2006-07-27 } - 378,340
PS3 : Sengoku Basara 3: Samurai Heroes ( Capcom ) { 2010-07-29 } - 426,357
WII : Sengoku Basara 3: Samurai Heroes ( Capcom ) { 2010-07-29 } - 177,711
PS3 : Sengoku Basara 4 ( Capcom ) { 2014-01-23 } - 239,812

From best selling entry to second worst selling mainline game.

The expansions have a weird history:

PS2 : Sengoku Basara 2: Heroes ( Capcom ) { 2007-11-29 } - 328,425 (86% retention)
PS3 : Sengoku Basara 3: Samurai Heroes Utage ( Capcom ) { 2011-11-10 } - 169,281 (40% retention)
WII : Sengoku Basara 3: Samurai Heroes Utage ( Capcom ) { 2011-11-10 } - 103,504 (58% retention)

PS2 was the Musou machine, I guess.

so new hardware is doing better than last year (except xb1) and old hardware is doing worse. vita probably gets another revision in japan to bolster sales another year and take the machine comfortably into the 4.5-5m spot when all is said and done. ps4 should hit a million this year, and once it becomes the go-to place for playstationy games, should start pulling numbers vita was doing in its prime with more regularity. it'll probably clear 5m, but won't cross the wii u until next year.

wii u looks like it will quit selling around 2.5-2.7m. won't quite reach the wonderswan/dreamcast. 3ds might make it to psp numbers, but should at least surpass the ps2. 3.5m from here seems like a stretch though, especially with nx launching next year.
