This website here shows a copy of the police report filed by Canavero. The author got it from him. But this is all still part of a marketing ruse, right? :p

Well that's that then. Pack it up people, party is over.

In the police report he says: "sono un esperto di terapia del dolore cronico per l'arto fantasma doloroso".

Jesus, I really can't believe this...

holy shit, he really says that? that basically confirms that this is a gigantic hoax!

And it will get as far as Lindsay Lohan's suit against GTAV. Psst.

In the police report he says: "sono un esperto di terapia del dolore cronico per l'arto fantasma doloroso".

Jesus, I really can't believe this...

Translation: "and expert in pain therapy for chronic limb phantom pain."

I can't stop laughing about the batshit insanity of all this and thinking about the poor police officer who had to file that report, lol

Translation please...

Something around the lines of "I'm an expert about therapy for the chronic pain for the phantom limb pain". Maybe "arto fantasma doloroso" it's a genuine italian medical term, otherwise I assume that it's a rough translation of a foreign locution since he repeats "dolore" (pain) twice.

EDIT: yeah, what ElTorro said.

DOUBLE EDIT: a quick Wikipedia search shows that "phantom limb" (what Canavero claims to be an expert of) and "phantom pain" are two different, even if correlated, medical conditions. So I think that the correct translation is "phantom limb pain".

guys, a konami employee in the mgs thread did not deny the head transplant theory.

this is getting serious. do you guys think this is the most brilliant viral marketing we have ever seen?

Aureon

Please do not let me serve on a jury. I am actually a crazy person.
Facts to preface:
Our man, Sergio Canavero, is a well-respected neurosurgeon, with over 100 published papers, most of them definitely not-insane.
Matter of fact, nothing i can find of his on Google Scholar mentions head transplant in any way, before 2013.
Similar searches in Canavero's usual publishing channels, and Google, and absolutely nothing turns up before 2013.
Interestingly, he published hits for both "Spinal Cord Fusion" and "Head Transplant" in 2013, and then followed up in both 2014 and 2015, with a book in 2014.
Still, he is known as a revolutionary in the field, who saved patients considered lost.

The Head Transplant \ Spinal Cord Fusion theory has been substantiated in at least four different articles, plus a book: Said articles are published in well-respected, peer-reviewed journals. Example.

Those papers are not jokes, they're solid, if outlandish, science, and fit the history of our good Doctor's publications.

And while the papers have been accepted, reviewed and published, this goes against nigh all the opinions of the medical community. More than one leading transplant surgeon has come out to thoroughly thrash his idea.
As it stands, Canavero's career will be tainted either as a dreamer or as a buffoon.

Canavero, when exposed to the MGS theory, has repeatedly negated everything, and made very strange comments while asking for MGSV's projected revenue.

Facts, Part 2: The MGSV coincidences.

Canavero, obviously, looks very much alike the actor chosen for Phantom Pain's Doctor.
Canavero has been working on Phantom Pain (as is, feelings of pain in a missing limb) for decades.
Canavero chose a very outlandish name, HEAVEN, for this project - Which doesn't fit his previous scientific articles titles, which are all very, well, normal. It well connects to MGS's OUTER HEAVEN.
TED Limassol is an anagram for Solid Metals.
MGS has already played with the theme of a body being controlled by another mind, and Phantom Pain is expected to take this to another level.
The Ted Talk in which the HEAVEN\GEMINI announcement was made was in Cyprus, location of MGSV.

Leading Theories:

#TeamViralMarketing
Canavero has been contacted in 2012, and has successfully published scientific articles and a book for a viral campaign. The endgame of this isn't known, but it could either be to bring attention to a pet theory of his, or simply money and fifteen minutes of fame.

#TeamCoincidencesHappen
All the listed coincidences are, well, coincidences: Canavero has simply gone insane, and yet is still a respected neurosurgeon.
Also, Canavero honestly thinks he can sue Kojima over this, and has splurted a ridiculous theory on hidden cameras.

Honestly, neither camp has a solid claim. As it stands, Viral Marketing could be the more believable theory.

Since the character's likeness is based on someone else, this guy doesn't have a leg to stand on does he?

even if he did, they could easily just throw some hair on his head or something. the game isn't even out yet. any smart attorney would tell this guy to wait for the game to release and sell and ton of copies and then sue. konami could easily change the character model with 4+ months left until release

Yes, because Kojima and Konami didn't have to do a thing, it's viral marketing whether it was supposed to be or not. Gaf and everyone else talking about it has made it that way.

If the character really is based on Ian Moore, then Konami asked for permission to do so, which would require signed legal documents i assume.

The similarity between the character and Canavero is still uncanny.

Great point GreyOcelot :) Some hair wouldn't be hard to add, or at least take his glasses off. Then again, KojiPro shouldn't really have to.

konami have been planting the seeds since 2013, the post by Aureon confirms that it is line with the announcement of mgsv.

don't you think it's wierd how the character model are similar, and this doctor talks about the phantom pain? its a very clever ruse with some very subtle bread crumbs left that only the post observant and intelligent would pick up.

what the fuck is happening, i can't believe how insane this is. what do you guys think will be hte end game of this viral marketing? do yu think that he will do the brain surgery and at the end a gigantic advert for mgs6 will come up or something?

i'm strugglign to breath right now, this is totally insane.

At best, I can believe that Kojima found this doctor while researching crazy theories about the phantom pain and decided to make the MGSV doctor more similar to him for shits and giggles. No way this is all an elaborate ruse.

Confession time:
I've never played a MGS game

Might as well. You will at least have a better understanding of how something like this and the previous thread actually blow up and other journalists actually give the insanity more life. MGS2 in particular is to blame.

Konami would get the end blame for this since they took credit for Kojima's games, no?

In that case, the lawsuit may not even be the worst thing in the world. If Kojima is left unemployed, all he'd need to do is create a kickstarter campaign, overdeliver on another game and he'd be back to game development, this time completely independent from Konami.

playing the games wouldn't really enlighten this fact more so than simply reading about kojima's biggest ruses (raiden surprise first and foremost, phantom pain reveal, PT, etc)

Ah yeah, you are right, I haven't read the beginning of the doc, anyway what I wrote is also true, someone phoned him 20 and more times asking for that. Anyway, can a lawsuit delay the game?

If they act swiftly hopefully not. They could tweak his face so he looks no longer similar or even change his head (lol)
