DiRT Rally is available on Steam Early Access

Sufficient demand eh? Ok. I want to play that on my PS4 Mr.Codemaster. Just note that here never was sufficient demand for shitty freestyle parkours and you gave it to me last gen though.

I only get a missing executable message after getting it on Steam. From the forums, it seems like this is a common error. Don't know how people are actually playing it yet.

Edit: seems to be downloading patch now.

Edit 2: Yep, that got me an exe file that starts at least. Will be back with impressions later.

I've just downloaded it but it doesn't work. Seems like some kind of mess up with the uploaded files but looking at the steam forums everyone's getting the same 'no exe' message.

Damn :(

This is great news as it may signal a new Codemasters if the RBR comparisons are indeed true. I won't be shocked if this is better than either the WRC game or the Loeb rally game.

'Tis a shame it's running the Grid: Autosport engine rather than the F1 2015 version of the EGO engine - it'll still be a looker though despite what the lads from Eurogamer say in the YT video.

NEW DRIVING MODEL: The physical simulation for DIRT Rally has been completely rebuilt to adequately capture how it feels to race across changing surfaces, and loose surfaces collect under the wheels during lateral sliding, creating a completely new feel to sliding around corners.
Yes! This is what I wanted from a rally game, I played Dirt 3 a few days ago and even with every assist off, it felt too arcade, and RBR is almost impossible to play with a gamepad.

I think I'll buy even without a gaming PC. This will need to be supported and I am planning to go PC for vr in the near ish future.

Looks awesome, day one PS4 for me. I Dirt 1 but hate the extreme sports crap they added in later iterations of the series.

I think is more alike GRID Autosport. A last tribute to a saga before the current gen jump.

I'd love for that to be true, but Codemasters really seems to be on the ropes these days. Pure speculation here, but this early access move seems like a way to keep development floating on what would have been DiRT 4.

The one thing that gives me hope is that it IS on the old engine. We know they were working on 4, and it's been long enough ago that it seems unlikely it wouldn't have targeted a new-gen engine. So maybe there is still a DiRT 4 in the future, but I'd wager its existence very much depends on the success of DiRT Rally.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
I just wonder who they thought their audience was with that cynical dudebro bullshit.

Was there ever a single person who would have not bought the previous games if they didn't have those fucking awful drift events in them? Or someone who said "Wait, there's not some edgy announcer that interrupts the game every 2 minutes with his inane bullshit market-researched Xtreme comments, fuck this game!"

I bought RBR to get my rally fix but never could be bothered to go through the hassle of patching and modding it up. This amazing news, a proper Sim rally racer could really do well. Its certainly a gap in the Sim racing market which looking at AC and Pcars has some interest these days.

I just wish the price entry was just a bit lower. It's not that it's expensive, it's just my budget that is tiny...

Either way I can't honestly wait to play this game with all the HUD off. It will be a nice add to my Dirt Library with many hours invested I hope!

I think this is Dirt 4 -- or rather, what became of it. The game has been in development for at least ~10 months and Codemasters teased Dirt 4 ~eight months ago.

Cool, it sounds like a few GAF'ers have already bought it. If impressions are good then I could see myself buying this even in early access, like today. The feature list sounds like exactly what the fans wanted for Dirt 4, and I'd like to support that kind of community respect from Codemasters.

I did a fast run and it's really promising. The handling certainly feels realistic, although I have never driven a rally car. The game flat out starts by having you set which assists you are to use, which a lot better than the way Dirt 3 made you hunt down all of it in a menu after you started the game.

Also, the best thing about the whole game is how there are no Codemasters fancy animated menus in sight, so you'll get an average of 10 minutes more out of any play session.

It feels like a driving game that I want to spend time to get good at.

None of those games are installed, where have you been?! ;)

Hehe, I already finished them all my good man! I even recently replayed Dirt 3 Complete Edition since I never had the chance to play some of the cars and tracks from it.

If someone will be stopping by on Twitch, put the link in here, I might take a look. :)

I think is not Dirt 4 but a way to fund Dirt 4 and get feedback for a better Dirt 4.

The game is in early access which means they still have months of work left to do on it. Codemasters is not a big studio (they keep laying off people) so it's not like they could be working on two games at the same time.

To clarify, I'm not ruling out the possibility that a game with the title of "Dirt 4" will come later, just theorising that the Dirt 4 Codemasters teased has since transmogrified into Rally.

Can't seem to find info about the graphics engine. Is it on the new engine they're using for their next F1 game? I played a little Dirt 3 Complete Edition last week and felt the graphics quite dated. Thanks!

That tire dig-in from braking or wheelspinning leads to more friction/grip makes me kinda excited.
But I wanna know something about FFB-wheel feel from someone wheel-experienced here on gaf before I buy.

It seems like it might be a bit of a beast this time around. Recommended cards are a R9 290 and a GTX780.

Watch the gameplay vid for some stuff about Dirt 4 vs Dirt Rally.

Btw Dirt 4's early access was teased months ago during the last round of layoff

A new Dirt game, in production at the Southam office, is safe, but it may not release when planned. Sources told Eurogamer Codemasters planned to announce the new Dirt soon with a view to an Early Access-style release in the middle of February, but the company has yet to secure car licenses, so this is currently unlikely.

Bugger... This game seems to have everything i always wanted in a Dirt (or Codemasters) game. No fancy menus that take ages to navigate, none of that dudebro stuff, no gymkhana and focus on pure rally. And now that it's out, i can't play it since it's not on console (my laptop will most probably not be powerful enough for this game).
