I'm really happy i've only a PS4 available (plus a Vita and an old laptop to play games like Paradox ones or Civ) in order to experience my games and in particular the upcoming Witcher 3.

You know then, choosing the best version overall, etc, and being fully entitled to my platform of choice (in confrontation of other ones) sounds like chinese to me. I game on what i own and i feel happy i will experience the game as it is.

Replace PS4 by an X1 or a gaming PC because i don't give a fuck.

(seriously, if you have an X1 and like your platform of choice, then you SHOULDN'T give a fuck about those stupid 900p/1080p/slideshows debates, this is pointless)

The mere fact that you think Geralt in the books is a "Hero" is laughable, and really makes me question your interpretation of the series (Both books and games) in general.
He consistently makes an effort to help others for little or no personal gain (despite supposedly following a made up witcher's code preventing such actions), he turns down work if it involves hunting endangered species or abuse of other mystical creatures, he prides himself in lifting curses and willingly puts himself in danger rather than simply slaughtering his quarry, and doesn't discriminate against even the kind of outcasts literally everyone else would call a monster.
He's not flawless, but he's often selflessly heroic. He'd claim otherwise, but that's only because he loves to wallow in self-deprecation, as other characters tend to point out.

Is Geralts original Polish voice actor better or equal to the English dude?
He's better, but pretty much everyone else is worse.
But both of them pale in comparison to the Polish audiobook with its massive cast and far better performances, even though they share some actors (the audiobook's superior Geralt is wasted on Vernon Roche).

Well it seems like you do understand in general, but I think you've got the label and final thought completely wrong. Nothing you've listed makes him a Hero, at least not in the way the Witcher as a world is presented.
He simply tries to be a good person, by his own personal standards, within the limitations of the world filled with horrible people, but going so far as to label him a hero, or even "noble" is, IMO, a completely incorrect assessment.

He's exactly the same kind of person in the games, the difference being that you get to decide what path he takes, and to what degree he acts. He's absolutely not a worse or less interesting character in the games, there's just a difference in the degree of choices being presented, how those choices are being made, but the consequences they have on Geralt, the people around him and the overall plot all remains in-line with how it is presented in the books, and Geralt both generally as a character, and how he would approach the kind of choices presented.

At the end of the day to each his own, even if I do come across a little pushy here, if you think book Geralt classifies as a Hero, and think Game Geralt is terrible then so be it, but I think you're dead wrong.

You would think CDPR would just post console footage sooner if they were confident of their prowess on both consoles. Just makes you wonder as to why they havn't shown it yet and why it took so much time, seeing how they've already told us we would be seeing some.

We just want to see how smoothly it runs, there's no need to make a freaking 15 minutes walkthrough of it. Get it over with.

They've said over and over that it is coming.

Surely enough we will see it over the next week or so... they have to keep this hype train going.

So apparently journalists and youtubers are going to get their review copies of the game next week .. this is info from one russian YT who is going to review the PS4 version
https://translate.google.com/transl...n.ru/modules.php?name=News&file=view&sid=2299

So embargo week before release is very possible scenario after all, nice.

Still no Console footage?

Feels like this game isnt really coming to consoles lol

"@CharmCitysKing Working on showing some footage for both consoles in the coming days. Stay tuned :)"

I guess thats the thing, they want to make it in-depth showing and not some sloppy 1 minute long tosh that intern threw together at lunch break.

Don't know if this is the best place to ask, but what's the deal with the books? Is there a specific reading order? I grabbed The Last Wish the other day because it was all of $1.99, and I'm assuming that's the first book?

Blood of Elves is the first one, The Last Wish takes place before it so it's fine if you read it first.

Yes it is.

Last Wish--> Sword of Destiny --> Blood of Elves ---> rest of saga.

First two are a collection of short stories. Blood of Elves begins the more continuous storytelling. A few short stories from SoD tie directly into BoE and are thus very important.

How do you know he/she won't be able to notice it? You may not, but plenty of people do.
It's more psychological than anything, dude. Guaranteed if you did a side by side comparison youd be hard pressed to notice at all. Unless you have some obvious video I don't see it. To each their own. I'm just saying that people get too caught up in the weeds with this stuff. I'm sure we will all enjoy the game all the same. I just want steady frame rate more than 1080p.

This just isn't true. Are you basing this off videos? I hope not.

I own an XBO, PS4, PC etc.

720p to 1080p is an absolutely huge difference.

900p while not as wide is immediately noticeable as being lower res.

The best looking 900p game in terms of IQ is Ryse, which deals with it in a nice way.

Side by side is not necessary. Just a good pair of eyes and a decent TV.

Actually no. Myself, I'm particularly sensitive to aliasing. With the crappy AA most console titles usually use, it is immediately apparent.

For you, maybe, but you can't speak for everyone else just because you don't notice the difference. I own two 900p games and the rest are 1080p and I can clear as day tell the difference between them sitting 10 feet away from a 42 inch TV. Hell, I can even notice a difference in IQ between my 1080p games that use different types of AA. Infamous SS looks cleaner to me than Driveclub for example, even from this distance.

I do agree that people do get caught up it a little too much, but for some people the difference between those two resolutions is enough to choose one version over the other.

I understand, really. I just think about how last gen everything was 720 (correct me if I am wrong) and no one complained. It looked great, played great. Isn't that all that should matter? If you can afford 2 consoles and a beefy computer, congrats. Not everyone is so fortunate and I hate people who knock those that use the xbox solely based on a few less pixels. Thats really what my gripe is about.

(Preface: I am not attacking you, just building off your post)

The difference between 900p and 1080p is indeed noticeable granted you are sitting close enough to your display, but I would argue that its only clearly noticeable to a trained eye. For most people, they would be hard pressed to tell you if an image is 900p just by looking at it and without the assistance of a side by side comparison.

The difference is completely overblown for this generation of consoles, and frankly the continuous obsession over it has become very tiring. Without DF Faceoff articles telling people what resolution their game is running at, most people just wouldn't care and would just play and enjoy the game. Those types of articles are fine in order to help people with both systems gather all of the information and make a decision on which console to buy a game for, but they devolve into threads full of trash posts arguing over what is in practice a slight difference, and one that most people (especially outside of this forum) either won't notice or won't be bothered by.

I do agree that the difference in resolution can be enough for people to choose one version over the other, especially if having the "best looking" version is important to them. I just question whether most people could even tell there was a difference without a DF article or side by side comparison.

I really wish this wasn't a constant discussion and that people would just play the games. Witcher 3 at 900p on X1 will be fucking awesome, just as it will be at 1080p on PS4, and at 1080p+ on PC. However we of course will get the DF faceoff article shortly after release, and people will waste time analyzing and arguing over the differences, when we should be exploring this beautiful game.

Microcosm of this generation, and its just tiring.

Lol, frame size is now a "psychological" thing? The mentla gymnastics some people are willing to engage in... hilarious.

It is surprising that no Xbox One footage has been released yet. I thought microsoft as exclusive marketing partners that we would have seen more footage/coverage of the xbox one version (besides an unboxing by Major Nelson).

Well I wouldn't say its mental gymnastics. I think he is just saying that he is more focused on enjoying the game than the resolution. I don't think he should have to sit there the entire time saying to himself "This game is fucking awesome, but its 900p so can't get too excited".

Some people genuinely don't care that much and focus on the game rather than resolution, and that's fine. As PC gamers we are more sensitive to resolution than most I would say (I've been at 1080p for what almost a decade now?), but I'm not trying to look down on people who game with lower res monitors, so I'm not about to tell someone they can't enjoy a game like this on X1 because its 900p.

A lot of people write a lot of nonsense about this stuff but there are people that are interested in these kinds of things.

So is there any info about what those who meet the recommended specs can expect? I have an r9 290 and an i5 2500k @4.3ghz, I'm hoping I can get high settings at 108p30 at the very least.

Damn, Sword of Destiny isn't actually out until the game. I was hoping to plow through this stuff before May 19.

Because console players had nothing to compare it to I guess. But I do agree.,there are more important things. :)

I can pretty much agree with this. Besides, there is a point away from the screen where disparity diminishes. Even at a distance where the difference of 900p and 1080 would be noticeable, I don't think Joe Blow would notice or care unless you asked him to scrutinize.

I'm kind of a forest for the trees kind of person: I care about small details. I also play on a monitor, but due to years of poor eyesight (thanks, dad) I'm conditioned to sit closer anyway. I'm interested in technical specs as well, so I find framerate and resolution interesting. I noticed before my friends how much of a slide-show Halo 3 felt like after playing Call of Duty, before my eyes adjusted. I think a lot of this disparagement is due to a cultured perspective. And, now that 1080p and 4k and yadda yadda are becoming selling points beyond the simple "HD," more and more people are going to notice and care.

Edit: Gopher's new footage is beautiful.
