i know the wii u has had a lot of headway, but still the way everyone talks like its dead in the water most the time, it sure is awful close to the realm of xbox one units sold than xbox one is to ps4.

what if the wii u surpased the xbox one? i know, good joke right. It is still a lot closer than I would've imagined.

That image only shows 3 consoles. Hence why it looks like Wii U sales are ok.

Perhaps this image will put things into perspective a bit better.

Did you read what he said, no wait, did you even the title? Not that I agree with the assessment, but its alarming that it took 11 pages and a tweet before anyone understood the discussion. Its obvious PS4 is ahead by far, but AR/VR may change things and he still predicts PS4 by end of the "console war" but just by a nose and not the landslide we see today. Not many will agree, but not as crazy of a comment as everyone made it out to be.

*excluding Japan*

Why there was a relatively huge spike in Wii U sales on the 2nd month? That was, like, the worst time to buy a Wii U... despite being Christmas.

I gotta say, that graph is clearly a beak. And as we all know, beaks are smaller than noses. So in a way he's right.

Missed my earlier posts in the thread?

Not really sure why I've had this impact on some of you guys considering I said the PS4 would more than likely be #1 worldwide pretty early in the gen (2013). Very strange.

I'm just pulling your leg mate

Launch sales bro. Also It's Christmas haha.

The Wii U launched 18th of November in the USA,

But EU and Japan + Rotw saw the release after November 30th, so the majority of launch sales were in December.

As with most console launches the Wii U saw a very front loaded launch with more than 3 million consoles sold in. But then no one bought it after the launch period. It's still failed to exceed more than 10 million after more than 2 and a half years on the market.

The question wasn't needed, it says it right on the title. Context is too hard doe.

Context... Its a difficult thing!

Speaking of which, he also goes on to say that VR/AR could turn things around, so isn't he saying "by a nose" by the end of the generation?

Yep. PS4 wins "the console war" by a nose.

It's right there, but carry on.

Where is the chart showing the end of the console war? I can't seem to find it. To be clear, I think the trend will continue throughout, but I think that's what he meant, especially when he said VR/AR could turn things around.

Is that the expected ratio by the end of the "console war"? The out of context joke was hysterical, but l hope people are not actually believing he was talking about the current state.

Probably the same trend imo, but in his defense, he claims VR/AR could turn things around, but he still feels PS4 will win the generation by a nose. The comment is not that ignorant when put into context, that's all I'm saying.

I can't help but think that this is appropriate for you:

Oh, so it's the combination of launch sales and Christmas with non-worldwide launch. That's... interesting. Almost all people I know personally or via Internet bought the Wii U on any time but Christmas 2012, and so do I.

How could AR possibly turn things around for the XB1? HoloLens is a self contained product that doesn't need the XB1 to work. On top of that there are reports that HoloLens will cost more than the console itself and will most certainly cost most than Morpheus since HoloLens has to include the additional cost of a processor and battery.

I could easily see AR/VR making the situation worse for the XB1. First because we've heard of plenty of games and applications being made for VR and very few for AR. In the race for content, VR is going to win by a long shot. Second, VR and AR will be like an entire console unto themselves both in terms of content and price. Many people who might have picked up an XB1 as a secondary console will instead use that money for VR instead.

How is AR/VR going to change things? The 2 consoles can barely run 1080p/60fps games and you expect something like AR/VR to change tgat around? It will be in line with Move/Kinect. Nothing of worth will come out of it.

The only viable platform for AR/VR is PC, unless you believe in the Cloud or secret sauces the 2 consoles are holding back on.

PC is not best platform for AR very far from it .
When AR does take off it will be most likely be because of phones and tablets .

Well, to be fair, this guy was around during the time of the original Xbox, so compared to this...

This thread is hilarious. XD

I guess he's saying that the Xbox One will make a comeback, which IS possible.

The PS3 did one last gen. Just took a huge price drop, large marketing campaign, and a new hardware model.

The PS3 used the rest of the world to catch up. Xbox does not have that luxury. Even China has abandoned the Xbox

PS3 never made a comeback, it was always selling better than 360 (Maybe not in Kinect year).

It can make a comeback, but not enough to surpass the PS4 or by a nose.

How would you define the comeback? The chances of the gap remaining 2:1 going forward aren't that high, so seeing that gap barrow isn't much of a combeback if the Xbox ends up being outsold by 40+million

I guess it's all relative... but this could still happen for this gen at this point.

P.S. Even though we are all giving him some well deserved shit for his statement, I think we all owe a lot to Ed Fries. He's done a lot of good for videogame consoles.

This XB1 "comeback" talking point is so fucking absurd.

How many times will it be debunked?!

It's in almost every sales thread lol

1.5:1 or less, but not beating them. I not saying that it will happen, but there a chance. Weird and rare with have happen before (Nintendo mobile). The actual market change when we less imagine.

Edit: Now that I though it better the word comeback is not the best for what I am describing.

Do people forget or just chose to ignore what MS had to do just to stay barely ahead of 360?

It seems it is purposefully ignored or some people intimate state that there is more competition this time so in reality it is doing much better than the 360 at this point.
