There should really be a warning if you're going to post a video from AngryJoe. I don't know how people can tolerate somebody that obnoxious.

Gothic died with the release of Gothic 3. Everything after feels just...wrong.
Nah... Gothic 3 with the community patch is a great game and Risen 1 is great, as well.

Risen 2 was not that good. Can't say anything about Risen 3 because I haven't played it.

Cool, I've been meaning to pick it up, guess I'll hold out a bit longer.

Arcania is also coming to PS4 later this month. Hopefully it sees performance improvements over the PS3 version.

3 was pretty cool but the console versions were horrible performance wise.

YUUUPPPP.

I'm still very surprised that this is skipping the Bone. It seems odd to me. Especially with Ubisoft doing the same thing with FC4. Is this gonna start to become a normal thing?

Much better than Risen 2, but still not quite on par with the first game, in my opinion. Crystal magic is grossly overpowered.

Doubt it. These aren't major AAA releases we're talking about here.

They're extraneous at best.

PS3 version has probably the lowest resolution I had the "privilege" to see on the console. Technically the game was a disaster. At least this version should run with an acceptable performance

Its been a normal thing for months. The only difference is the latest games to skip X1 are retail.

I've always heard so much mixed impressions of this series. Can someone give me in a few sentences what makes it good or unique? Thinking about getting it on PC.

Got really excited when I saw this thread but then realised that I was thinking of Sacred as I spent hours playing the second game on the PS3. Watched some videos of this and quite like what I see although the shortcomings I've read elsewhere sound annoying. May be tempted to pick it up at some point but I still have loads to do in Dragon Age and I'll have Witcher 3 shortly so it's definitely not going to be a launch game for me.

This was a very nice action adventure with light RPG elements and lot of enjoyable exploration.

Worst ending ever though, as per Piranha tradition.

The world is simply beautiful and very enjoyable to explore, writing is pretty fun, combat is kinda meh but I could handle it. I enjoy Piranha games, they have that nice atmosphere about them.
Considering it was made in some 20 people team, it was pretty damn impressive, I spent 54 hours in Risen 3, single playthrough.

The game is terrible in many aspects but I love it. It's packed full of quests and goofy dark comedy to stumble over, lots to explore, etc. If PB could just figure out how to make combat not a tedious slog they'd have something really notable on their hands.

Guess we poor poor xbox One owners will have to make due with The Witcher 3 for our WRPG needs. Oh woe is us!
I assume you're referring to the fact that it will run at non-native resolution on the Bone, as opposed to the full-res PS4 version?

FYI, it's "make do." <3

Just a little off topic here: the creators of Two Worlds (Reality Pump) went bankrupt this week and they shut down the studio.

Wait... what? Seriously? I missed that story completely.

That's really fucking shitty to hear. Two Worlds 2 was pretty good despite some of the jank.

Risen 3 is a slightly better game than Risen 2 but still a bad game in this series that take many step backwards and use a lot of copy and paste from Risen 2 which wasn't that good. Risen 1 now that was an amazing game (and Piranha Bytes 2nd best after Gothic 2) sadly R2 and R3 are nothing like it.

although it's meta critic score is lower than risen 2's, I don't believe anyone would actually say it's worse than risen 2.
it improved most of the major flaws risen 2 had, it has real factions again, a lot of magic, a completely new combat system and generally more freedom in the world. and it definitely still has that rough piranha bytes charm. that said, most gothic hardcore fans still hate it, it's still a streamlined gothic and many of risen 3's flaws or design decisions could have been improved with little effort, in my opinion.

I still liked it a lot, I honestly liked it even more than risen 1, which was much much closer to the gothic mechanics but in my opinion felt very uninspired. risen 3 does not, there are many fun, but admittedly not always perfectly implemented ideas in it. in my opinion, risen 3 is what risen 2 was supposed to be, a modern version of the gothic games that stays true to many of its core philosophies, but presented in a way that might please a younger and broader audience of gamers.

but again, it's still far from perfect. it's biggest problem is balance, and that in many areas of the game, but mostly difficulty, it's simply far too easy, so if you decide to play it, I recommend to do that in the later patched highest difficulty.

The last two Risen games are the only ones I've played. I beat them both as well.

They're very dated feeling, and aren't overly well-made, but I do find them addicting once I get into them. That said, getting into them requires effort and there are many issues you need to deal with.

I may play through it again, but it's disappointing it's PS4 only. I would've preferred Risen 2 over this, as well. It was better.

Nope, has nothing to do with indies.

That's basically what you're saying. Only AAA games matter and having more choices for games is somehow not important.

None of these games are important but you've been hot and bothered in both threads on games missing X1 today ;-).

Guess we poor poor xbox One owners will have to make due with The Witcher 3 for our WRPG needs. Oh woe is us!

Are you announcing X1 exclusivity for Witcher 3 because if not Ps4 owners will be too and the have an option to gets this if they want too. Who argues against having more games as a bad thing but I guess warriors are gonna warrior ;-).

So can you remind me, please. You're in this thread to point out that Risen 3 is shit and it's no loss that it's not on Xbox One?

Actually I'm in this thread because it was linked to another I was reading.

And my point isn't that Risen 3 is shit and therefore it's no loss, but more that there's been lots of doom and gloom talk that Xbox One is suddenly losing third-party support like the WiiU. People going so far as to call it a trend. Yet, the only evidence of this are a small handful of minor releases: either collector's editions or titles from smaller studios.

Is that really what you assumed he was referring to?
It's the only interpretation of his post that makes sense. The only other interpretation I could come up with was, "Enjoy your shitty exclusive, Sony Ponies. I'll be playing the vastly superior Witcher." But that makes no sense, because PS4 owners can play Witcher too, and a superior version of it at that. So assumed his plan was to "make do" with the inferior version of Witcher.

I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. :)

Some people never rest.
Again, trying to give people the benefit of the doubt here, I'm gonna assume you're referring to abadguy's salty response to the news of yet another PS4 exclusive and not my clever retort. ;)

Risen is one of those kind of games that was always PC/Xbox and if anything it was the PS2/PS3 that got skipped. Just the other day we heard about Far Cry 2.

Microsoft needs more diversity to appeal to a worldwide audience, not just the American market.
