So I've been dating my current girlfriend for a while and everything is going fantastic. But she has made it clear that when we move in together it will be in the house she owns. She lives about 20 minutes from me in the middle of nowhere( small town In Arkansas). She doesn't have Internet, and I believe the only option is satellite, which is terrible. She absolutely won't budge on this and thinks I'm immature for thinking that Internet(good Internet) is basically a necessity now days. What would you guys do? And does anyone use satellite Internet? Is it as bad as they say?

Depends on your work, but internet is rapidly becoming a utility in the developed world. You can't job hunt without it. If you have any sort of tech based career Internet comes first.

Having crap internet would probably be the best thing that ever happened to me. Productivity would go through the roof.

Or I'd waste even more time waiting for a game trailer to load.

I don't have a serious answer because it seems like either you like her enough to do this or you don't. Only you know how you feel.

Let's be honest- like most of us, you wouldn't last a day without decent internet access. Break it off with her now, or suffer for a few years until she discovers that you can buy porn at newsstands.

Meh, this isn't really as cut and dry as some of you are making it out to be. It's not just "GAF or girlfriend," it's all of the fucking internet. I cannot imagine a life without internet... Why the hell wouldn't she just let you hit up an internet provider and pay for it yourself?

Ahh I guess I misread a bit. So they have internet, it just sucks?

Satellite.

Mobile.

He still has access. It's not like he's cut off.

I mean, shit, can OP not just switch phone providers?

The problem is, there are no options where she lives, other than satellite.

You are going to lose her anyway, once she realizes that the true you she loved is the internet you, not the normal you.

Not for nothing but beyond the internet thing OP, what do you mean in the middle of no where? And why wont your gf budge on not moving from that middle of no where? Eh...did she inherit the house?

Yep, her family's house and land that was passed to her.

Living in the middle of nowhere Arkansas for the rest of your life sounds pretty damn terrible to me.

I'd be against it, even without the Internet problem.

Your girlfriend owns a house in a terrible location. What other terrible financial decisons does she do?

- Instant access to the sum of all human knowledge
- Instant access to a single person

The choice seems pretty simple to me

Let's take the Internet out of the equation.

She inherited the house and the land. That's nice and dandy and all. But I can surmise from this that she wants to live in this house....for the foreseeable next few decades. Is this what *you* want? Do you want to be stuck in the middle of no where Arkansas? With a girlfriend who's practically turtling in a house she grew up in? She's pretty much strong arming you into moving in with her by not budging out of it.

That's the bigger question.
