Witcher 3 PC Performance Thread

Anyone have a 780 + i5 at 60fps?

With a mix of high and ultra?

I have the same set up. My advice: don't even bother trying to get 60, seriously. Lock it at 30 or GSYNC it and get on with the game, it's just not worth the compromises graphically, you'll need low and medium to get locked 60.

Finally got it "working" on my old laptop with a 200 MHz overclock (Nvidia Quadro K2100M 2GB DDR3)
800x600 @ 25 fps locked half refresh ( 27-40 unlocked). All settings low save for textures on high with AA and some post-processing.
I bought the RU-OLD version for $16 with the expectation that it might not run at all until I get a new PC.
Only shame is that comparable 16:9 resolutions doesn't seem to be working.

same scene as the below on the other shore :p

Just started messing with ini tweaks, early results and just one pic. I would do more but my goal is to push it far enough and keep a locked 30.

I just noticed that I'm missing all flame effects. Torches, candles, fireplaces, they emit light but there's no flame. Anyone know a solution?

Man, I'm still getting random crashes. Hell, game crashed while reading a damn note! Besides that, things look very good! Cranked everything up and it's pretty nice. I'm poor at taking screens or I would be otherwise. Just trying to get the hang of the combat and gameplay systems. Geralt isn't as responsive as he should be.

I'm sorry for not saying before but I was running everything on Ultra. I managed to tweak some things and now I get 60fps. That said, to me, this is my graphical powerhouse game and I'll just max everything out and deal with the 40fps.

So yeah ~ 42fps on Ultra (everything max) with a GTX970, i5-2500k 4.5GHZ OC, and 8GB of RAM. Also I got Windows 8.1. Normal performance for my system?

Just a few hours and i'll be able to play it on my rig, i7 4770k-GTX 980, first thing i hope it won't crash as hell like someone is describing, second i'll turn everything on ultra and hairworks on, seeing how many fps it would do with no cap, i guess it'll be about 40/50fps so the best option will be to lock frame rate at 30.
After the nvidia video about those mosters i couldn't renunce to hairworks, of course you won't notice the difference in screens but in motion should be awesome

Yeah I used that SS config on the database and it looks great. I actually turned up the blue levels in the image and lowered the vibrance by like .25, it looks a lot colder and more like the early trailers.

interesting. Thinking of giving this a go tonight after I get home from work. Did it make a difference performance wise? What are you running for a GPU?

The way these grasses and trees blow with the wind, you would think there is a hurricane nearby. Really breaks immersion for me...

I haven't been able to play the game yet (thanks GMG issue), but from all of the videos I've seen, the way the trees perpetually bend or sway was already driving me nuts.

i7-870 @ 2.93 GHZ
8GB System RAM
EVGA 970 4GB (still using the GTA V game ready drivers)

Everything maxed (including Hairworks) @ 1080p and framerate locked to 30.

Im not that far in (still in white orchard), but it seems to be performing well aside from 1 weird crash (game froze with audio still going before eventually closing out).

I will say it doesn't look as good as I expected after playing GTA V though but it's still a looker.

You won't get 60 FPS on ultra with hairworks. With that off and maybe foliage distance to high you might get 60 FPS though.

I have a newer processor (i5 4690k), but otherwise I have a 970 and 8 gigs of RAM.

I'm locked at 1080/60fps, everything at ultra except for foliage distance, which is at high. No hair works either.

0 performance difference (alright maybe like a single FPS or something). SweetFX usually costs little to nothing, all that that particular config is doing is just adding a bit of blue to the image and lowering the vibrance of colors. Makes a big difference artistically in how the game looks, but not much else.

Oh, yeah, I'm running a GTX780 by the way.

And here is the config I used:

Follow the instructions for manual install.

I tried for a while using old drivers and SLI disabled to see where only one 680GTX could reach. Fantastic optimization with locked 30 fps in 1080p mostly ultra without Hairworks. With hairworks on for main char, minimum 26 fps. Later on I will enable SLI so I know what it's possible applying x3 factor.

Something wrong I've seen is unlimited framerate option works fine (60 fps in reduced 1600x900 resolution), 30 fps limit works fine, but 60 fps limit is totally broken, showing 40 fps where unlocked shows 60.

And here we have a user using a 680 and reporting great results.

So I just think a some expectations need to be adjusted with people using older cards.

So is Nvidia improving the drivers for 600 series cards and not 700 series then. No because that doesn't make sense.

Really? I think it looks better and GTAV constantly impressed me.

The level of detail I'm TW3 is just incredible, especially with character models and their animations during conversations.

So, was skeptical that I would like Geralt's hair with hairworks.

After taking a swim and getting out of the water with it. Yeah, never turing hairworks off.

i7 3770K
SLI 970 FTWs
16GB Ram
256GB Intel SSD
W8.1

Playing at 4K native, all Ultra settings, @30fps (Locked in menu), dips down to like 28ish in conversations/closeups but gameplay itself is silk. Get like 60 at 1440p, but not worth the drop in resolution. Especially with how amazing foliage looks at 4K.

So far so good. Going to pop in my PS4 collectors edition later to see how it holds up.

970, 2600k, 8GB of ram. Stock clocks. Everything maxed out except foliage distance set to high and hairworks turned off.
I'm getting fairly stable 60fps, with dips to low 50s in more crowded areas.

Man, I'm still getting random crashes. Hell, game crashed while reading a damn note!

This happened to me twice. It's weird.

1080P, SSAO

Everything on Ultra except for Foliage Distance (High) and Shadow Quality (Low)

Hovering around 40-55 fps. Pretty satisfied with the performance, but hoping the next AMD driver and upcoming patches cleans up some of it.

2xTitan X's + i74770k getting 60-80 FPS maxed w/hair on @1440p 144hz

Performance is decent but considering it doesn't look much better than Dragon Age its a bit disappointing.

Also keep getting random crashes that force a full reboot :(

This is pretty much where I landed. I have an Ivy Bridge i5, GTX 970, and 16GB of RAM. A mix of Ultra and High settings and am getting a very stable 1080p60. I'm very happy with how it looks on my PC.

I only have one problem, for some reason, after I quit the game, I have to kill the process in the Task Manager for it to completely end. Anyone else experience this?

I guess both games have a different aesthetic...but I feel like as a whole package GTA looks a little better (when it comes to textures, animation, physics, etc...).

W3's character animation during dialogues are really impressive though.

Anecdotal and haven't had much time testing it yet, but turning off hairworks seems to have stopped my black screen with audio crashes. Was crashing every 15-20 minutes before, been going about an hour now with it off and no crash yet. We'll see if it lasts.

I can't play more then 30-40 minutes without the game just straight up locking up.

I know it's like a broken record in here with all the freezes but it's frustrating and i kind of want to just go buy the console version and play it and then play it on PC when it's fixed.

Turning off vsync and the fps caps worked for me at least i got to play for 2 full hours without incident.
dont know if playing more time makes it freeze again but at least is not freezing every 20 minutes.

Anyone come up with a reliable way to prevent the game from freezing while you're looking at inventory? It's happened a few times, and I just have to kill the game through task manager.

EDIT: I'll try that suggestion directly above me!

I am getting 45-50fps with HIGH presets @ 1440p. The game looks great, I'll tinker with some of the settings this evening to see if I can improve it. CPU and GPU are running at stock speeds.

The animations I think are actually pretty average. They've done a great job with the face, but the movements of the limbs and body are still a little bit robotic.

So far, this generation nothing has beaten the facial animation from The Order: 1886 and especially infamous: Second Son. The animation (both body and facial) in those two games is just insanely well-done.

Just had that happen for the first time - how annoying. Didn't occur once when playing last night for 4 hours on my laptop. 90 minutes in on the desktop and bang, frozen.

At least performance is decent - 1080/60FPS on ultra without hairworks on a 980 in the first area. Vellen seems to be a little more taxing - I fluctuate down to 50 or so there. Maybe I need to do a mild OC. Just got the card so haven't messed with it at all.

GTA definitely has a better look in the city, as that is sort of what it was designed around. I think the Witcher beats it handily when it comes to natural environments though. Especially when it comes to grass and GTA's problems with it.

Is there a comparison between 8x supersampled hairworks and 1x supersampled hairworks?

How much of a difference does it make? Graphically that is

It looks like high end features in this titles aren't veyr well optimized, but matching the console's performance and looks is achievable on similar GPU hardware.

Why are you bullshitting here?

You do need to upgrade regularly if you want the most out of your card, support with nvidia and amd in my experience has been the same in that aspect, expect greatish stuff for a year, consoles get optimised to the max for years. But my comment was in response to someone saying tech becomes obsolete quick as an excuse for the higher end performance with these visuals.

Matching consoles is all that matters though when you recently spend over a grand on a few pc parts. Maybe even getting barely distinguishable settings over it too!

Anyway, I'm alright with how I got it running, well accepted it.

Reporting on my Gaming laptop experience last night:

Hardware: GTX 970m 3Gb DDR5, 8Gb Ram, Core i7 4720 2.6Ghz / 17" 1920x1080

The game ran on the optimized Nvidida driver flawlessly (no Hairworks of course), and the framerate seemed solid (probably around 30Fps) ... the IQ was simply gorgeous.
Also, I was worried with the reports, but not a single crash over a little more than 2hours of play, so I am a pretty happy camper.

One weird thing: As much as a graphic powerhouse that Witcher 3 seems to be, it ran better than the (supposedly) optimized Deus Ex HR Director's Cut I have been playing.
What is up with that? o_O

My Laptop is the same except its 15.6' and I run the game at 1080p a mixture of ultra and high with full hairworks and so far the frame rate is 28-35. I haven't walked into a big city yet though, just doing quest in the first town you hit.

Ryse has moments it is a step above those.

Walking around does look funky in TW3 sometimes.
