Some people is PM me for Famitsu data. Note that the information is in perfect japanese.
Unless you can read japanese (and will be nice some help since I'm quite busy), please be patient until is translated in English, it will be posted here :)

I like this discussion.

This here leads to a bigger question I think is important in analysis,

What are the differences in female vs male audiences?

I have no idea. Of course women like different genres at varying rates, but saying that feels sexist.

I don't think it's that they like certain genres more but rather the content within those genres. There's no reason every device shouldn't be 50/50 unless the content was skewed because there's nothing about analog sticks and dual screens that's male-specific. I think arguments women won't carry a dedicated handheld but men will is much more presumptuous and sexist.

I have no problem reading raw data in Japanese, kanji may be the trickiest part but even that can be easily readable with the proper tools.
I can offer you some help in that regard if you want.

Console Minecraft also has reduced scale, it's even behind PE now that Mojang added infinite worlds to those versions.

A 3DS port might need to be reduced further (I believe it depends on save file restrictions), but a conversion could be done. There's already several commercial and homebrew clones on the system.

How do they solve the problem of a lack of a second analogue stick? I think that would bother me more than world size. I guess you'd have to hold another button when moving the stick to move the camera? Not really ideal...

Lack of second stick isn't really a problem, as there's quite a few games with alternatives. On the N3DS, there's the C-stick.

Real problem on 3DS would be power (I believe I remember someone from Mojang saying the 3DS wouldn't be able to run even the Pocket Edition of the game, let alone the "regular" one).

But anyway, the lack of Minecraft on Nintendo platforms is really puzzling, for more reasons than one. Maybe one day we'll a nice article explaining it all in great details.

Minecraft would be a real system-seller for the N3DS in Japan. Alas, Minecraft is on Vita ;)

The cool people have 3ds with 2 analogues, plus there's a myriad of other options (touch screen, gyro)

Awesome stuff. Thank you hiska & others for taking the time to compile the list. I assume the paper features used sales too or is that on a separate paper by itself?

In a momentous turn of events, White Cat Project, a game with no stamina bar, is topping the Top Grossing charts in Japan.

For reference, Monster Strike was making $3.8 million a day at this position.

I'm going to make a separate thread about this as well.

Something I was still wondering: were those 3.8 millions WW or just from Japan? Monster Strike is available WW, right?

Under dramatically different market conditions, the DS managed to attract female consumer segments to buy a dedicated handheld device. It means very little in the current competitive environment.

Similarly, in that same investor answer, the idea that Western markets have room for growth ignores modern reality.

It's a product in decline. And the forecasts do not seem conservative. Iwata is simply rationalising those overoptimistic forecasts.

As for the general idea of leading people towards complementing their mobile gaming with traditional games, sure it's not impossible. Just as getting consumers en masse to buy digital cameras, or rent physical videos or buy books at Borders is not technically impossible. It's just highly improbable to the point that it's not particularly worth contemplating.

The proposed behaviour is that people, or in this instance women, who currently have no want or need of a dedicated device, who currently gain interactive entertainment through vehicles they already have that outperforms those devices on dimensions of value they care for while being essentially free, will go out and purchase at considerable cost said dedicated devices.

It's a niche product category now, it will be an increasingly niche product category going forward as substitution continues.

Just so you know, since this is a late reply, I agree with most of what you've said. However, I don't think Iwata is saying their handhelds will grow back to previous levels, just that there's still (slight) room for growth compared to the current situation. Not previous ones. They'll never get back to DS levels, but I don't think the 3DS successor will necessarily do worse than the 3DS. They can hit a plateau sure, and do worse, but there's also the (small) possibility to sell a little more.

I think his point is - is there an untapped female audience Nintendo is missing out on, or is there a tapped female audience who are simply somewhere else. Untapped suggests under-servered or unserved. I don't think that's the case for gaming. I think Nintendo just lost that audience.

Yeah, there's not really an unserved audience anymore (for what they did/are trying to do anyway) since mobile gaming become as popular as it is now, but what's the point of continuing a business if you never try to win back consumers you've lost in the past?

You can find Famitsu Top 500 2013 on my Photobucket. If someone wants to start translating will be fine. Remember that the Top 100 is already translated here, so should be from position 101.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=759941

I'm not posting the pics here since Road said could be banneable. But you can acces to my photobucket easly since I have a lot of other pictures in the thread.

Edit:

You're welcome.
There was only a top 50 for used sales. So I ignored and didn't copy that (since we have Top 500 used games for MC).
I thought just Top 50 wasn't enough data.

Edit2: if some pictures aren't clear enough, I will update again later.

Tx. Niro.........T_T Actually how do we even read the chart here.T_T Is it showing it is slowing down rather than doing better?

I guess the Casino event is not that good and people are more or less preparing for upcoming Tower Event which i believe is going to be another huge upswing too.

For Hortensia, is that normal to see it goes down? Or it is doing badly there?

Shironeko is having huge event right now which is probably the biggest reason why it is taking that position here.^_^ Everyone want that Shokotan character lol.^_^

I believe the charts showing how much people are spending in the game.

Our current event isn't very gacha dependent while that spike at around April 26th-ish was when the new demon raid gacha started and everyone was pulling and spending for the new unit.

Just the usual up and down swings of mobile games that are very event dependent.

Keep in mind that these games have revenue tied to events, so as each game has events, they'll jostle around a lot on the charts.

If everyone is in other games due to their events, something that isn't running a successful event at the time will be lower.

Easy way to tell if a major game is running an event is to check up on news postings on Famitsu App. Seems like only the games that can afford the PR get articles there.
http://app.famitsu.com

Events are helpful as a way to track download milestones since companies like to run events to celebrate big milestones. For example GungHo runs events for every X00万 downloads, but a year or two ago they were literally unable to fire events fast enough to keep up with milestones while today you might be lucky to see one every few months.

Yeah. CC Jp current event is not really nice for gacha. At least it is helpful for us who wanted to finish book 2 faster lol. Hope the upcoming mana mining and of course tower event will be a good time to gacha again.^_^

Keep in mind that these games have revenue tied to events, so as each game has events, they'll jostle around a lot on the charts.

If everyone is in other games due to their events, something that isn't running a successful event at the time will be lower.

Actually, this is one of the biggest problem I feel from stamina driven game. There is only so much attention and focus a single player can give. For example, now I only played CC jp and Hortensia Saga. I have more or less abandon Shironeko and CC global as I am unable to keep up with all the stamina bar keep chasing me like crazy.

Actually, this also open up my own problem with Sega or other company on the what is the best period is to launch ur big event. Sega is the biggest offender in my eyes here. They released a new game(Hortensia Saga) in the middle of Demon Raid event for CC which I feel is one of the most idiot move which end up causing CC to take the spotlight off their new coming game.

I don't get it. More pts = better right? FWIW your post seems to bear some kind of negative connotation though it may very well be the opposite.

Yeah, sub 100K first week by MC.

02./00. [WIU] Super Mario 3D World <ACT> (Nintendo) {2013.11.21} (¥5.985) - 99.588 / NEW <57,17%>

Splatoon launch should be at least solid/good for a new IP on a failing console in a depressed console market... Or all things considered/given the circumstances. I think now the dscussion will be about its legs: will it be able to pass the 200K supposed shipment. There's a good chance in my mind.

I'm betting on a 1M+ ltd (worldwide). Bikoze.
