Final Fantasy XII (PS2) is still a gorgeous game

Yep, mind blowing graphics, I couldn't believe my PS2 could run that. Something similar happened when I saw GTAV running on PS3.

The HD remaster is going to be amazing.

It looked very, very impressive. I played it before Oblivion, and the final boss in FFXII impressed me more than anything in that game.

Very impressed in general where they are going with FFXV. The game already looks stunning, and the effects are insane. Feels like it might be in a similar line of epic like FFXII.

FFX looks amazing on PS4. A FFXII HD remake would look fantastic too. I wonder if the more open world nature of it though would make it more .... " difficult " to do the remake for SE.

I hope they do it eventually though.

My favourite FF. Amazing game.

Run the game on pcsx2 at 1920x1080, it's amazing how good it looks. They Just have to up the res and improve some textures here and there.

HD version for PS4 please.

Never got past the first few hours on PS2 - it was a late gen release and my interest was on to HD games at the time.

Hopefully FFXV nails the tone, voice acting, and overall cinematic presentation of FFXII if not goes above and beyond it.

I just hope they make Noctis' and the other characters of FFXV more interesting than the ones in FFXII, but that shouldn't be too hard.

Now if only companies could try to understand that games like this can generate sales. Although I do love how FFXV is turning out I believe, in my opinion, that you don't have to have graphics like FFXV to sell a great game. I believe that they could create a game with the graphic level of FFXII at 1080p 60fps with a solid gameplay mechanic and a great story. Triple A games are not helping developers anymore and I really think if this trend continues more companies are gonna close down or move to mobile. That just my opinion :p
Look, I play FFX (PS4) and still think it looks great. Granted they made all types of graphical improvements to the game it still is fundamentally a PS2 game. I would buy games at that graphical level. I nitpick minor graphics shit in games all the time, but at the end of the day if the game good I'll buy it and so will my friends.

An HD remake wouldn't fix the combat though... Seriously, most bosses were press button for awesome, repeat til boss is dead.

The combat doesn't need fixing. The system does exactly what it's intended to do, and it's fun. Maybe not for everyone (I've heard reasons, but my brain hasn't accepted them), but it's fun for allot of people.

FFXII's biggest issue is that it takes a while to get started. 20 hours, by my count, which is a hefty investment. I ended up putting a 150 in total though, and I don't regret it.

We're 4 pages in and still no angsty "don't butcher the music" posts?

What universe is this again?

One thing i dont understand is when FFXII turned to be so loved and acclaimed?

I remember back in time, that most commentary was "gambit system? More like watch the game playing by itself" "gambit system is going to destroy the fun of the game" and somthing like that.

It's because FFXIII turned to be so much worse? lol.

I really like FFXII but back then the game was bashed really hard.

I think most FF fans just didn't give it a proper chance back then because it was so different. Then when they later played it again with a more open mind they liked it more.

I hated it until I figured out how the gambit system worked and realized it saved me from a lot of tedious tasks I could just use gambits to let the other team members perform. The combat in FF XIII wasn't really the problem with the game, FWIW.

I hated everything about the game when it first came out. I gave it a year's rest and I loved it afterwards. It was weird. The story still sucks monkey ass though.

I was blown away when I booted up FFXII on my PS2. It's just a shame that I never had a chance to try out the Zodiac Edition because of the region locking.

I was already mentally in the next gen when this game came out so I didn't give it the fair shake that I should have.

I don't think I'm alone in that boat so I'd be really surprised if a remaster wasn't coming at some point since it's the only traditional final fantasy that can't be played on a modern system, console or portable.

I hope we get a remaster soon with some slightly upgraded poly counts. You can tell they had to sacrifice a lot of the character model density in order for the more open structure of the game.

FFXII is one of the weaker entries in the series for sure. But, it atleast opened the world up a bit. I thought the random loot system and the gambit system were pretty awesome. Liked how you unlocked new and even more useful gambits as the game went along as well as super rare gambits. Building the perfect AI system out of the looted choices was pretty genius for this type of combat system.

The story, yeah, was pretty crap with little meaningful character development or really even good characters overall.

I honestly find the visuals more appealing than 13 or 15.

Yup, this and the Versus XIII stuff (from before the 2013 trailer when it became XV) are the prettiest FF games. Too bad we only got one of those two.
I was amazed at XV when they showed Lestallum, and then I went to play XII for a bit and remembered that Rabanastre looked just as good.

Anyway, the XII remaster is happening people, don't worry about it (that shit was confirmed the moment FFXHD outsold LR). I do wonder if they have the voice acting recorded at a higher quality though, because otherwise, they'd probably have to re-record stuff =P

I hope that Sakimoto gets to make a remastered soundtrack too.

Couldnt get into it personally because of the combat and visuals (it looks great but waay to serious for me, where is the colorful charm of the other more colorful ones?). And yeah the visuals of the combat, jeez that font lol. Anyway, i hope they do a remaster though.. I should give it another chance... I played maybe 2 hours on this one

It seems like this would be the easiest PS2 game in the world to remaster. It's like it was designed with that in mind.

I hated it until I figured out how the gambit system worked and realized it saved me from a lot of tedious tasks I could just use gambits to let the other team members perform. The combat in FF XIII wasn't really the problem with the game, FWIW.

If anything, the combat in FFXIII was its biggest redeeming feature.

The universe where KH2 music was for the most part improved in the HD release, don't you tell me that old pirates theme was anything good. I want this game HDed, only so I can use Fran as an excuse to post in those Cidney threads :/

We will have another Cidney thread falk, and it will be in a discussion thread about gameplay mechanics.

I didn't know this Japanese re-release even existed and I must have it. I hated the license system because everyone could be everything. Knowing Japan got a revised version that makes a whole lot more sense makes me want to go at the game again.

I'm not sure how I feel about that zodiac system. Not being able to change a characters job is interesting. At that point they should have just locked characters to a specific job.

An option between original and Job System would be nice. I'd personally try the job system but options are nice.

It's the closest thing we had to a Vagrant Story-looking game on PS2. It was beautiful and still is. Would love to see a remaster. One of the best FF games ever. Probably my favorite if I'm being honest.

It was an amazing game at launch and has held up really well, I can't wait for the HD version. It makes XIII look pathetic IMO.

One of my top 3 FF games, maybe even my favourite.

To be fair a lot of FF bosses are like that. They're mostly "Attack until it's dead" or "Keep casting this spell to exploit a weakness".

When you go into optional bosses is usually when the battle systems shine (or plummet).

I don't think this will get a remaster. It's like a black sheep in the series.

I don't know. FFXIII is probably the black sheep since it's the least popular. At least of the more recent entries. And I won't be surprised if we hear of the XIII Trilogy being remastered soon.

It's what happens when you let Matsuno, Yoshida and Sakimoto loose in a studio with a budget.

And Ito, don't forget Ito. It's his last game before they sent him to scrub toilets or whatever the fuck it is they are having him do since then.
