Ultra Street Fighter IV on PS4 is much, much better now. Bless.

Outside of what has been said...played about 10 matches. The game just feels off. Frame delay super obvious in 2 bar matches, around 5-9 frames. Feels slower online compared to PC/360. It's still running at 60, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what's going on. Can feel it, can't explain it.

Crazy black outline around every character, very obvious if you look. Some stages colors are super off, super saturated.

Matchmaking is like early PC, most connection pings are blank.

Gaffer impressions:

In this thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=165280650

And of course in the thread you're in right now. thelastword has made a pretty detailed impressions post:

It's a truly bad port, got home and I've been testing this out.

Visuals

This is the blurriest 1080p game I've seen with no AA, I even increased brightness to max in-game and it's still blurry. The game does not look 1080p sharp at all. I'm thinking it's the inexistent texture filtering, and yes, it's awful.

NO AA and NO AF is a travesty in this 6+ year old game, every stage especially training stage looks like a soupy mess.

In training Stage doing trials, Dan's Avatar is borked, his pink costume seems smeared way beyond his shoulder/face in the top right, similar to guile's fireball glitch, where you see guile stretching past his grounded position and you see his reflection booming away in his own projectile.

Sound

They need to fix the high/lows in the game, playing a game online the game audio seems much lower than offline arcade mode audio. After you play a game online sound gets much louder going back to arcade mode, it's not balanced right.

They should allow me an option to hear the announcer declare the title screen on my tv speakers instead of my DS4.

Lag

The menu lag is awful, it loads and slides super slow both offline and online, it's especially distracting online, because you get the feeling that's how the match is going to run, and sadly most times this is how it runs online, as molasses as the menus. Nothing below a green bar is smooth so far.

I noticed there maybe some input lag when I tried Zangief's 17th trial, it requires perfect timing and there seems to be a slight delay from going from a crouching normal to chaining a few standing jabs, it seems off compared to all other versions I've tried. It's hard to time it here. I hope it's not me trying to adjust to the DS4 pad.

Doing other trials and playing arcade mode seems fine for the most part, I can pull of most combos just fine, but something feels amiss still.

Suggestions

Having said all that, I think the issues here can be fixed in short order. Just add 16xAF and some AA (8xAA at least) and that takes care of most of the visual issues. Fix the glitches with fireballs and avatars. Fix the sound level issues and you have a good start to correcting this mess as it is. I've not noticed the name duplicating issue or text issue that some have had however.

After they've done that they can move on to sorting out the issues with Evil Ryu missing an Fadc or the game glitching in trial mode etc. It's really a sad state of affairs but I'm thinking they should fix the most glaring issues over the next few days and sort out the rest in the next two to three weeks. Who knows what is causing some of these issues maybe it's the driver from Lab Zero which may have some incompatibility issues, but they better source it and kill it right away.

The biggest problem I see these guys having is sorting out the matchmaking and quality of online bars. I just searched for a ranked game online and it came up with one yellow connection and all the rest were greyed out, meaning not even a red beyond that, so it doesn't seem to be working quite well as of now.

It's really a shame that we keep getting products that have so many glaring and simple issues that could be avoided by a more competent dev, the decision to hire these guys was just a bad decision. I truly hope this is the last nail that drives publishers away from outsourcing their product for a cheap conversion, there's just too much headache in the aftermath. I'm also sure that the money they did not want to spend initially, will have to be used to fix this port. For Heavens's sake use QLOC, Nixxes, Hexadrive or Bluepoint. Nobody elese is worth your time.

Edit 1: It seems like some moves (or at least one move so far) are slower/have less range:

Edit 2:

The start-up screen still says "Press Start" as if the Dualshock 4 still has a start button... They couldn't even notice THAT?

Edit 3: Oh dear sweet Jesus Lord:

Haha I don't know what the fuck happened here. I had to restart the game because it wouldn't stop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3_uTlgodXE Go easy on me, total noob at SF4 and uploading to YT.

To summarize the complaints that are popping up:

-The online doesn't seems to be running great. Frame delay issues

-A lot of people are reporting that the game feels "off" but are having a hard time placing it, since the framerate seems to be holding up. Some are saying it feels slower than the other versions for some reason. Others are reporting input delay.

-The game seems to be running a bit slower than other versions

-The menus are all super choppy.

-The visuals are messed up in some cases. Weird outlines around the characters, super high saturation.

-Blurry textures

-Lots of sound bugs/missing sound effects

-Seriously, the fucking sound bugs

-Special moves causing graphical glitches, turning invisible, etc.

-No Anti-Aliasing

-No Anisotropic Filtering (but we all expected that one, didn't we?)

-When you're in an online match your username is displayed for both players' name, or names are displayed incorrectly

-Decapre's teleports have shorter range and are slower for no apparent reason (confirmed). Other moves may be different too. (unconfirmed)

Yet another game to get released half-baked. And it's just a basic port. I'm sure we're all getting really tired of this. Curious what will happen in terms of EVO, I doubt people would want to play on a botched port.

Sounds like a weak port. Should really, really have let it bake in the oven a bit. PC cross play addition would have been beautiful too.

I hope it gets fixed via patches.

Until someone sits down and does actual input lag tests, I'm chalking a lot of stuff up to placebo ... especially if they're playing online. Netcode is always going to be a wildly variable thing.

Nah I'm hearing it's pretty bad. It seems Capcom outsourced the a dev with a not so good track record.

Third Party Productions right?
yeah I didn't really like the sound of this company porting street fighter 4 to the ps4
so is this like ps3 bayonetta all over again?

That's unfortunate.
Will buy when a patched version of the game launches for real. Clearly that isn't today.

We still got less then a month for another patch people!!

dont be scared, dont be scared! lol

i got home alittle more then hour hour ago. i hope its not a wide spread issue

Gah, annoys me that I dropped £19.99 on this. The menu's are incredibly slow to the point I don't even understand how this got past QA. Rest of the game seems relatively fine to me. I don't see the over saturation at all. The colours pop, and I'm not noticing any frame delay. Certainly not anything ranging between 5-9, but I only messed around in training mode.

I've got Witcher 3 to play tonight. Will play properly tomorrow to assess properly. The people saying it feels 'off' but can't quite place it seems like placebo to me, based on the menu's just being slow. Let's dial it back before we start claiming shoddy port.

Sad to know. At least there's some hope, since this was decided to become the official version for Evo, some fixes for this stuff could come our way quick.

How the heck do you mess up the PS4 port of a game that has been out for YEARS.

HOW. I'll still wait for a full analysis to see what it's like, but that menu stuff... not encouraging.

And the patch era continues...

I was going back and forth on picking this up, but looks like I'll hold off until I hear the situation's better.

HOW.

Capcom ruined their own netcode when they took out GFWL from the PC version (netcode that was actually pretty good and was around for years), so this doesn't surprise me. I don't know if they outsourced the PC version as well.

I do wish we had more concrete details on some of the issues. Especially this whole "feels off" business.

I don't think so. Sony and Capcom is partnered for Capcom Pro Tour. I would say all the major events will probably have to use the PS4 version.

Nah, I doubt they're going to fuck over the FGC if the port is shit. Could you imagine all the complaints?

Wow, I would have thought this would be an easy port. Almost bought it on the web store earlier so it'd be there when I got home, glad I didn't.

I thought Sony was doing the port?

Other Ocean Games did the port.

They did that super sloppy Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection for PSN and XBLA last gen so I was expecting issues but MAYBE Sony and Capcom would have pushed for a better port from them since this was going to be a big EVO thing. I was wrong.

They don't even have a wiki page.

Their quality work is listed on giant bombs wiki.

I thought it was just funding the port, a la RE: Revalations 2 Vita.

Sort of a shame considering this is supposed to be the EVO version and it doesn't even come completely ready day 1 judging by these impressions

Glad I'm at work so I couldn't buy it right away. Will be staying far away til some patches come out and fixes it.
